• Reaches thrice, homers
Biggio went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Thursday's win over Tampa Bay.

Advice: Biggio was excellent from the nine-slot Thursday, picking up his first long ball of the campaign in just his second at-bat. The 29-year-old has hit better than .235 just once in his five-year career and has seen fewer than 340 plate appearances in four straight campaigns, but he could have the opportunity to exceed both of those marks in 2024 if Thursday is any indication. • Hits leadoff home run
Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout during Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Twins.

Advice: Garcia's home run came on the third pitch he saw, leading off the bottom of the first with a blast over the left-field wall. His homer was the only blemish on Pablo Lopez's line as he shut the door on Garcia and the rest of the Royals lineup. The third basemen parlayed a strong spring into a leadoff role and begins the season with a long ball after hitting just four last season over 464 at-bats. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

  • Lone producer in Opening Day loss
Diaz went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI during Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: Diaz accounted for both of the Rays runs scored, going yard off Jose Berrios to lead off the first inning and driving in Rene Pinto on a sixth-inning double. After slashing .330/.410/.522 with a career-high 22 homers in 600 plate appearances during 2023, Diaz is well on his way to repeating -- if not exceeding -- those numbers in 2024. • Rafael Devers swats two-run homer in Opening Day win
Rafael Devers went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and a double to help the Red Sox to a win Thursday over the Mariners.

Advice: Devers got the scoring going with an opposite-field shot off Luis Castillo in the third that scored Emmanuel Valdez. The double also came off Castillo in a very strong opener for the star third baseman. It should be another banner year for one of the best third basemen in baseball, and he’s now just 81 hits away from 1,000 despite being just 27 years old until the end of October. • José Ramírez triples in blowout win over A’s
José Ramírez tripled and drove in a run during Thursday’s blowout win over the Athletics.

Advice: Ramírez plated Steven Kwan with his triple and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly from David Fry. That was the only hit in the game for the perennial MVP candidate, but if you’re only gonna get one knock, why not make it a triple? Expect plenty more big games for Ramírez throughout the 2024 season. Rotoworld Today, 9:48 pm

  • Out 3-to-4 weeks
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said that Senzel is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks after fracturing his right thumb in during batting practice prior to Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Reds, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Senzel was slated to start at third base and bat eighth in the season opener, but he was scratched from the lineup after suffering the injury when his throwing hand was struck by an errant groundball when one of his teammates was taking BP. Ildemaro Vargas drew the start at third base Thursday, but Vargas could end up moving back into a utility role while the Nationals give a longer look at prospect Trey Lipscomb at the hot corner during Senzel's upcoming absence. Andrew Golden of The Washington Post notes that Lipscomb is set to receive a call-up from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Saturday's game in Cincinnati, with Senzel presumably going on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. • Three-hit start to season
Burger went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Thursday's Opening Day loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Burger added a sacrifice fly that gave the Marlins a 5-2 lead in the fifth, but that was the last run Miami would score as the Pirates clawed back to steal the win. It was a good start to the season for Burger, who hit 34 home runs last season split between the Marlins and White Sox. Burger will man the everyday role at third base for the Marlins this season. • Opens in outfield
Steer started in left field and went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, two RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Nationals on Opening Day.

Advice: Steer was part of a productive lower-half of the order, which combined to go 8-for-19 and was responsible for all eight runs and RBI. He qualifies at multiple positions, but the offseason plan was to use him primarily in the outfield. Steer led the team in home runs (23) and RBI (86) last season while stealing a fantasy-helpful 15 bases. Rotowire.com Today, 7:27 pm

  • Smacks Opening Day homer
Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Thursday's 5-4 win over Houston.

Advice: Cabrera singled in the fifth inning before coming around to score when Anthony Rizzo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The 25-year-old Cabrera then tied the game 4-4 with a solo homer off Rafael Montero in the sixth, pulling a two-strike slider into the right field bleachers. The switch-hitting Cabrera hit just five home runs in 115 games last season while slashing .211/.275/.299. He figures to see an expanded role due to DJ LeMahieu (foot) being sidelined, though the newly acquired Jon Berti figures to be in the mix at third as well. Rotowire.com Today, 7:26 pm
