  • A.J. Ellis homers twice in rout over Cubs
A.J. Ellis had a pair of two-run homers and scored three runs in Friday's victory over the Cubs.

Advice: Edwin Jackson getting chased early turned out to be a good thing for Ellis, as he took Jackson's replacement, Eric Jokisch, out of the park once in the first and again in the third. He also drew a walk. It was a big day in what has been an ugly offensive season for Ellis, as he's still hitting just .193/.328/.261. Rotoworld.com

  • Stephen Vogt returns to Athletics' lineup
Stephen Vogt is back in the Athletics' lineup Friday.

Advice: It will be his first start in over two weeks, as Vogt has been nursing a sprained left ankle. The's A's are desperate for offense right now, so if he hits, Vogt will play even if he might not be 100 percent yet. Rotoworld.com

  • Avila tries to swing bat, feels 'disoriented'
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said that Alex Avila (concussion) felt "disoriented" when he tried taking some swings Thursday and Friday.

Advice: Avila is sitting out Friday for the 10th time in 17 games this month due to post-concussion issues, and it sounds like, if anything, his symptoms are getting worse. With just over a week left in the season, he might not make it back. James McCann is getting the start behind the dish Friday, and he'll share time with Bryan Holaday while Avila is out. • Alex Avila (concussion) out again Friday
Alex Avila (concussion) remained out of the Tigers' lineup Friday.

Advice: Avila has dealt with post-concussion issues for a good chunk of September, starting just nine of a possible 16 games. He'll miss the first game of the huge three-game set against the Royals and it's not clear when he'll return to action. James McCann is behind the dish Friday. Rotoworld.com

  • Welington Castillo exits with back injury
Welington Castillo left Friday's game against the Dodgers with an apparent back injury.

Advice: Castillo appeared to tweak his back in the top of the first inning and was pinch-hit for by Rafael Lopez in the bottom of the frame. The Cubs should have more on Castillo's status later Friday. Rotoworld.com

Ruiz will have the shoulder examined after the season to see if he needs to have surgery. Rotoworld.com

Cruz scored Matt Adams from second base on a single to center field off of Jimmy Nelson. Cruz had entered the game in the top of the 10th after Yadier Molina had been replaced with a pinch-runner in the previous inning. • Rosario walks Rockies off with a 2-run homer
Wilin Rosario sent the Rockies home happy, clubbing a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Rockies had chipped away at the Diamondbacks' five-run lead, scoring twice in the sixth and twice in the eighth to make it 6-5. With two outs and a man on, Rosario took advantage of an Addison Reed offering, sending a 387-foot blast to left-center. The catcher, who finished 4-for-5 on the evening, now has 12 homers on the season with 51 RBI and a .265/.301/.432 slash line. Rotoworld.com

  • Bethancourt singles in 3 runs as Braves win
Christian Bethancourt's sixth-inning single allowed three runs to score, helping the Braves top the Nationals on Wednesday.

Advice: Two runs scored initially on the single, which deflected off of the glove of first baseman Tyler Moore and was just out of the range of second baseman Jeff Kobernus. Jason Heyward came around to score as the Nationals weren't paying much attention; Bethancourt was not credited with an RBI. The rookie catcher finished 1-for-4 with the two RBI, giving him nine on the season along with a lackluster .259/.284/.271 slash line. Rotoworld.com

  • Avila (head) out of DET lineup again Tuesday
Alex Avila (head) is out of the Tigers' starting lineup again on Tuesday night.

Advice: Avila took a foul tip off his mask on Sunday, so he was held out Monday and Bryan Holaday will get another start behind the plate Tuesday versus the Twins. Avila has a history of concussions, so the Tigers are going to play it safe with him down the stretch. Rotoworld.com

  • Wilin Rosario goes 3-for-4, homers
Wilin Rosario went 3-for-4 and homered against the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: It's worth wondering what's in store for Rosario after his disappointing offensive season; despite all of his success in 2012 and 2013, the Rockies tried to sign Brian McCann last winter with the idea of moving Rosario out from behind the plate. There won't really be anywhere to move Rosario this winter, so he'll either remain a catcher or possibly get traded. It'd be a case of selling low for the Rockies, though. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 9:30 pm
  • Christian Bethancourt goes 2-for-4
Christian Bethancourt went 2-for-4 and drove in a run Monday against the Nationals.

Advice: Bethancourt has gotten the call over Gerald Laird with Evan Gattis out, and he's hit .321 with four RBI in eight games this month, albeit with no extra-base hits and no walks. For the year, he's at .269 with just one extra-base hit (a double) and a 20/2 K/BB ratio in 78 at-bats. Since he's at least managed to hold his own -- and since he's a big defensive upgrade over Gattis -- he will give the Braves a tough decision to make this winter. He's going to be their long-term catcher; it just remains to be seen whether he's going to push Gattis to the outfield this winter or if he'll have to wait a little longer. Rotoworld.com

  • D-Backs call up C Bobby Wilson

Advice: Wilson, 31, batted .267/.324/.341 with three home runs and 38 RBI over 76 games this season in Triple-A. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2012 with the Angels, but will give Arizona an extra catcher over the final two weeks. Rotoworld.com

  • Alex Avila (head) not in Monday's lineup
Alex Avila (head) is not in Monday's lineup against the Twins.

Advice: Avila left Sunday's game with lightheadedness after taking a foul tip off the mark. The Tigers aren't going to take any chances, given his history. Bryan Holaday will start behind the plate. Rotoworld.com

  • Travis d'Arnaud batting third for first time
Travis d'Arnaud is batting third Monday for the first time in his major league career.

  • Stephen Vogt unlikely to be ready on Tuesday
Stephen Vogt (ankle) is unlikely to be ready to return for Tuesday's series opener against the Rangers.

Advice: Vogt has been able to take swings in the batting cages in recent days, but is still bothered too much by his sore ankle to run the bases at full strength. Even if he does return at some point next week, he is likely to play only sporadically which makes it difficult to trust him in weekly formats. Rotoworld.com

  • Alex Avila leaves game with lightheadedness
Alex Avila left Sunday's game against the Indians with lightheadedness.

  • Cervelli (migraines) close to returning
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Saturday that Francisco Cervelli (migraine headaches) is "getting closer" to returning to action.

Advice: Cervelli hasn't played since September 2 due to migraine headaches but has been catching in the bullpen. It's been an injury-shortened season for the 28-year-old, as Cervelli missed nearly two months earlier this year with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld.com

  • Avila slugs go-ahead HR, Tigers stay in first
Alex Avila slugged a go-ahead two-run homer in the Tigers' 5-4 defeat of the Indians on Saturday.

It was his only hit of the night, but it helped keep the Tigers at the top of the American League Central standings (by a half-game over the Royals). Avila is batting .222/.329/.371 with 11 home runs and 47 RBI in 117 games this season. Rotoworld.com

  • D'Arnaud (wrist) doubles in return to action
Travis d'Arnaud (wrist) had a two-run double Friday against the Nationals.

Advice: D'Arnaud made an early exit Thursday due to a wrist issue, but it's apparently not a big deal. Three runs actually scored on his double in the first inning, but he was only credited with two RBI because of an error. The 25-year-old is batting .246/.305/.416 in his first full season in the majors, but he has come a long way offensively since returning from his demotion in June. Rotoworld.com

  • Travis d'Arnaud in Mets' lineup Friday
Travis d'Arnaud is back in the Mets' lineup Friday.
