      Matt Vierling went 1-for-3 with a walk against the Brewers on Friday.

      Advice: It was a quiet night for the Tigers offense as they were shutout and managed only two hits. Still, Vierling got on base twice out of the leadoff spot. His average is up to .282 with a .794 OPS on the season.       Joe Ryan allowed two runs in seven innings and took the loss against the Pirates on Friday night.



      Advice: Ryan gave up two hits, walked two and struck out eight. The runs against Ryan came on an Oneil Cruz solo home run and a sacrifice fly by Nick Gonzales. He pitched well but didn’t get any run support from the Twins lineup. Ryan had won three of his last five previous starts. His ERA is now 3.30 on the season. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rockies at home next week.

    • Seiya Suzuki leaves with apparent injury vs. Reds
      Seiya Suzuki has left Fridays game against the Reds with an apparent injury.

      Advice: Suzuki was hit with a throw during a stolen base, and the outfielder didn’t appear to be comfortable after. Mike Tauchman has taken over for Suzuki in right field.       Machado (hip) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Machado sustained a mild right hip flexor strain Wednesday against the Angels, and the 31-year-old will sit for a second straight game Friday. While he didn't start in the series opener against Arizona on Thursday, Machado did pinch hit for Kyle Higashioka in the eighth inning and grounded out to the pitcher.       After being held out of the starting lineup due to a hip flexor, Manny Machado grounded out as a pinch-hitter Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Machado was held out of Thursday's lineup after suffering a hip flexor strain Wednesday. He is considered day-to-day and was expected to be unavailable Thursday.       Gray (7-4) allowed three runs on two hits and four walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Rockies on Thursday.

      Advice: The four walks were a season high for Gray, and he also uncorked two wild pitches, one of which allowed a run to score in the fifth inning. Gray's control issues have manifested with five straight starts where he's allowed multiple walks, and he's failed to complete six innings in any of his last four outings. The right-hander is now at a 3.21 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 82:19 K:BB over 61.2 innings through 11 starts this season. Gray is projected to make his next start at home versus the Pirates.       Advice: Gray gave up two hits, walked four and struck out five. It was an uneven start for Gray, who threw 89 pitches. He had two wild pitches, one of which allowed a run to score. Gray also had a pitch clock violation. While his ERA increased to 3.21 on the year, his xFIP is much lower at 2.64.       Advice: Morel can be streaky with his power production, but he appears to be locked in right now, as he has two home runs across his last three games and three in his last seven contests. The surge has pushed him up to 12 long balls for the season. Morel popped 26 home runs last year, and he certainly could reach or surpass that figure in 2024 if he stays healthy.
