    • Clay Holmes locks down 16th save Wednesday
Clay Holmes pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record a save against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Holmes was called on in the ninth to close it out with a one-run lead over the Angels. He started the inning with a single and a walk before getting two outs on a ground ball double play. Holmes then got Logan O’Hoppe to ground out to end the game with his 16th save. • Headed for MRI
Manoah will receive an MRI on his right elbow Thursday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Manoah allowed one hit and struck out three batters in 1.2 innings Wednesday versus the White Sox before right elbow discomfort forced him out of the game early. The Blue Jays will wait for the results of his MRI before making any decisions, but there is a chance the 26-year-old righty will require a trip to the injured list. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:42 pm

    • Alek Manoah (elbow) set to undergo MRI on Thursday
Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider told reporters after Wednesday’s game that Alek Manoah will undergo an MRI exam on his injured right elbow on Thursday.

Advice: Manoah suffered the injury during the second inning of his start against the White Sox on Wednesday. The 26-year-old hurler has pitched well in his five starts for the Jays this season, compiling a 3.70 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 26/8 K/BB ratio across 24 1/3 innings. Expect the Jays to provide another update on his status — and perhaps a timeline for his return — after Thursday’s exam. All fantasy managers can do in the meantime is hope for the best. • Pete Fairbanks nabs win
Pete Fairbanks got the victory for the Rays with a scoreless ninth inning before they walked it off in the bottom half. He allowed one hit.

Advice: Fairbanks was bailed out by Jose Siri, who saved a run with a great catch in center field before delivering the game winning hit to grab Fairbanks the victory. This was his second straight outing without a punch out. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:57 pm
    • Alek Manoah leaves start with right elbow issue
Alek Manoah was pulled from Wednesday’s start against the White Sox due to discomfort in his right elbow.

Advice: Ugh, that’s never what you want to hear. The 26-year-old hurler had been pitching well too — allowing just one hit and striking out three batters over his first 1 2/3 innings. He’ll head for additional tests and imaging to determine the severity of the issue, but you would have to think that a trip to the injured list is coming. It’s a tough break for someone who worked so hard to claw his way back to the Blue Jays’ rotation. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:03 pm

    • Exits with trainer
Manoah was removed from Wednesday's game against the White Sox in the second inning due right elbow discomfort.

Advice: The severity of Manoah's injury isn't immediately apparent, but it was enough to warrant his removal after recording just five outs Wednesday. He is tentatively scheduled to pitch again Tuesday against the Orioles, though a clearer picture of his status for that game will come once the Jays are able to take a closer look at him. • X-rays negative
X-rays on Alonso's right hand came back negative Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Mets won't be able to confirm whether or not Alonso avoided a fracture until the results of his CT scan come back Thursday, but a clean X-ray is certainly an encouraging sign. The 29-year-old remains day-to-day after getting hit in the hand by a 93-mph fastball during Wednesday's contest. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:02 pm

    • Kyle Schwarber orders combo meal in Phillies’ win
Kyle Schwarber walloped a leadoff homer and also stole a base on Wednesday, propelling the Phillies to a 6-1 victory over the Giants.

Advice: Schwarber delivered a tone-setting blast to left-center field right out of the gate against Giants starter Kyle Harrison before reaching on a fielder’s choice and stealing second base a couple frames later. The 31-year-old slugger also added an RBI single in the eighth inning as well to put the cherry on top of a multi-hit performance at Oracle Park, which is one of the toughest ballparks in the league for left-handed batters. • Red Sox place Tyler O’Neill (knee) on IL
Red Sox placed OF Tyler O’Neill on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 26, with right knee inflammation.

Advice: The Red Sox were hopeful that the 28-year-old slugger wouldn’t require a stint on the injured list, but they still believe that it’ll be a short stay there and he’ll be ready to return as soon as he’s eligible. Perhaps a few days off to clear his head will help his recent struggles at the dish as well. Enmanuel Valdez was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move on Wednesday.
