    • Helsley barely avoids game-tying homer in save
      Ryan Helsley worked a flawless ninth for his 29th save Friday against the Reds.

      Advice: Helsley very nearly surrendered a game-tying homer to Stuart Fairchild with two outs in the ninth, but Brendan Donovan made a jumping catch at the wall. Statcast said it would have been a homer in 14 of the 30 parks. This was a very quick outing for Helsley — he threw just six pitches — so even though he’s worked four out of six days, there’s a good chance he’ll be available Saturday.     • Extends saves lead
      Helsley struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Reds on Friday.

      Advice: Helsley had about as efficient of an outing as possible, needing only six pitches to close out the 1-0 game. It was his 29th save in 30 tries this season, and he lowered his June ERA to 3.00 through 12 appearances. Helsley leads all of baseball in saves and no one else has more than 25.     • Jackson Merrill homers in nine-run fifth inning
      Jackson Merrill hit a three-run homer to camp a nine-run fifth as the Padres bested the Red Sox 9-2 on Friday.

      Advice: The Padres were held scoreless until the fifth, when the first nine batters totaled nine runs on eight hits and one walk against Nick Pivetta and Greg Weissert. Merrill concluded the rally with the second homer of the inning. After that, the Padres put their bats back to bed, coming up with just one hit off Chase Anderson in the final four innings. Merrill’s homer was his 11th in 82 games. His current .282/.318/.439 line is a near match for the .277/.326/.444 he came in at least year, only that was compiled in high-A and Double-A.       Michael Harris II (hamstring) has been throwing and taking swings but has yet to be cleared to resume running.

      Advice: The dynamic 23-year-old outfielder is making progress in his recovery from a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, but it’s hard to put a clear timetable on a potential return to the Braves’ lineup until he starts running again.       Correa (wrist) is playing shortstop and batting second Friday against Seattle.

    • Carlos Correa back in lineup on Friday vs. M’s
      Carlos Correa (wrist) is in the lineup for Friday night’s series opener against the Mariners.

      Advice: The 29-year-old shortstop was drilled in the right wrist by a fastball during Thursday’s game against the Diamondbacks. Correa told reporters afterwards that he was fine though and that he planned to play on Friday, and true to his word he’s in the lineup and batting second against Logan Gilbert and the M’s on Friday evening in Seattle.       Harris (hamstring) has not yet been cleared to begin a running program, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Harris is two weeks removed from suffering a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, and while he's feeling better, it's not yet to the point where he's able to do any running. With just over two weeks until the All-Star break, it's possible Atlanta will hold Harris out until the start of the second half. Jarred Kelenic has been handling center field with Harris out.     • India stays red hot with two-hit game Thursday
      Jonathan India went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and an RBI against the Cardinals on Thursday.



      Advice: India started the game with a single and scored on Elly De La Cruz’s RBI triple. In the second inning, he had an RBI double to give the Reds a 2-0 lead. India is now on a nine-game hitting streak and he’s 17-for-33 (.515) in that stretch. In June, he’s 30-for-80 (.375) with 18 runs scored and 14 RBI in 24 games. India’s average is up to .272 on the season with a .771 OPS and 32 RBI.

    • Garcia hits RBI triple in win over Guardians
      Maikel Garcia went 1-for-4 with a run scored, a triple, and an RBI against the Guardians on Thursday.

      Advice: Garcia tied the game at one with an RBI triple in the sixth inning and came around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Vinnie Pasquantino. Those were the only runs the Royals scored on the night, but it was enough to squeak out a 2-1 victory. Garcia needs to have more of an impact if he’s going to retain his spot atop the Kansas City lineup for the rest of the season. He’s hitting .232 with a .629 OPS on the season.
