  • Alcantara (wrist) out again Thursday
Arismendy Alcantara (wrist) is out of the Cubs' lineup again Thursday.

Advice: Alcantara suffered a right wrist sprain when he slammed into the outfield wall on Monday and will miss his third straight game Thursday, but he plans to hit in the cage and take batting practice. If all goes well, he could play Friday. Rotoworld.com

  • Holt (concussion) to resume activities
Brock Holt (concussion) will resume baseball activities Friday.

Advice: Holt was diagnosed with a concussion last week, but he got positive news in a checkup on Thursday. While he's making progress, it's unclear if he'll play again this season. Red Sox manager John Farrell has mentioned the possibility of sending him to the instructional league next month so that he can go into the offseason with some peace of mind. Rotoworld.com

  • Nationals claim Pedro Florimon off waivers
Nationals claimed INF Pedro Florimon off waivers from the Twins.

Advice: Florimon is a .204/.266/.300 career hitter in 692 career plate appearances at the major league level, but he is athletic enough to play all around the infield. The Nats designated outfielder Eury Perez for assignment to open up a 40-man roster spot. Rotoworld.com

  • Reddick (neck) out of A's lineup Thursday
Josh Reddick is out of the A's starting lineup on Thursday due to a sore neck and ankle.

Advice: Reddick underwent an MRI on Thursday morning that showed no structural damage. He's considered day-to-day. Sam Fuld is starting in right field versus Texas. Rotoworld.com

  • Nationals designate Eury Perez for assignment
Nationals designated OF Eury Perez for assignment.

Advice: Perez has a decent .310/.354/.411 batting line with 63 stolen bases in 193 career games at Triple-A. The 24-year-old outfielder should draw interest on waivers. Rotoworld.com

  • Vogt (ankle) out of A's lineup again Thursday
Stephen Vogt (ankle) is out of the A's starting lineup again on Thursday versus the Rangers.

Advice: Vogt hasn't started in over two weeks because of a sprained left ankle. He was able to pinch-hit Wednesday, but Billy Burns pinch-ran for Vogt after he drew a walk in the bottom of the eighth inning. Rotoworld.com

  • Hechavarria (shoulder) goes 1-for-3 in return
Adeiny Hechavarria (shoulder) went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's win.

Advice: Hechavarria missed Tuesday's game with a sore left shoulder. It was never a serious concern. The 25-year-old shortstop is batting .281/.313/.365 this season. Rotoworld.com

Stephen Vogt (ankle) drew a walk as a pinch-hitter in Wednesday night's loss to the Rangers.

  • Rosales goes 3-for-4 with a steal in victory
Adam Rosales went 3-for-4 with a steal in Wednesday's 6-1 win against the A's.

Advice: He's 6-for-12 (.500) with two walks over his last three games, the past two of which have come against his former team. Which must be sweet. You might recall last year's Rosales transaction shenanigans between these two clubs. If not, here's your primer: The A's DFA'd him on Deadline Day, the Rangers claimed him on August 2, they DFA'd him on August 5, the A's claimed him back on August 8 and DFA'd him on August 10. The Rangers got him back for good on yet another claim two days later. Rosales has surprisingly turned into a productive AL-only player as the season winds down. He's now slashing .297/.371/.445 across 46 games. Rotoworld.com

  • OF Brown has 2 hits in win agaisnt Padres
Domonic Brown went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the Phillies' win over the Padres on Wednesday.

Advice: It's been a long, lonely, treacherous season for the 2013 revelation. But he just finished off a solid series at Petco, going 4-for-11 (.363) with a homer and a steal. Hey, his owners will take whatever they can get at this point. Brown, slashing .234/.286/.353, is very likely playing out the string on his Phillies' career. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported earlier this month that the Phillies will look to trade Brown this winter. Rotoworld.com

  • Cron goes 2-for-3 with HR vs. the Mariners
C.J. Cron went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in a win over the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Cron had gone 1-for-10 with zero RBI in his previous five games since going deep for the last time. At this point in his career, Cron is a bit of an all-or-nothing proposition. The .482 slugging percentage is spectacular, but he'll want to get on base at a better than .301 clip in future campaigns. Rotoworld.com

  • Jose Ramirez goes hitless again
Jose Ramirez went 0-for-4 on Wednesday and is hitless in 10 at-bats in the series against the Astros.

Advice: The Indians were too cheap to promote Francisco Lindor, so Ramirez will finish out the season at shortstop, even though he hasn't proven to be any kind of threat at the plate. He's currently hitting .246/.293/.318 in 195 at-bats. Rotoworld.com

  • Bethancourt singles in 3 runs as Braves win
Christian Bethancourt's sixth-inning single allowed three runs to score, helping the Braves top the Nationals on Wednesday.

Advice: Two runs scored initially on the single, which deflected off of the glove of first baseman Tyler Moore and was just out of the range of second baseman Jeff Kobernus. Jason Heyward came around to score as the Nationals weren't paying much attention; Bethancourt was not credited with an RBI. The rookie catcher finished 1-for-4 with the two RBI, giving him nine on the season along with a lackluster .259/.284/.271 slash line. Rotoworld.com

  • Alcantara (wrist) aiming to return Thursday
Arismendy Alcantara (wrist) is aiming to return to the Cubs' starting lineup on Thursday.

Advice: Alcantara suffered a right wrist sprain when he slammed into the outfield wall on Monday and has missed two straight games, but he can throw with no pain and will attempt batting practice on Thursday afternoon. If it goes well, look for him to return. Rotoworld.com

  • Alcantara (wrist) absent from Wed. lineup
Arismendy Alcantara (wrist) remained out of the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: There's no word yet on Alcantara's MRI results, but obviously his right wrist is still not game-ready. The Cubs should have more on the outfielder's status later Wednesday. Ryan Kalish is in center field Wednesday. Rotoworld.com

  • Garin Cecchini recalled from Triple-A
Red Sox recalled 3B Garin Cecchini from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Advice: Cecchini was up briefly with the big club earlier this season but spent almost all of the year at Pawtucket, batting just .263/.341/.371 with seven homers and 11 steals over 114 games. He'll be used off the bench for the rest of the month. Rotoworld.com

  • Amarista finishes a triple short of the cycle
Alexi Amarista finished 3-for-4 with a double, homer, two RBI and one run scored on Tuesday against the Phillies.

Advice: He came into this game batting .204 with no extra-base hits in September. So naturally Amarista finishes a triple short of the cycle in Petco, doing most of his damage against Phillies' starter A.J. Burnett. It'll be awhile before you see another performance like this out of Amarista. Even after the monster game, he's batting .242/.292/.313 on the season. Rotoworld.com

  • Rookie OF Liriano has 3 hits against Phillies
Rymer Liriano finished 3-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's win against the Phillies.

Advice: This was only Liriano's fourth multi-hit game in 31 big league contests, and it set his new career-high for hits in a game. The 23-year-old's tools are evident in games, but the production hasn't been nearly good enough to guarantee him an Opening Day start next spring. Liriano is slashing .228/.294/.283 with a homer, four steals, and a 28/7 K/BB ratio. He'd whiffed in nine of his last 10 games, but managed to avoid a punch out this evening. Rotoworld.com

  • Arismendy Alcantara undergoes MRI on wrist
Arismendy Alcantara underwent an MRI on his ailing right wrist Tuesday.

  • Alcantara (wrist) not in Tuesday's lineup
Arismendy Alcantara is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Reds due to right wrist soreness.

Advice: Alcantara slammed into the outfield wall on Monday and was wearing a wrap after the game. Consider him day-to-day for now. Rotoworld.com

  • Christian Bethancourt goes 2-for-4
Christian Bethancourt went 2-for-4 and drove in a run Monday against the Nationals.

Advice: Bethancourt has gotten the call over Gerald Laird with Evan Gattis out, and he's hit .321 with four RBI in eight games this month, albeit with no extra-base hits and no walks. For the year, he's at .269 with just one extra-base hit (a double) and a 20/2 K/BB ratio in 78 at-bats. Since he's at least managed to hold his own -- and since he's a big defensive upgrade over Gattis -- he will give the Braves a tough decision to make this winter. He's going to be their long-term catcher; it just remains to be seen whether he's going to push Gattis to the outfield this winter or if he'll have to wait a little longer. Rotoworld.com

  • Stephen Vogt unlikely to be ready on Tuesday
Stephen Vogt (ankle) is unlikely to be ready to return for Tuesday's series opener against the Rangers.

Advice: Vogt has been able to take swings in the batting cages in recent days, but is still bothered too much by his sore ankle to run the bases at full strength. Even if he does return at some point next week, he is likely to play only sporadically which makes it difficult to trust him in weekly formats. Rotoworld.com

  • Domonic Brown returns to lineup with two hits
Domonic Brown (shoulder) returned to action on Friday, going 2-for-4 in an extra-inning victory over the Marlins.

Advice: Brown left Wednesday's game with a left shoulder contusion sustained after diving for a ball in the outfield, then sat out Thursday's contest as a precautionary measure. After a breakout 2013 season, the 2014 campaign hasn't been as kind to the 27-year-old outfielder as he's slashing just .233/.285/.349 with nine homers and 59 RBI. Rotoworld.com

  • C.J. Cron returns to lineup
C.J. Cron returned to action on Friday and went 0-for-3 against the Astros.

  • Alcantara hits solo homer vs. Pirates
Arismendy Alcantara went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Pirates on Friday.

Advice: It was his first multi-hit game since August 24. With nine homers and seven stolen bases, Alcantara has some enticing skills, but he's batting just .210/.262/.369 through his first 58 games in the majors. Rotoworld.com

  • Hechavarria plates run in loss to Phillies
Adeiny Hechavarria drove home the Marlins lone run in Friday's loss to the Phillies.

Advice: His RBI single in the sixth inning plated Jeff Baker, tying the game at 1-1. He finished the evening 2-for-4, raising his season slash to .280/.311/.364. He doesn't provide much in the way of power or speed, but is worth using in NL-only formats for his consistent at-bats. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Vogt took some swings in the batting cage Wednesday but is still bothered by a sprained left ankle. He hasn't played since September 3 and can't be counted on for the rest of the season. "It was a pretty significant sprain," manager Bob Melvin said. Rotoworld.com

  • Domonic Brown available off the bench
Domonic Brown (shoulder) is available to pinch-hit Thursday.

Advice: Brown left Wednesday's game with a left shoulder injury, but he's fine. He probably could have started Thursday but was slated to come off the bench, anyway, with the Phillies facing lefty Francisco Liriano. "He's available. He got a little stinger last night in his shoulder area that he initially felt. It tightened up a little bit as we went along but the bigger issue out there was he just got the wind knocked out of him," manager Ryne Sandberg said. Rotoworld.com

  • Brown exits game with left shoulder contusion
Domonic Brown left Wednesday's game with a left shoulder contusion.

Advice: Brown dove for a ball in left field in the fifth inning but stayed in the game at the time. He was later pinch-hit for by Darin Ruf. The Phillies should update his status after the game, but it's likely a day-to-day situation for now. Rotoworld.com

  • Brown removed after landing hard in outfield
Domonic Brown was removed in the sixth inning of Wednesday's game against the Pirates after injuring himself diving for a ball.

Advice: Brown laid out for a ball in left field in the fifth inning and stayed down briefly before staying in the game. He played another inning before being pinch-hit for in the bottom of the sixth inning. Darin Ruf pinch-hit for him and replaced him in left. Rotoworld.com

  • Amarista snaps morbid 0-for-17 streak
Alexi Amarista snapped an 0-for-17 stretch of futility by going 1-for-4 with a run scored Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Amarista's calling card is his defense, but even the leather wouldn't keep him in the lineup for most teams. The Padres have always viewed offense as optional, so he makes for a nice fit. Amarista is slashing .234/.285/.298 with three homers over 359 at-bats. Rotoworld.com
