• Soroka fades in 6th inning in no decision
Michael Soroka allowed two runs on four hits in five innings in a no-decision against the Twins.

Advice: Soroka had thrown five shutout innings and allowed just two hits but he gave up back-to-back solo home runs to start the sixth inning before getting lifted from the game. The bigger concern here is that Soroka failed to register a single whiff in this game. The Twins swung at 24 pitches and not once did they whiff. That’s a major concern. Pair that with his fastball falling 1.5 mph down to just 91.2 mph and it’s hard to recommend rostering him in most formats right now, even if he does get a date with these Twins again next week. • Goes four innings vs. Red Sox
McKenzie did not factor into the decision Thursday against Boston, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: McKenzie had to deal with traffic throughout Thursday's outing, though he was ultimately able to mitigate the damage thanks to a season-high seven strikeouts. He'd fail to qualify for a win, however, only making it through four innings after throwing 75 pitches, as Cleveland continues to monitor the 26-year-old's workload after he made just four starts in an injury-plagued 2023 campaign. Overall, McKenzie is 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 18:17 K:BB through four starts (22 innings) this season. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Astros in his next start Wednesday. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

  • Struggles in first start
Anderson (0-1) took the loss Thursday against the Guardians, allowing five runs on three hits and three walks over 1.2 innings. He didn't record a strikeout.

Advice: After working his way out of trouble in the first inning, Anderson allowed a solo home run to Will Brennan in the second before Jose Ramirez launched a grand slam with two outs in the frame. The 36-year-old Anderson opened the year in Boston's bullpen, though he was thrust back into the rotation with injuries to Brayan Bello (lat), Nick Pivetta (elbow) and Garrett Whitlock (oblique). While Thursday's outing certainly wasn't encouraging, the Red Sox may need Anderson to make at least one more start until other starters are healthy. He's currently slated for a home matchup Wednesday against the Giants. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

  • Framber Valdez to start Sunday in Mexico City
Framber Valdez (elbow) will start on Sunday against the Rockies in Mexico City.

Advice: Astros manager Joe Espada confirmed Thursday that Valdez will return this weekend after spending just over two weeks on the shelf with left elbow inflammation. The 30-year-old southpaw completed a 40-pitch bullpen session earlier this week and figures to have some workload limitations this weekend in Mexico City’s extremely hitter-friendly high-altitude environment. His return will provide Houston’s injury-depleted starting rotation with a significant lift, but he’s probably best left on the bench this weekend for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago

  • Max Scherzer (back) will make another rehab start
Max Scherzer (back) will make his next minor league rehab start on Tuesday for Double-A Frisco.

Advice: Scherzer threw 52 pitches (32 strikes) and allowed three runs over 2 1/3 innings on Wednesday in his first rehab outing for Triple-A Round Rock. It doesn’t come as a total shock that the 39-year-old veteran looked a bit shaky in his first start since offseason back surgery, and he’ll get at least one additional rehab tune-up prior to returning to the Rangers’ starting rotation mix in early May. • McKenzie has mini bounceback vs Red Sox
Triston McKenzie allowed two runs on six hits in four innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Six hits in four innings isn’t great, but McKenzie did strike out seven batters and walk just two. However, McKenzie’s fastball still averaged just 91 mph which is not what we want to see. He was able to get whiffs on it against a depleted Red Sox lineup that was without Triston Casas, Tyler O’Neill, and Masataka Yoshida, but it’s hard to feel overly confident since McKenzie was not able to find the strike zone with his curve on Thursday either. His ERA now sits at 4.91 on the season, and he’s not a recommended start next week in Houston. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

  • Alek Manoah (shoulder) set for another rehab start
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Thursday that Alek Manoah (shoulder) is likely to make another rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: No matter how you slice it, Manoah hasn’t been good his last few times out for Triple-A Buffalo. He allowed six runs on seven hits and four walks over three innings on Wednesday in his latest rehab outing and doesn’t appear close to making an impact for the Blue Jays, or fantasy managers, once he’s deemed ready to make his season debut. He’s hardly a superior option to Yariel Rodriguez at this point, but it might make more sense from a roster construction standpoint to have him shift to a long relief role with Manoah back in the rotation. • Chase Anderson chased in 2nd inning vs CLE
Chase Anderson allowed five runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings in a loss to the Guardians on Thursday.

Advice: Chase Anderson was moved from the bullpen into the rotation to help the Red Sox cover for injuries to Brayan Bello and Garrett Whitlock and it didn’t go well. He also walked three and struck out nobody on the afternoon. Anderson may get another opportunity next week against the Giants with the Red Sox staff so beat up, but he’s not worthy of a pick-up in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Next start will be Monday
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Paxton's next start will be at Arizona on Monday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Paxton would be on regular rest Sunday after he started Tuesday's game against the Nationals, but the Dodgers will go with a bullpen game Sunday in Toronto and give Paxton an extra day of rest. The southpaw has managed a 2.61 ERA but a 1.55 WHIP and 11:17 K:BB through 20.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago
