    • Assad allows five in loss to Reds Thursday
Javier Assad allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Reds on Thursday.

Advice: Assad gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out seven. He was replaced by Luke Little in a 4-4 game in the sixth inning and the run that scored on TJ Friedl’s RBI double was charged to Assad. The five earned runs were the most allowed in any start by Assad this year. His ERA is now 2.74, but his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.98. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rays on the road next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:47 pm

    • George Springer is back to 5th in Blue Jays lineup
George Springer is moving back up the Blue Jays lineup, starting in right field and batting 5th against the Orioles on Thursday.

Advice: Springer started the season as the lead-off hitter and was moved down as far as eighth in the order as he struggled to start the year. The veteran is now 11-for-40 (.275) over his last 12 games with two home runs, five RBI, and ten runs scored. There were no major red flags in his profile at the start of the season, so it seems likely that Springer can work his way back up to the top of the lineup. At 34 years old, he may be in the downward stage of his career, but he should retain enough value to be rostered in all formats. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:47 am
    • Next outing coming Friday
Allen is listed as the Guardians' probable pitcher for Friday's game against the Marlins in Miami.

Advice: Allen had been in line to work as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen behind opener Nick Sandlin in Wednesday's game against the Royals, but that contest was ultimately postponed due to inclement weather. Rather than pushing Allen's next outing back a day to Thursday's series finale, Tanner Bibee will stay on turn in the rotation and start against Kansas City. Allen is thus set to take the hill for the series opener in Miami, and barring a late change from manager Stephen Vogt, the southpaw looks poised to handle a traditional starting role rather than working behind an opener. • Guardians-Royals postponed
Allen and the Guardians won't play the Royals on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland.

Advice: The Royals and Guardians will make up the postponed game as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 26. Allen had been expected to work behind opening pitcher Nick Sandlin on Wednesday, but it's unclear if he'll be pushed back a day to pitch in some capacity in Thursday's series finale with Kansas City, or if his turn through the rotation will be skipped entirely. • Gerrit Cole’s rehab assignment to continue
Gerrit Cole will require “at least a couple of more” rehab starts before coming off the injured list, according to manager Aaron Boone.

Advice: This was a given, but we’ll run with it anyway. Cole threw 45 pitches in 3 1/3 scoreless innings for Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. He should come in closer to 60 pitches next time out. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:59 pm

    • Exits starting nine
Marte is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Giants.

Advice: Marte had started each of the previous 18 contests for the Diamondbacks but will receive some rest during Wednesday's afternoon tilt. Blaze Alexander will cover second base for Marte. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:15 am
    • Belts fifth homer
Springer went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Orioles.

Advice: He supplied the Blue Jays' only offense in a 10-1 rout by taking Corbin Burnes deep in the seventh inning. Springer appears to be turning things around after his rough start to the season -- he's hit safely in seven of the last eight games, batting .385 (10-for-26) with two of his five homers on the year and an impressive 7:1 BB:K. • On base four times in win
Marte went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Giants.

Advice: Marte notched three hits for the second time over his last three games and for the seventh time this season. He now has at least a hit in five of his last six games and boasts a 4:3 BB:K over that span as well. For the year, the 30-year-old is slashing .278/.337/.502 with 12 homers, 32 RBI, 40 runs and a 21:51 BB:K in 270 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:59 am
    • Excels in first rehab start
Cole (elbow) completed 3.1 scoreless innings in a minor-league rehab start with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday, allowing two hits and striking out five batters.

Advice: In the first of what is expected to be multiple rehab outings, Cole threw 45 pitches and hit 97 miles per hour on the radar gun, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. The veteran hurler surrendered a single to the first batter he faced but yielded just one more hit over the remainder of his outing. The beginning of Cole's rehab stint couldn't have gone much better, but he's still expected to need at least a couple more appearances in the minors before he's ready to join the Yankees rotation. If he doesn't experience any setbacks, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner could make his season debut for the big club in the latter half of June. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:28 pm
