  • Could be back Wednesday
    Cole (elbow) could be reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Wednesday's game versus the Orioles at Yankee Stadium, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: The Yankees have confirmed Nestor Cortes and Luis Gil as their starting pitchers for games Tuesday and Thursday versus Baltimore, but a starter has yet to be made for Wednesday while the club weighs whether to activate Cole for his season debut, or to have him make another minor-league rehab start. While shifting his assignment from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Cole delivered a gem in his third rehab outing Friday, striking out 10 over 4.1 innings while allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks. He tossed 70 pitches in the start, so Cole would likely have a slight cap on his workload if he were to rejoin the New York rotation Wednesday.   • Roughed up by Mets
    Cease (6-6) took the loss as he went 3.2 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and three walks Sunday versus the Mets.

    Advice: From the jump Cease just didn't have his best stuff on Sunday, he allowed the first four hitters to score after serving up homers to Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso. The 28-year-old gave up a season-high seven runs in what was his shortest outing of the campaign. After pitching to a 2.19 ERA over his first eight starts, the righty has run into a rough patch giving up at least three runs in six of his last seven starts and seeing his ERA climb to 3.95 in the process.   • Max Scherzer expected to join Rangers’ rotation
    Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters on Sunday that as long as Max Scherzer bounces back alright following his minor league rehab start on Saturday, that he’ll join the Rangers’ rotation and make his 2024 regular season debut during the upcoming week.

    Advice: Scherzer threw 79 pitches (55 strikes) over 4 2/3 innings in his final minor league tune-up at Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday — giving up three runs on four hits and a pair of walks while punching out eight batters.   • Picks up second win
    Megill (2-3) pitched five innings to get the win Sunday vs the Padres. He gave up two runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out five.

    Advice: Megill worked around jams in the first and fifth innings to pick up his second win in his last three starts. The 28-year-old righty has struggled getting deep into games, as he's only pitched more than five innings in one of his six starts this season. Despite this, he's been a steadying presence in the Mets rotation with a 3.52 ERA and 1.30 WHIP that he'll carry into his next outing. Rotowire.com Today, 2:16 pm
     
  • Montas allows three in no-decision Sunday
    Frankie Montas allowed three runs in five innings and got a no-decision against the Brewers on Sunday.

    Advice: Montas gave up four hits, walked three and struck out five. He’s won only one of his last 11 starts and has only three quality starts in 13 starts this year. Three years removed from a season with 207 strikeouts and a 3.37 ERA, Montas is just about off the fantasy radar at this point. The 31-year-old right-hander is set to face the Red Sox at home next week.

  • Six strong innings
    Parker (5-3) picked up the win Sunday against Miami, allowing one earned run on six hits and zero walks while striking out four over six innings.

    Advice: Parker's excellent rookie season continued as he turned in another quality start, his fourth over his past six games. During that span, the southpaw has pitched to a 3.03 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and a 25:8 K:BB across 35.2 innings. While Parker doesn't typically post high-strikeout totals, he has been remarkably consistent all season, allowing three earned runs or fewer in all 12 of his starts.   • Dylan Cease chased early against Mets
    Dylan Cease allowed seven earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Mets. He struck out five, walked three, and was tagged with the loss.

    Advice: The Mets jumped all over Cease with a four-run first inning and sent him packing before he could finish four innings. His command was poor overall and he served up meatballs to Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso that found the seats.   • Tylor Megill solid over five innings in win
    Tylor Megill allowed two earned runs across five innings on Sunday against the Padres. He struck out five and walked two en route to his second victory.

    Advice: Megill’s growth over the past few weeks has been nice to watch. Still fastball dominant, Megill has done a great job developing a bevy of passable secondary pitches to supplement his strong heater. He generated at least one whiff on six different pitches Sunday - five of which had exactly one whiff - while mostly staying out of trouble.   • Rea picks up sixth win against Reds Sunday
    Colin Rea allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings and got the win in the Brewers’ 5-4 victory over the Reds on Sunday.

    Advice: Rea gave up four hits, walked one and struck out six. The win was his sixth of the year and he’s now won two starts in a row. Rea made two errors on pickoff throws, which contributed to one of his runs allowed being unearned. Despite his success this year, nothing has really changed from his profile last year when he had a 4.55 ERA for Milwaukee. The 33-year-old right-hander is set to face the Padres on the road next week.
