      Advice: The Nationals had only three hits on the afternoon, so while Abrams was busy on the basepaths, his efforts couldn't generate any offense. The 23-year-old shortstop had been slumping heading into June, but he wrapped up the month with a dazzling .373/.464/.663 slash line in 97 plate appearances, adding four of his 13 homers on the season and six of his 14 steals.       Anderson (7-8) yielded six runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.2 innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Tigers.

      Advice: Anderson gave up one run through three innings before the Tigers plated three runs in the fourth. He was charged with two more when Carson Kelly drilled a three-run homer off Andrew Wantz in the fifth. It was the most runs allowed by Anderson this season and his ERA jumped from 2.63 to 3.03 through 104 frames. He went 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA in six June outings.       Castillo allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out three over five innings Sunday against the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: The Twins struck early with a run in the first on two base hits. Castillo went on to retire 11 of the next 12 batters he faced but then ran into more trouble in the fifth, allowing a double and two more singles, which led to another pair of runs for the Twins. He was able to work his way through the inning, but his day would end there at 77 pitches. Castillo managed to not give up any free passes for the first time since May 12, though he's also failed to complete six innings in four of his last five starts.       Irvin (6-5) took the loss against the Rangers on Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings.

      Advice: Irvin served up a two-run blast to Derek Hill in the second and was chased out of the game in the fourth after surrendering a triple, three singles and a walk, leading to three more runs for the Rangers. He's now failed to cover at least five innings in three straight starts and has given up 14 runs over that span while compiling just a 5:4 K:BB in his last 12.1 innings pitched. Irvin now owns a 4.13 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 56:17 K:BB in 80.2 innings this season. He's lined up for a start against the Athletics this weekend, though it's worth monitoring what manager Brandon Hyde decides to do with his rotation spot following his recent struggles with Dean Kremer (triceps) on the cusp of returning from a rehab assignment.       Advice: Irvin seemed safe from being threatened by Dean Kramer’s return, but with three poor outings in a row taking his ERA from 3.03 to 4.17, a demotion to the pen is realistic.     • Luis Castillo grabs a bat Sunday against Twins
      Luis Castillo struck out three and allowed three runs over five innings on Sunday in a no-decision against the Twins.

      Advice: What a mess. Castillo was forced to grab a bat, and struck out looking in the fourth inning, after Seattle lost the designated hitter earlier in the contest when Mitch Haniger left the game following a hit by pitch. The 31-year-old righty was simply outdueled by Twins starter Joe Ryan, who limited the Mariners to just a pair of runs into the sixth inning before the bullpen took over and pretty much shut things down completely from there on out. He’ll bring a respectable 3.87 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 103/30 K/BB ratio across 104 2/3 innings (18 starts) into a home outing on Friday against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:31 pm

      Tyler Anderson was lit up for six runs over 4 2/3 innings on Sunday in a loss to the Tigers.

      Advice: Anderson was shelled for seven hits, including a two-run homer by Tigers rookie Justyn-Henry Malloy. He finished with just two strikeouts and only issued one walk. The 34-year-old southpaw has experienced some significant pullback in the run-prevention department over the last few weeks as his ERA has ballooned from 2.47 back on May 29 to a more league-average 3.03 mark by the end of June.       Hoffman struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save Sunday vs. Miami.

      Advice: Hoffman allowed a runner to reach on an error but was otherwise solid in picking up his sixth save. Jose Alvarado leads the Phillies with 12 saves this season, but Hoffman has gotten the occasional opportunity.
