• Astros option Corey Julks to Triple-A
Astros optioned OF Corey Julks to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: It seemed like Julks had the inside track to a spot on Houston’s season-opening roster, but has been jettisoned to the minors instead. The 28-year-old outfielder figures to get another shot in the big leagues whenever an opportunity arises due to injury or ineffectiveness. Rotoworld Today, 3:20 am

  • Could yield to Berti at third base
Yankees manager Aaron Boone isn't yet certain whether Cabrera or newly acquired Jon Berti will start at third base on Opening Day, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Advice: With DJ LeMahieu (foot) beginning the season on the IL and Oswaldo Peraza set to miss several weeks due to a shoulder injury, Cabrera didn't appear to have much competition for the role of the Yankees' primary third baseman to begin the campaign. That changed Wednesday, however, when New York acquired Jon Berti in a three-team trade involving the Marlins and Rays. Though there's still a chance Cabrera could start on Opening Day, it's almost certain that he'll yield substantial time at the hot corner to the more-experienced Berti, who racked up a career-high 424 plate appearances last season and hit .294 while compiling 53 runs and 16 stolen bases. By contrast, Cabrera struggled over 330 plate appearances, slashing just .211/.275/.299 with five homers, 29 RBI, 35 runs and eight thefts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:44 pm

  • Mets option J.D. Martinez to Triple-A Syracuse
Mets optioned DH J.D. Martinez to Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: It’s pretty wild that Martinez still has minor-league options left entering his age-36 season. As expected, the veteran slugger will head to the minors for at least a couple days to ramp up in advance of his Mets debut with the expectation that he’ll be ready to roll in early April. • Cubs option Alexander Canario to Triple-A
Cubs optioned OF Alexander Canario to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Canario was optioned to the minors earlier this week. The 23-year-old prospect stuck around until the end of camp competing for a bench spot with the Cubs, but will get some extra seasoning back in the upper minors instead. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:44 pm
  • Giants option Blake Sabol to Triple-A
Giants optioned C/OF Blake Sabol to Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Sabol was shipped out earlier this week in advance of Opening Day. The 26-year-old offers plenty of defensive versatility, but there simply isn’t space for him in San Francisco at the moment. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:22 pm

  • Yankees announce trade for INF/OF Jon Berti
Yankees acquired INF/OF Jon Berti from the Marlins as part of a three-team deal.

Advice: The complex swap, which also includes catcher Ben Rortvedt going to the division-rival Rays and prospect John Cruz going to the Marlins, is now official. The versatile 34-year-old speedster provides New York with some quality extra bench depth and figures to serve as a decent stopgap option at the hot corner while DJ LeMahieu (foot) is sidelined. He offers enough stolen base upside to warrant a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues, but he’s not exactly going to morph into a five-category impact contributor. • Miguel Andujar undergoes knee surgery Thursday
Miguel Andujar underwent right knee surgery on Thursday.

Advice: Andujar will open the season on the injured list and is expected to miss at least 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. The 29-year-old will presumably be ready to make his Oakland debut at some point in May. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:04 pm

  • Undergoes surgery
Andujar underwent surgery on his right knee Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Andujar will return to Oakland later in the week to begin his rehab process. The 29-year-old outfielder suffered a torn meniscus during spring training and was given a return timeline of 4-to-6 weeks. Once healthy, he will likely claim a spot in Oakland's outfield unit. • Jackson Chourio to start in RF on Opening Day
Jackson Chourio will start in right field for Friday’s Opening Day matchup against the Mets.

Advice: Chourio will be in right field when Milwaukee kicks off the regular season on Friday at Citi Field against the Mets. The electrifying 20-year-old signed an eight-year, $82 million long-term deal with the Brewers during the offseason and projects as an immediate five-category impact fantasy contributor.
