    • Jack Leiter gives up seven runs to Tigers in debut
Jack Leiter allowed seven runs over 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts in a no-decision against the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: Leiter allowed eight hits and issued three walks. It was the MLB debut for the second pick of the 2021 MLB Draft, and it wasn’t a particularly effective one. He was hurt by his defense with runs scoring on a play that should have been made by Leody Taveras, but Leiter was in the middle of the plate a lot, and he didn’t full the Detroit hitters. If the 23-year-old makes another start, it will likely come Thursday against Seattle. Rotoworld Today, 1:21 pm

    • Hits go-ahead homer in Game 1
Perez (groin) went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 4-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Perez returned from a Grade 1 left groin strain Wednesday and delivered the key hit in the Royals' matinee win. He also went 0-for-2 with two walks in the nightcap while serving as the designated hitter. He appears good to go moving forward after the injury scare. The veteran catcher is off to a hot start with five homers, 17 RBI, nine runs scored and two doubles while slashing .324/.370/.574 over 18 contests this season. Rotowire.com Today, 10:27 am
    • Cherington: Skenes needs to ‘build up volume’
Pirates RHP prospect Paul Skenes needs more time to build up before the Pirates call him up to the majors, according to general manager Ben Cherington.

Advice: There was speculation that this year’s No. 1 overall pick would get the nod to fill a hole in Pittsburgh’s rotation with Marco Gonzales on the injured list, but the team still wants to give him more reps at the minor league level. Despite the team’s decision, Skenes is dominating at the Triple-A level where he has yet to allow a run in his first three starts. The 21-year-old has struck out 19 batters in his 9 1/3 innings to open the season. “We don’t want to go from zero to 100 right away.,” Pirates GM Ben Cherington said. “Paul’s so important to us long term, so we want to be really thoughtful about that.” Rotoworld Today, 8:04 am
    • Rangers officially call up Jack Leiter
Rangers selected the contract of RHP Jack Leiter from Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: It’s official. The 23-year-old right-hander will get his first major league start against the Tigers on Thursday. Leiter has made three appearances (two starts) at the Triple-A level this season where he’s posted a 4.40 ERA with an impressive 25/3 K/BB ratio. Rotoworld Today, 7:28 am

    • Called up ahead of MLB debut
The Rangers selected Leiter's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

Advice: Leiter is set to start Thursday's game in Detroit in his MLB debut after posting a 3.77 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 25:3 K:BB across 14.1 innings with Round Rock to begin the season. The Rangers are seemingly planning for Leiter to make just one start before heading back to the minors, but he could change minds if he pitches well, particularly with Andrew Heaney's struggles. • Swipes second bag
Altuve went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.

Advice: The veteran second baseman racked up his fifth multi-hit performance over the last seven games, a stretch in which Altuve is batting a blistering .467 (14-for-30). He was hardly cold before that though, and he's failed to collect a hit in only one of his first 20 games. On the season, Altuve is slashing .388/.462/.675 with five homers, two steals, seven RBI and 15 runs scored. Rotowire.com Today, 6:52 am
    • Blows save Wednesday
Robertson gave up a run on two hits and a walk over 1.1 innings Wednesday, getting charged with his second blown save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Tigers. He struck out one.

Advice: The veteran right-hander entered the game with one on and one out in the seventh inning to protect a 4-3 lead, and while he escaped that small jam, Robertson couldn't stop Detroit from tying things up in the bottom of the eighth. It's only the second run he's allowed this season, and the 39-year-old has been busy to begin the year, posting a 1.69 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB through 10.2 innings. Despite those strong ratios, he's 0-for-2 in converting save chances while adding a win and six holds in his 10 appearances, while Kirby Yates seems to be strengthening his grip on the closer role for Texas. • Three hits, homer in win
Soto went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double, two total RBI and a pair of walks in Wednesday's 6-4 comeback victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Soto got the Yankees on the board with a two-out double in the fifth inning, cutting Toronto's lead to 2-1, before smacking a solo homer off Genesis Cabrera in the eighth for the 500th RBI of his career. The 25-year-old Soto has gotten off to a great start in New York -- he's now batting .352 with a 1.055 OPS, four homers and 17 RBI through his first 90 plate appearances this season. • Notches seventh save
Holmes earned the save in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Blue Jays, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: Holmes has yet to allow an earned run through nine appearances this year and he improved to 7-for-8 in save chances, tying Kyle Finnegan and Ryan Helsley for the league lead. The 31-year-old Holmes is establishing himself as one of the better closing options in baseball, earning a firm grasp on the ninth-inning job in New York after pitching to sub-3.00 ERAs in each of his previous two campaigns.
