      Advice: Mize served up a two-run homer to Bryan De La Cruz in the opening frame, which wound up being enough to saddle him with a loss in this one as Detroit’s offense was shut out by Trevor Rogers and a quartet of Miami relievers. He struck out six and only handed out one free pass. The 27-year-old former top prospect will bring a strong 3.50 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 32/10 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a favorable road matchup on Tuesday against the Royals.       Advice: Thomas is running again for the first time since being diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee three weeks ago. Zuckerman notes that Thomas wasn't running at full effort but seemed to be moving at close to 100 percent speed. Running the bases is typically one of the last steps a player coming back from a knee injury takes before embarking on a rehab assignment, though it's not yet clear when Thomas might report to a minor-league affiliate for game action.       McArthur allowed a run on two hits and struck out three without walking a batter over 1.1 innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mariners.

      Advice: McArthur gave up a solo home run to Mitch Haniger in the ninth inning, but he was able to avoid any further damage. The right-hander has surrendered seven runs (six earned) over his last five appearances, and he's been tagged for four homers in that span. He's managed to convert saves in each of his last two outings despite the long balls. McArthur is 10-for-13 in save chances this year while adding a 4.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 21:3 K:BB through 19.2 innings.
