Mountcastle (illness) will serve as Baltimore's designated hitter and bat fourth Wednesday against the Mariners, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: After missing two games while fighting off an illness, Mountcastle will now return to the starting nine against Logan Gilbert and the M's. Mountcastle had gone 4-for-17 with an RBI and a run scored in his last five games before getting sick. Rotowire.com Today, 3:31 pm
    • Idle Wednesday
Canha isn't in the Tigers' lineup Wednesday against the Twins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Canha will get a day to regroup Wednesday after going 0-for-22 in his last six games. His absence will move Gio Urshela to first base while Matt Vierling (foot) covers third, opening up a spot in left field for Akil Baddoo. Rotowire.com Today, 3:17 pm

    • Still out of lineup Wednesday
Garver (wrist) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

    • Tigers recall Keider Montero to start on Wednesday
Tigers recalled RHP Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: The 23-year-old right-hander will take the place of the injured Casey Mize (hamstring) in the team’s rotation. He’ll start on Wednesday night against the Twins. Montero has already made two appearances with the Tigers this season, registering a 9.35 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and an 11/4 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings. He shouldn’t be considered as a streaming option on Wednesday night against the high-powered Twins’ offense. Rotoworld Today, 3:07 pm
    • Tigers place Casey Mize (hamstring) on 15-day IL
Tigers placed RHP Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 1, with a left hamstring strain.

Advice: Mize suffered the injury during Friday’s start against the Angels. The Tigers are hopeful that he’ll require only a minimum stint on the injured list before he’s ready to return. Keider Montero was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take Mize’s spot in the Tigers’ rotation and he’ll start on Wednesday evening against the Twins. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

    • Shut down from throwing
Almonte will be shut down from throwing after receiving a second opinion on his right shoulder strain Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Manager Craig Counsell noted Wednesday that Almonte "didn't get great news" during his second opinion, and the right-hander will decide whether to resume rehab through a strengthening program or undergo surgery for his strained right shoulder, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports. Before landing on the injured list in May, Almonte registered six holds and one save over 17 outings with a 3.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB across 15.2 innings. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 27, and the 30-year-old could be on the shelf for the rest of the season if he opts for surgery. Rotowire.com Today, 3:03 pm
