    • Strikes out eight in win
Skenes (5-0) earned the win against the Mets on Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

Advice: Skenes surrendered a solo home run in the third inning and another run in the fourth but was otherwise fantastic. According to The Athletic, he is the first pitcher in major-league history to record seven or more strikeouts in nine of his first ten career starts. The rookie has not lost a game this season and owns a 2.12 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 78:12 K:BB over 59.1 innings. He lines up for a road matchup with the Brewers next week. • Slated for flat-ground throwing
Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Montgomery (knee) will begin throwing off flat ground Saturday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Lovullo noted that Montgomery is still dealing with a bit of inflammation in his right knee, but the team believes he'll be in good enough condition to throw. Assuming all goes well Saturday, the 31-year-old southpaw will likely be given the green light to begin throwing off a mound within the next several days. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago
    • Paul Skenes strikes out eight Mets in win
Paul Skenes allowed two earned runs across seven innings on Friday in the Pirates’ lopsided 14-2 win over the Mets. He struck out eight and walked two en route to the win.

Advice: Skenes got better as this game went on. He retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced and the one that reached was an infield single where Jose Iglesias was ruled out on the field before it was reviewed. He threw nearly the same number of fastballs and splinkers in this game, the third straight start he mixed them virtually evenly. He also threw his slider 23% of the time. That was the first time he’s thrown it that often since May 29th. Alone, all three of those pitches are awesome. Together with his velocity and command makes him one of the best pitchers in baseball. • Montgomery set to throw off flat ground Saturday
Jordan Montgomery (knee) is scheduled to throw off of flat ground on Saturday.

Advice: Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Montgomery is still dealing with some inflammation in his knee, but the expectation is that he’ll be good enough to resume throwing on Saturday. Depending on how Saturday’s session goes, the club may be able to give a timeline for when the 31-year-old southpaw may be able to return. Rotoworld Today, 6:03 pm
    • On bench again
Polanco is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.

Advice: Polanco is absent from the starting nine for a second consecutive game, as Dylan Moore fills second base and bats eighth Friday. Polanco is slashing .195/.284/.292 across 208 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Today, 2:21 pm

    • Jorge Polanco not in Mariners’ lineup on Friday
Jorge Polanco is not in the Mariners’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Blue Jays.

Advice: The 31-year-old second baseman has really struggled since returning from the injured list, hitting just .192/.222/.231 with no homers, one RBI and a 13/0 K/BB ratio over 27 plate appearances. Yikes. Dylan Moore will start in his place at second base on Friday night and will bat eighth against Kevin Gausman and the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Today, 2:21 pm

    • Reaches four times in win
Lowe went 3-for-5 in Thursday's win over the Royals with a double, a homer and three runs scored while also drawing a walk.

Advice: Lowe doubled in his second trip to the plate before coming around to score four batters later on a Jonny DeLuca single, extending Tampa Bay's lead to four runs. The second baseman then added a solo homer in the sixth and went on to reach four times in the contest - the first time he's done so this season. Lowe's three hits on the night also marked a season high, and he's now homered three of his last four games. Over that stretch he's batting .333 (5-for-15) with three RBI and six runs scored. • Shaky in win
Eflin (5-5) picked up the win over the Royals on Thursday, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk over five innings while striking out three.

Advice: Eflin didn't have his best stuff Thursday, surrendering at least one run in four of the six innings in which he appeared. Despite those struggles, the veteran right-hander was able to secure his fifth win of the season and the fourth win in his last five decisions (spanning nine starts). Eflin has now gone at least five innings in five consecutive starts, though he's given up multiple runs in four of those outings, raising his ERA to 4.19 on the season. Rotowire.com Today, 4:03 am
    • Lowe has three hits, home run in win over Royals
Brandon Lowe went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a home run and three runs scored against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: Lowe’s home run was his eighth of the season and third in his last four games. He took Will Smith deep for a solo shot in the sixth inning. It hasn’t been Lowe’s best season, but he’s showing signs of life lately. He’s hitting .229 with an .810 OPS and 25 RBI on the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:46 pm
