    • Jeff Hoffman slams door on Cardinals on Friday
Jeff Hoffman slammed the door on the Cardinals in the ninth inning on Friday night, protecting a two-run lead to earn his fifth save of the season.

Advice: The 31-year-old hurler came on with a two-run advantage to protect against the heart of the Cardinals’ lineup. He made it look easy, getting Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman on swinging third strikes before retiring Nolan Arenado on a fly ball to right to end it. Hoffman has been outstanding out of the Phillies’ bullpen this season, posting a 1.09 ERA and a 32/7 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 innings of work. Rotoworld Friday, 5:58 pm

    • Not starting Thursday
Lopez won't start Thursday's game against the Nationals, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Lopez pitched on four days of rest for the second time all season Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) in 4.2 innings -- his shortest start of the season. Rather than sending him to the mound after a traditional four-day rest period again, Atlanta will push his next start back and give the ball to Ray Kerr to close out its current series against Washington. The team hasn't yet announced when Lopez's next start will come, though it's possible he simply moves back a day to start Friday's series opener against the Athletics. • Fans six in victory
Irvin (5-2) picked up the win in Monday's 11-3 victory over Boston, scattering four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six and did not allow a run.

Advice: The 30-year-old southpaw was sharp, not allowing an extra-base hit and matching his season best with six strikeouts. The three walks were uncharacteristic for Irvin, who allowed just one free pass over his previous 24.1 innings pitched. After allowing nine earned runs over his first two starts of the season, Irvin has yielded just seven earned runs over his past eight starts, good for a 1.55 ERA in that span. He will look to keep it rolling in his next start, currently scheduled for this weekend in Tampa. Rotowire.com Monday, 2:06 pm

    • Cole Irvin tosses five frames to beat Red Sox
Cole Irvin spun five shutout innings on Monday in a win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Irvin was staked to an early lead and was able to cruise to a relatively easy victory, limiting Boston’s lineup to just four hits over five frames of work. He struck out six and also handed out a trio of free passes. The 30-year-old lefty still isn’t missing a ton of bats, but he’s been effective in his last couple outings following a rocky start to the year. He’ll remain in Baltimore’s starting rotation mix with both John Means (forearm) and Dean Kremer (triceps) on the shelf. He’ll bring a strong 2.84 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36/11 K/BB ratio across 50 2/3 innings (10 appearances, eight starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the strikeout-prone Rays. • Locked in to start Monday
Irvin will start Monday's game against the Red Sox in Baltimore, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Advice: As expected, Irvin will draw back into the rotation as a replacement for John Means (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Though he made his last two appearances in relief, Irvin shouldn't be in line for any major workload restrictions Monday after he covered 3.1 innings out of the bullpen last Wednesday against the Cardinals. Over his prior seven starts with Baltimore this season, Irvin went 4-1 with a 2.90 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB in 40.1 innings. Rotowire.com May 27, 7:25 am

    • Goes seven innings for win
Lively (4-2) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over seven innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over the Angels.

Advice: Lively looked terrific with the exception of Matt Thaiss' two-run shot in the fifth inning. It was Lively's first quality start since May 4 but he's now won three straight starts. He's allowed three or fewer runs in each of his eight starts this year, resulting in an impressive 2.80 ERA through 45 innings. Lively's next start is expected to be at home against the Nationals, where he'll look to extend his winning streak to four. Rotowire.com May 27, 5:00 am

    • Extends strikeout streak
Estrada (2-0) earned the win over the Yankees on Sunday, striking out all five batters he faced.

Advice: Estrada threw 20 of 26 pitches for strikes and got all five of his punchouts on swinging strikes. The right-handed reliever has now struck out each of the last 10 batters he's faced swinging to set a Padres record. Estrada's been dominant during his time with San Diego this season, allowing just one earned run over 15.1 frames while posting a 25:4 K:BB. Rotowire.com May 26, 9:40 pm
    • Ben Lively delivers against Angels
Ben Lively allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings in a win over the Angels on Sunday.

Advice: The right-hander struck out five and walked two on the day. There’s nothing exceptional about Lively’s arsenal as he had just seven whiffs on the day for a 16 percent whiff rate and 23 percent CSW. However, he has six pitches that he can go to and he showcases above-average command which allows him to produce in the right matchup and post a 2.80 ERA over eight starts. Aside from a poor start against the Rangers and one average start against the White Sox, Lively has been solid. He’s not a long-term hold, but he can certainly be streamed next week against the Nationals. Rotoworld May 26, 4:45 pm

    • Cole Irvin confirmed to start Monday vs. Red Sox
Cole Irvin will start Monday’s game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Irvin will be taking the rotation spot of John Means after Means was placed on the injured list. Irvin was mostly effective in his rotation efforts earlier in the year, and he has a 3.15 ERA and 30/8 K/BB over his 45 2/3 innings thus far in 2024. Because of his inability to miss bats, he’s a risky streaming option whenever he takes the mound. Rotoworld May 26, 9:49 am
