    • Records fifth steal in loss
Gelof went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in an extra-innings loss to the Rays on Thursday.

Advice: Gelof snapped an 0-for-18 slump with a single, while his steal was his fifth of the season but first since April 21. Last season's encouraging rookie campaign is increasingly in the rearview mirror for Gelof, who's now sitting on a .176 batting average and .512 OPS across 162 plate appearances. A significant season-over-season increase in strikeout rate (27.3 percent to 34.6 percent) and a notable decrease in line-drive rate (25.5 percent to 16.5 percent) have contributed to a steep drop in his BABIP (.331 to .258). • Anthony Volpe aims to extend hitting streak to 22
Anthony Volpe will carry a 21-game hitting streak into Thursday’s series finale against the Angels.

Advice: Volpe can surpass Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte for the longest hitting streak in the majors this season with another knock during Thursday’s series finale in Los Angeles. The 23-year-old shortstop’s offseason overhaul to his swing and offensive approach have resulted in a robust .288 batting average to go along with six homers and 11 stolen bases. He’s recorded at least one hit in 21 straight contests since May 7. He’s a long way from Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game streak, but it’s an interesting wrinkle for fantasy managers to continue monitoring. • IL stint expected to be brief
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that he's optimistic O'Neill's (knee) stay on the 10-day injured list will be a short one, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: O'Neill landed on the IL on Wednesday with right knee inflammation, an injury that he had been playing with for a while. While Cora didn't exactly commit to O'Neill requiring just the minimum 10-day absence, it does not appear he will be out long. He's eligible for activation June 5. Rob Refsnyder appears most likely to soak up the bulk of the playing time at designated hitter while O'Neill is out, although the Red Sox have Connor Wong at DH and Reese McGuire at catcher Thursday versus the Tigers. • Ronald Acuña Jr. to undergo knee surgery Tuesday
Ronald Acuña Jr. will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

Advice: The procedure will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who performed Acuña’s other ACL surgery on his right knee back in 2021. The 26-year-old fantasy superstar There won’t be an official timetable for his return until he undergoes surgery next week as ElAttrache will determine at that time whether he suffered any additional structural damage to his knee, which would keep him sidelined much longer. If it winds up being a straightforward ACL surgery, there’s enough reason for fantasy managers to optimistically project Acuña to be ready for the outset of the 2025 campaign. • Held out of lineup Thursday
Alonso (hand) is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Alonso managed to avoid any fractures after exiting Wednesday's game versus the Dodgers following a hit-by-pitch on the right hand. However, he is dealing with a painful bone bruise that will cause him to miss at least one start. Mark Vientos will handle first base Thursday while Brett Baty covers third base. • Pete Alonso day-to-day with bone bruise in hand
Pete Alonso is day-to-day with a bone bruise in his right hand.

Advice: Hey, that’s one piece of good news for the Mets. Alonso underwent a battery of additional testing and imaging, including a CT scan, X-rays and an MRI, which didn’t reveal any structural damage. The 29-year-old impending free agent may miss a couple of games as he deals with soreness, and some likely inflammation, but it appears he avoided any major injury here and should be back in New York’s lineup relatively soon. Even though he’s not producing at the level you expected when you drafted him, he’s too talented to leave out of your fantasy lineup once he returns. Rotoworld Thursday, 9:46 am

    • CT scan confirms no fracture
Alonso is day-to-day after a CT scan confirmed he didn't suffer a fracture when he was hit by a pitch in the right hand during Wednesday's 10-3 loss to the Dodgers, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.

Advice: X-rays and now a CT scan have both come back negative, as Alonso has managed to avoid a serious injury and is dealing with a bone bruise to his right hand. It's possible he'll still miss a game or two if he remains sore, but the veteran first baseman looks poised to avoid a stint on the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:05 am

    • Homer, stolen base in win
Schwarber went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, an additional RBI, a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-1 victory over the Giants.

Advice: He got the Phillies started with an opposite-field homer off Kyle Harrison to lead off the first inning. Schwarber drove in a second run with a base hit in the eighth, extending Philadelphia's lead to 5-0. It's the third straight two-hit game for Schwarber -- he's gone 6-for-12 with two homers, four RBI and two steals in that span. He's boosted his slash line to .246/.369/.425 with 11 homers, 35 RBI and 43 runs scored across 55 games while going 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts this season. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:15 am

    • Hangs on for 16th save
Holmes picked up the save over the Angels on Wednesday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning while allowing one hit and one walk.

Advice: Holmes entered the contest with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and surrendered a single and a walk in the first two at-bats before getting Willie Calhoun to ground into a double play. The reliever was then able to retire Logan O'Hoppe on just two pitches to record his 16th save of the season, which ties him with Robert Suarez for third in the major leagues. Holmes has now allowed multiple baserunners in four of his last five appearances and hasn't recorded a strikeout in either of his last two outings. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:31 am
