• Astros place José Urquidy (forearm) on 15-day IL
Astros placed José Urquidy (forearm) on the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Urquidy had an MRI on his arm last week and it showed no structural damage, which is a good sign that he’ll be back on the mound for the Astros at some point this season. He’s expected to throw in the next week or so and if everything looks like it should, he could be back in Houston’s rotation by late April or early May. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

  • Astros place Bennett Sousa (shoulder) on 15-day IL
Astros placed Bennett Sousa (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list.

Advice: The 28-year-old is dealing with left shoulder inflammation, so it’ll be interesting to see how long Sousa will be sidelined. He spent time with the Astros and Brewers last season where he posted a 9.00 ERA across 23 innings and will be a depth relief piece for Houston in 2024. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

  • Astros place Oliver Ortega (elbow) on 15-day IL
Astros placed Oliver Ortega (elbow) on the 15-day injured list.

Advice: The 27-year-old is expected to miss three to four months after he underwent right elbow surgery. He’s shut down from any baseball activities until at least late June, but it’s still up in the air if he’ll be ready to go by that date. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

  • Astros place Penn Murfee (elbow) on 15-day IL
Astros placed Penn Murfee (elbow) on the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Murfee was claimed off waivers earlier this week after he was released by the Braves. The 29-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery last season, but he’s not expected to be ready for baseball activity until sometime in June, making him a tough sell for fantasy managers to hold and stash. • Officially placed on injured list
The Astros placed Urquidy on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 25, with a right forearm strain, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: He suffered the injury during an appearance in a minor-league game in mid-March. Urquidy hopes to be cleared to begin a throwing program before long. Even if that happens, he's unlikely to be ready before the end of April. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

  • Placed on injured list
The Astros placed Sousa on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 25, with left shoulder inflammation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's not clear when Sousa suffered the injury, but it will keep him out for at least the first couple weeks of the season. The left-handed reliever should be in the mix for a spot in the bullpen once he's healthy. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

  • Added to roster
The Yankees selected Burdi's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Advice: Burdi has had a terrible time staying off the injured list in his pro career, but he's healthy now and won a bullpen spot after an impressive spring. The hard-thrower should work in the middle innings for now. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago
  • Goes on IL with knee injury
The Yankees placed Moore on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 25, with right knee bursitis.

Advice: Moore didn't pitch this spring because of the injury and it's not clear how long he might be out. The right-handed reliever was a waiver claim back in February. Rotowire.com 38 minutes ago

  • Robert Stephenson heads to IL with shoulder injury
Angels placed Robert Stephenson (right shoulder inflammation) on the 15-day IL.

Advice: This is not an unexpected move, but it’s now official. Stephenson’s injured list stint is retroactive to March 25th, so he can come off in under two weeks. We know he played catch last week and threw bullpens earlier this week, so it’s possible he won’t require a long stint on the injured list to start the year. While he will not be thrust into the closer’s role as soon as he’s activated, he should resume pitching in high-leverage situations and remains a good bet to eventually claim a large portion of the Angels’ save share in 2024.
