  • Josh Rojas clubs solo homer as M’s defeat Reds
    Josh Rojas came off the bench and swatted a solo home run on Wednesday, helping to power the Mariners past the visiting Reds.

    Advice: Rojas entered the game as a pinch-hitter for Luis Urias in the seventh inning and blasted a 362-foot (103.9 mph EV) solo shot off of Lucas Sims that increased the Mariners’ advantage to 3-1. He finished the day 1-for-2. While Urias — the short-side of the platoon at third base — has struggled mightily at the dish in the early going, Rojas is now slashing an impressive .343/.410/.486 with a homer and four RBI in his first 39 plate appearances.   • Elly De La Cruz homers again in loss to D’Backs
    Elly De La Cruz clobbered his fifth home run of the season on Wednesday, accounting for the entirety of the Reds’ offense in a loss to the Mariners.

    Advice: The dynamic 22-year-old victimized Mariners’ right-hander Bryce Miller for his 391-foot (103.8 mph EV) solo shot in the second inning to give the Reds an early 1-0 advantage. It would be short-lived. De La Cruz struck out in each of his other two plate appearances on the day, finishing the afternoon 1-for-3.     Pinch-hitter Josh Smith doubled in Ezequiel Duran in the top of the ninth as the Rangers edged the Tigers 5-4 on Wednesday.

    Advice: Martinez opened the season on the IL with what the Guardians listed as a right foot contusion, but he appears to have been diagnosed with the broken hand upon being lifted early in his third rehab game with Triple-A Columbus this past Saturday. As a result of the move to the 60-day IL, Martinez won't be eligible for activation until late May.
