    General manager Justin Hollander said Friday that Crawford (oblique) likely won't be activated from the injured list when he's eligible May 5, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Crawford was placed on the injured list Thursday with a Grade 1 oblique strain -- the least severe type of strain -- though it appears the 29-year-old shortstop is still facing an extended absence.     Mariners’ general manager Justin Hollander told reporters on Friday that he expects J.P. Crawford (oblique) to miss at least two or three weeks in a best case scenario.

    Advice: Crawford landed on the injured list on Thursday with a right oblique strain. It’s not surprising news, so oblique strains can tend to linger if they aren’t allowed to fully heal, so the Mariners’ will do the prudent thing here and proceed cautiously.     Padres recalled RHP Jeremiah Estrada from Triple-A El Paso.

    Advice: For a few days at least, Estrada will add a fresh arm to the Padres’ bullpen as the team determines how they would like to handle the rotation spot vacated by Randy Vasquez.     Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander struggled in his second start against the Rockies on Thursday, giving up four runs over 2 2/3 innings of work. That brought him to an uninspiring 5.87 ERA over 7 2/3 innings through his first two outings.   • Junior Caminero (quad) considered day-to-day
    Morgan Ensberg, the manager at Triple-A Durham, told reporters on Friday that top prospect Junior Caminero is considered day-to-day after tweaking his quad on Thursday.

    Advice: Caminero was lifted from Thursday’s game in the third inning after sustaining the injury. Ensberg explained that he wasn’t going to put Caminero in any jeopardy, so he pulled him as a precaution. The 20-year-old phenom ran and did defensive work without issue on Friday but was getting another night off just to be on the safe side.   • John Means to make another rehab start on Sunday
    John Means (elbow) is scheduled to make his next minor league rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A Norfolk.

    Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw gave up three runs over 4 1/3 innings his last time out on Tuesday, racking up five strikeouts and throwing a total of 79 pitches (53 strikes).     Pirates recalled RHP Kyle Nicolas from Triple-A Indianapolis.

    Advice: He’ll replace Ryder Ryan in the Pirates’ bullpen after Ryan was optioned out following Thursday’s game. The 25-year-old hurler was off to a brilliant start at Triple-A, registering a minuscule 0.84 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 13/9 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings in his nine appearances.
