    • Gerrit Cole allows two runs in four-plus innings
Gerrit Cole lasted for four-plus innings in his return to the Yankees on Wednesday against the Orioles. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed two earned runs in a loss.

Advice: Cole was not his sharpest, understandably, in this one. The Orioles are a tough matchup and they made lots of loud contact as Cole struggled with command, especially with his knuckle curve. The Yankees limited him to just 62 pitches in this one and he’ll have a chance to right the ship next week against the Mets. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

    • Josh Hader locks down 10th save Wednesday
Josh Hader tossed a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout to record the save against the White Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Hader was summoned to close out the game with a three-run lead in the ninth against the White Sox. He worked around a base hit, striking out one batter to end the game with his tenth save of the season. Rotoworld Today, 7:43 pm

    • Garrett Crochet strikes out eight in loss to Astros
Garrett Crochet allowed three runs with eight strikeouts across six innings in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: Crochet came into this one on a roll, not allowing more than two runs over each of his last nine starts. The Astros got to him for three on Wednesday, starting with three hits and a groundout to bring a run across in the third inning. A walk and two hits brought another run in to score in the fourth. After a scoreless fifth, Crochet allowed one more run in on a double and a base hit in the sixth. He still generated 19 whiffs to strike out eight batters. The 24-year-old left-hander will take a 3.25 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and a 124/20 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings into a start against the Dodgers in Chicago on Monday. Rotoworld Today, 7:41 pm

    • Kyle Finnegan slams door on Diamondbacks in ninth
Kyle Finnegan slammed the door on the Diamondbacks in the ninth inning on Wednesday, retiring all three hitters that he faced to preserve a two-run advantage.

Advice: Finnegan picked up his 21st save of the season for his efforts. The 32-year-old hurler made things look easy in this one, getting Joc Pederson on a ground ball to first and then striking out Eugenio Suarez and Gabriel Moreno to end it. While his job security was shaky heading into the season, Finnegan has been an absolute monster for fantasy managers this season, posting a 1.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and a 33/10 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings of work while converting 21 of his 23 save chances and chipping in two victories for good measure. • Activated ahead of start
The Yankees reinstated Cole (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Cole has been on the injured list all season due to nerve irritation in his right elbow, but he will now officially return to the Yankees' rotation and make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles. The 33-year-old righty was dominant during his three rehab starts, posting a minuscule 0.73 ERA while striking out 19 batters and walking none in 12.1 innings. However, he only built up to 68 pitches during his time in the minors, so he will likely be working under some sort of restriction during his return to a big-league mound. Anthony Rizzo (arm) was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room for Cole on the 40-man roster. Rotowire.com Today, 3:18 pm

    • Yankees activate Gerrit Cole for 2024 season debut
Yankees activated RHP Gerrit Cole from the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The 33-year-old hurler is finally ready to make his highly anticipated 2024 season debut against the Orioles on Wednesday. He looked fantastic in three minor league rehab starts, registering a 0.73 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and a 19/1 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings. As long as he’s healthy and on the mound, there’s little reason to expect anything other than vintage Gerrit Cole on Wednesday. Rotoworld Today, 3:16 pm

    • Collects 18th save
Suarez struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 18th save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Phillies.

Advice: One day after blowing his first save chance of the season, Suarez was back in his usual form, firing nine of 13 pitches for strikes as he shut down the Phillies' 6-7-8 hitters. The 33-year-old right-hander came into 2024 with only one career save, but he's having a breakout campaign as the Padres' closer, posting a 1.17 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 29:6 K:BB through 30.2 innings. • Taking seat Wednesday
Rafaela is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Rafaela will get his first day off since May 30, clearing the way for Romy Gonzalez to pick up a start in center field. Though he's cobbled together a modest .687 OPS for the season, Rafaela has been running hot of late at the dish, slashing .468/.490/.596 with four extra-base hits and two stolen bases over his last 12 games. • Robert Suarez quiets Phillies to collect 18th save
Robert Suarez fired a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Phillies to record his 18th save of the season.

Advice: Suarez got the call to protect a three-run margin in the ninth inning on Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia and needed just 13 pitches (nine strikes) to end the contest. He struck out Brandon Marsh to open the frame and got Edmundo Sosa to line out before coaxing a game-ending ground out from David Dahl. The 33-year-old righty has converted 17 of 18 save opportunities this season and boasts a microscopic 1.21 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 28/6 K/BB ratio across 29 2/3 innings (29 appearances).
