    • Sonny Gray fans nine in defeating Pirates
Sonny Gray pitched seven innings of one-run ball and struck out nine Wednesday against the Pirates.

Advice: Coming off a down stretch that saw him post a 5.46 ERA in his previous six starts, Gray tonight turned in his first quality start since May 3. He’s now 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA overall. He’s somehow received decisions in all of his starts to date, and he’s the only pitcher qualified for the ERA title who can say that. So far this year, starters have qualified for a decision in 62% of their starts, getting the win 29% of the time and the loss 33% of the time. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:21 pm

    • Cleared to start Sunday
Lively (undisclosed) is listed as the Guardians' probable starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Advice: Lively experienced some unspecified tightness during his most recent start in Miami on Saturday, when he tossed five shutout innings prior to being lifted. The issue won't result in Lively's turn being skipped, but he'll be pushed back in the schedule and given a full week off before stepping back into the rotation. After joining the Guardians this offseason on a modest one-year, $750,000 contract, Lively has been a valuable piece of the Cleveland rotation in 2024, going 6-2 with a 2.59 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 55.2 innings across 10 starts. • Should make next start
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Tuesday that Lively (undisclosed) has checked out fine and is expected to make his next turn through the rotation, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 32-year-old experienced some unspecified tightness during his start in Miami over the weekend, which resulted in him being lifted after five scoreless innings. Lively hasn't had any issues over the past couple days, putting him on track to start this weekend in Toronto. Cleveland should confirm its pitching plans later in the week. • Vogt: Ben Lively to make next scheduled start
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt told reporters Ben Lively (undisclosed) is on track to make his next start.

Advice: Lively went back to Cleveland over the weekend to undergo additional testing for an undisclosed injury. The 32-year-old journeyman appears to have checked out fine and will presumably take the ball on Saturday against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:06 pm

    • Strikes out four in loss
Berrios (5-5) took the loss to the Brewers on Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Berrios surrendered solo home runs to Jackson Chourio and Willy Adames in the third and fourth innings then allowed another run on a sacrifice fly by Adames in the sixth. Berrios was bidding for his sixth straight quality start but labored through the sixth and left the game with two outs after throwing 105 pitches in the contest. Despite faltering late, Berrios has now logged a quality start in 11 of 14 outings and owns a 2.93 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 64:22 K:BB this season. He lines up for his second start of the week against the Guardians on Sunday. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:12 pm

    • Berrios allows three runs in loss Monday
Jose Berrios allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: Berrios gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four. Two of the five hits he allowed were home runs to Jackson Chourio and Willy Adames. Berrios has a 2.93 ERA on the season, but his xFIP is 4.09. His 88 percent left on base percentage is a giant red flag. It’s unlikely Berrios will continue to be able to get by with an 18 percent strikeout percentage while allowing 1.36 HR/9. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Guardians at home this weekend.

    • Gets checked for undisclosed injury
Lively returned to Cleveland on Monday to undergo further medical exams for an undisclosed injury, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: The injury presumably stems from Lively's most recent start in Miami on Saturday, when he was lifted from the game after throwing 65 pitches over five shutout innings. Per the Associated Press, manager Stephen Vogt said that Lively experienced some tightness after sitting for an extended period in the top of the fifth inning, when the Guardians erupted for six runs. Vogt didn't expound any further beyond that, but the fact that Lively temporarily left the Guardians to get examined more closely suggests that his early exit wasn't merely precautionary. The Guardians have off days Monday and Thursday and can get by with a shortened rotation for a bit if they choose, so Lively may not be in line to pitch during this weekend's series in Toronto even if he doesn't require a stay on the injured list. Lively has been a pleasant surprise for the Guardians and fantasy managers alike, as he's won each of his last five starts while ringing up a 2.54 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 28.1 innings. • Matt Waldron holds D-Backs to one run over six
Matt Waldron allowed just one run in six innings to get a victory Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Waldron didn’t have to be at his best with the Padres giving 13 runs of support, but he was pretty close to it. He allowed just three hits over his six innings, and he fanned four while issuing two walks. Since his struggles against the D-Backs on May 5, Waldron has been outstanding, and his ERA has lowered from 5.82 to 3.76 in that timeframe. Another chance to lower that mark comes over the weekend against the Mets. Rotoworld Saturday, 10:08 pm
    • Ben Lively blanks Marlins over five innings in win
Ben Lively didn’t allow a run over five innings to pick up a win over the Marlins on Saturday.

Advice: Lively only struck out one, but he was still able to keep the Marlins off the board by allowing only three hits. The only extra-base hit allowed was a double to Vidal Bruján, and outside of that it was smooth sailing for the 32-year-old. Lively now has a 6-2 record and 2.59 ERA, which absolutely everyone was predicting before the season started. The Blue Jays are scheduled for next week. Rotoworld Saturday, 9:59 pm
