    Advice: Alvarez stumbled while rounding first base during the top of the second inning and appeared to jam his left thumb while trying to regain his footing. He remained in the game to run the bases and eventually came around to score, but he was replaced behind the dish by Omar Narvaez once the Mets' defense took the field.   • Clay Holmes escapes with save on Friday night
    Clay Holmes walked the tightrope in the ninth inning on Friday night, but managed to slam the door on the Rays to protect a two-run lead and earn his eighth save of the season.

    Advice: Holmes started his frame by allowing back-to-back singles to Ben Rortvedt and Yandy Diaz to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. He then got Randy Arozarena to hit into a strange fielder’s choice where the umpire had ruled that Aaron Judge caught his pop fly in the outfield, which led Rortvedt to head back to second base — and he was ultimately thrown out at third as the ball dropped in. Holmes then got Richie Palacios to line into a game-ending double play to escape with the lead intact.     DJ LeMahieu said team doctors don’t feel comfortable having him start a rehab assignment this week following an MRI on Thursday.

    Advice: Well this sounds a bit ominous. The 35-year-old was slated to begin a rehab assignment this week, but now will stay sidelined until the team feels he’s ready for live action. Yankees manager Aaron Boone added that the team is targeting next Tuesday as a date for him to begin his rehab assignment.
