    • Remains at DH
Smith started at designated hitter and 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Mets.

Advice: Smith returned from a hamstring injury Tuesday but has been limited to DH duties in both games. The bat, however, still makes an impact. In the bottom of the sixth inning, he doubled in a run then scored a game-tying run. Smith is 3-for-7 with a home run, a double, four RBI and an additional run scored in the two games at DH. • Sharp in first rehab start
Kershaw (shoulder) completed three innings in a rehab start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

Advice: Kershaw impressed in his first game action since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, throwing 26 of his 36 pitches for strikes and hitting 90 mph -- right around his regular-season velocity -- on his fastball. The veteran left-hander began a bit shakily in giving up a one-out first-inning triple that was cashed in on a sacrifice fly, but Kershaw was in complete control thereafter, with his only walk coming on a pitch-clock violation that appeared to be intentional in order to allow him to face another batter. Kershaw is expected to log multiple additional rehab outings before potentially joining Los Angeles' rotation sometime around mid-July. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:17 pm

    • Clayton Kershaw goes three in first rehab start
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) went three innings in his first minor league rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday night.

Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw threw 36 pitches on the night — 26 of them for strikes — while hitting 90 mph on his fastball. Kershaw surrendered one run on two hits and a walk while punching out five in the ballgame. He’ll continue to work every fifth day or so in the minor leagues to build up his stamina with a goal of rejoining the Dodgers’ rotation at some point around the All-Star break. • Aiming for Saturday return
Arenado (elbow) said after Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins that he expects to return to the lineup Saturday versus the Giants in St. Louis, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Arenado was lifted for a pinch runner in the top of the eighth inning after he took a 94 mile-per-hour sinker to his right elbow in his fourth plate appearance of the afternoon. Before departing, Arenado went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored. Though Arenado has been diagnosed with a bruised right elbow after initial X-rays returned negative, he noted that the pitch hit him in a nerve in the elbow that caused his hand to cramp up. Based on his postgame comments, Arenado already seems to be ruling himself out for Thursday's series opener with the Giants at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala., but he's counting on being ready to go coming out of Friday's off day. • Goes yard twice in loss
Harper went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Padres.

Advice: The 31-year-old slugger supplied all the Phillies' offense on the afternoon, taking Matt Waldron deep in the third inning before pulling a Jeremiah Estrada splitter down the right-field line in the eighth. Harper has caught fire in June, hitting safely in 10 of the last 11 games while batting .372 (16-for-43). The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .285/.391/.539 with 17 homers, four steals, 45 runs and 48 RBI in 69 contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:07 pm

    • Nolan Arenado (elbow) hopes to return on Saturday
Nolan Arenado (elbow) is hopeful that he’ll be able to return to action on Saturday.

Advice: That means that he won’t play on Thursday for sure, while Saturday is still up in the air depending on how the next couple of days go. Arenado was clipped by a pitch on Wednesday that hit a nerve in his elbow, which caused his hand to cramp up. When he’s able to return will depend on when he regains full feeling in that hand. • Nursing moderate oblique strain
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Dominguez is dealing with a moderate left oblique strain, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Dominguez was injured on a check swing Saturday while playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees haven't yet established a timeline for Dominguez's return to game action, but it wouldn't be a surprise if a moderate oblique strain resulted in at least a month-long absence. Dominguez began the season on the Yankees' 60-day injured list as he continued his recovery from Tommy John surgery. He's hit .389/.405/.639 with two home runs in nine games during his time with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:23 pm

    • Dominguez dealing with moderate oblique strain
Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Wednesday that Jasson Dominguez is dealing with a moderate oblique strain.

Advice: While Boone didn’t give any sort of timeline for the top prospect’s return, expect that it’ll be longer than just a couple of weeks. It’s unfortunate, as the dynamic 21-year-old outfielder was crushing it at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and had been on the cusp of breaking through to the big leagues once again. • X-rays negative on Nolan Arenado’s elbow
X-rays came back negative on Nolan Arenado’s right elbow after he was hit by a pitch Wednesday.

Advice: Arenado said the ball hit a nerve and left him with numbness in his fingers, but it looks like he’ll be OK. If he can’t play Thursday, then José Fermín could get the start at third. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:52 pm
