    • Notches save Wednesday
Kimbrel earned a save against the Guardians on Wednesday, walking one batter and striking out three in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: Kimbrel issued a two-out walk but otherwise overpowered Cleveland with three punchouts. The veteran closer rebounded well after blowing a save against the Yankees during his previous trip to the mound. Kimbrel is 17-for-21 in save chances on the season and has registered an elite 13.3 K/9 while posted a 2.54 ERA and 0.99 WHIP across 28.1 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:56 pm
    • Craig Kimbrel earns 17th save
Craig Kimbrel struck out the side and walked one batter on Wednesday to nail down the save against the Guardians.

Advice: Kimbrel continues to drink from the fountain of youth. His 17th save snapped the Orioles’ losing streak and he has his highest strikeout rate since 2021. He is locked in as the closer in Baltimore. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:12 pm
    • Heading to bench Wednesday
Fry is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: After leaving Sunday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays earlier due to elbow inflammation, Fry returned to the lineup as a designated hitter for both of the Guardians' first two games in Baltimore, going 2-for-8 with two doubles and an RBI. The Guardians haven't indicated that Fry is dealing with a setback with the elbow, so his absence from the lineup Wednesday is likely just a pre-planned maintenance day. • Held out against righty again
Cowser is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: Cowser belted his 10th home run of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Guardians, but he nonetheless finds himself on the bench for the second time during the three-game series. Both of those absences came against right-handed pitchers, so the lefty-hitting Cowser could be in danger of losing out on a regular spot in the outfield to fellow lefty hitter Heston Kjerstad, who will make his second start of the series following his call-up from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday. • Colton Cowser sits against Guardians on Wednesday
Even though he homered Tuesday, Colton Cowser is on the bench in favor of Heston Kjerstad on Wednesday.

Advice: This hardly seems fair to Cowser. A left-handed hitter, he’s now been on the bench the last two times the Orioles have faced a righty and started both games against lefties, even though he has perfectly normal splits (.769 OPS versus righties, .679 OPS against lefties). If the Orioles keep using him like this, there’s a good chance they’ll eventually have a better excuse for sending him down. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:32 pm

    • Gets green light to start Friday
Scherzer (thumb) is listed as the Rangers' probable starting pitcher for Friday's game in Baltimore, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Scherzer returned from the 60-day injured list to make his 2024 debut for the big club this past Sunday and was in vintage form in a win over the Royals, tossing five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out four. Though he experienced no setbacks in his return from offseason back surgery nor the nerve problem in his right arm that cropped up in late April, Scherzer was pulled earlier than expected from Sunday's outing due to thumb soreness. Per McFarland, Scherzer was able to complete a 25-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, and while the right-hander acknowledged he was still contending with some soreness in the thumb, it doesn't look as though it'll prevent him from making his second start of the season this weekend. • Will Benson left out of lineup against right-hander
Will Benson is out of the lineup against a right-hander for the first time this season Wednesday against the Pirates.

Advice: We’re not sure yet if this is strictly performance related or if it has something to do with the bruised elbow he suffered when he was hit by a pitch Sunday; he left that game due to the injury, but he was able to play last night. Benson is currently in an 0-for-25 slump that’s dropped his season line to .188/.282/.372. With Benson absent, Liván Soto is making his Reds debut as a DH today. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:14 am
    • Sitting out Wednesday
Benson is absent from the lineup for Wednesday contest versus the Pirates.

Advice: Benson will get a rare day off against a right-hander while the Pirates send Luis Ortiz to the hill in the series finale. Nick Martini, Stuart Fairchild and Jake Fraley will form the Cincinnati outfield from left to right. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:47 am
    • Snaps out of slump
Gonzales went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Tuesday against the Reds.

Advice: Gonzales was in a cold spell entering Tuesday's contest, as he had gone just 1-for-23 with eight strikeouts across his past seven games. He snapped out of that slump with his second three-hit performance of the season. Despite the recent downturn, Gonzales has enjoyed his most sustained success in the majors, maintaining a .282 average and .755 OPS across 161 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:20 am
