    • Records 10th steal
Merrill went 2-for-5 with one RBI and one stolen base in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Merrill stole his first base since June 9. Over the 20 games between thefts, the rookie outfielder impressed, hitting .347 with nine home runs, 19 RBI and 14 runs scored. For the season, he's at a .293/.326/.458 slash line with 12 homers, 10 steals, 43 RBI and 39 runs scored over 86 contests while taking on a near-everyday role in center field. • Craig Kimbrel picks up 21st save Wednesday
Craig Kimbrel struck out two batters in a scoreless inning to earn the save against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Kimbrel was summoned to close out the game with a three-run lead in the ninth. He made quick work of the Mariners, striking out two batters in a perfect inning on 18 pitches. The 36-year-old right-hander picks up his 21st save and 437th of his career, moving him ahead of Francisco Rodríguez for fourth all time. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:41 pm
    • Blake Snell dominates in final rehab start
Blake Snell delivered a dominant performance in his final minor league rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, piling up nine strikeouts over five scoreless frames.

Advice: The reigning National League Cy Young award winner didn’t allow a hit in the contest, allowing just one base on balls. Snell got up to 67 pitches (46 strikes) in this one, cruising through his five innings. As long as he checks out fine physically, expect him to rejoin the Giants’ rotation next week. • Jared Jones exits Wednesday start with lat strain
Jared Jones was removed from Wednesday’s start against the Cardinals after five innings due to a right lat strain.

Advice: The assumption when Jones was pulled after just 78 pitches was that it was simply another way for the Pirates to manage the 22-year-old hurler’s workload, but it sounds like there was an injury issue at play as well. Jones told reporters after the game that he wasn’t too concerned about it, but the Pirates aren’t going to take any unnecessary risks with him. His availability for next week’s start against the Mets is completely in the air at this point. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:04 pm

    • Exits with strained lat
Jones was removed from his start Wednesday versus St. Louis due to a right lat strain, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Jones managed to get through five innings of one-run ball while striking out five batters and walking two before coming out of Wednesday's contest. The 22-year-old said after the game that he could have kept pitching if necessary, but the team opted for a cautious approach in order to prevent his injury from worsening. Pittsburgh will keep an eye on Jones' lat as his next start approaches, but the initial level of concern seems relatively low. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:01 pm

    • Jared Jones completes five frames vs. Cardinals
Jared Jones struck out five and yielded one run over five innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

Advice: Pittsburgh continues to carefully manage their prized rookie right-hander’s workload this season as Jones was limited to just 78 pitches (52 strikes) over five innings in this one after spinning seven innings on 94 pitches his last time out against the Rays. The 22-year-old rookie sensation generated 10 swinging strikes, with eight of those coming on his slider alone, and finished with a solid 33 percent CSW. He’ll bring a strong 3.56 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 98/27 K/BB ratio across 91 innings (16 starts) into a home outing on Monday against the Mets in his penultimate start prior to the Midsummer Classic. • Bryce Harper leads N.L. All-Star vote getters
Bryce Harper led all National League players in voting for the All-Star Game, getting named to his eighth All-Star team.

Advice: What remains unclear is whether or not Harper — who is currently stationed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, will be able to participate in the Mid-Summer Classic. Here’s who will join him in the starting lineup for the National League All-Stars (with their number of times making the All-Star team and starting in the game in parentheses): C: William Contreras (2 - 1x starter), 1B: Bryce Harper (8 - 7x starter), 2B: Ketel Marte (2 - 2x starter), SS: Trea Turner (3 - 2x starter), 3B: Alec Bohm (1 - 1x starter), DH: Shohei Ohtani (4 - 4x starter), OF: Christian Yelich (3 - 2x starter), Jurickson Profar (1 - 1x starter) and Fernando Tatis Jr. (2 - 2x starter). • On verge of rehab assignment
Bogaerts (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment within the next day or two, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union Tribune reports.

Advice: Bogaerts had a CT scan of his left shoulder Monday, the results of which indicated that he is ready to resume playing. Acee indicates that the infielder will likely head out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso in the coming days, and team officials have previously suggested that a rehab stint would last 7 to 10 days. Though manager Mike Shildt recently said that there is no timeline for Bogaerts' activation from the injured list, if all goes well moving forward, he could rejoin the Padres for their home series against Atlanta that begins July 12. • Craig Kimbrel slams door on Mariners on Tuesday
Craig Kimbrel slammed the door on the Mariners on Tuesday night, retiring all three hitters that he faced in the ninth inning to preserve a two-run advantage.

Advice: It wasn’t the smoothest of innings for Kimbrel, as he plunked Luke Raley to start the frame and also hit Jorge Polanco with one out in the inning, but he rebounded to get Dominic Canzone on a ground out to first and Julio Rodriguez on strikes to end it. Aside from a small blip early in the season, Kimbrel has been exceptional in the ninth inning for the Orioles this season. He has now converted 20 of his first 24 save opportunities on the season while posting a 2.30 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 46/14 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings in 35 appearances. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:29 pm
