    • Braxton Garrett pummeled in loss to Rays
Braxton Garrett was pummeled in Wednesday’s loss to the Rays, giving up five runs on six hits across his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 26-year-old southpaw punched out three batters on the night while issuing one free pass. The Rays jumped on him for three runs in the opening inning on RBI doubles by Isaac Paredes and Josh Lowe. They then pushed across another pair while chasing Garrett in the third inning. He got nine swings and misses on just 53 pitches in the ballgame — five on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. He’ll attempt to improve upon his uninspiring 5.81 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 24/4 K/BB ratio (26 1/3 innings) when he takes on the Mets in New York on Wednesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:03 pm

    • Royals-Guardians postponed
Singer and the Royals won't play the Guardians on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland.

Advice: The Royals and Guardians will make up the postponed game as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 26 After missing his previous turn through the rotation last Thursday due to an illness, Singer was cleared to start Wednesday, but he looks like he'll have to wait until Thursday's series finale with the Guardians to make his return to the rotation. • Recent struggles continue
Ober (5-4) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on three hits, including a home run, and four walks over five innings against the Yankees. He struck out two.

Advice: Ober wasn't sharp against a Yankees lineup that is on a roll. The outing continued his recent struggles, as he has a 7.58 ERA with a 15:8 K:BB in his last 19 innings. Ober hasn't thrown more than five innings in any of his last four starts, making him a risky option in his next start, which lines up to come this weekend in Pittsburgh. • Another strong outing
Sanchez allowed one run on four hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Tuesday. He struck out three.

Advice: Sanchez has now held opponents to two runs or fewer in five of his past six outings and one or fewer in seven of his last 10. The left-hander's ERA is down to 2.71 on the year with a 1.34 WHIP and 59:21 K:BB across 12 starts (66.1 innings). Sanchez is currently lined up for a road matchup with the Red Sox next week in his next outing. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:42 pm
    • Cristopher Sánchez spins six frames in no-decision
Cristopher Sánchez allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Brewers.

Advice: Sánchez gave up only four hits with a third-inning ground out from Andruw Monasterio representing the lone tally against him in this one. He struck out three and only issued one walk. The 27-year-old lefty has been a model of consistency this season, allowing three earned runs or fewer in 11 of his 12 starts so far. He’ll bring a strong 2.71 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 59/21 K/BB ratio across 66 1/3 innings (12 starts) into a road matchup next Wednesday against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:08 pm
    • Bailey Ober struggles in loss to Yankees
Bailey Ober gave up three runs over five innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Ober was tagged for just three hits over five frames, but a solo homer from Gleyber Torres and two-run double by Aaron Judge were enough to saddle him with a loss in a matchup against Yankees emerging start Luis Gil. He finished with a pair of strikeouts and also issued four walks. He’ll bring a pedestrian 4.94 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 60/16 K/BB ratio across 62 innings (12 starts) into a road matchup on Sunday against the Pirates. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:40 pm

    • Lands on IL with flexor strain
The Nationals placed Williams on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right flexor strain, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Williams had been slated to start Tuesday's game against the Mets but now will be sidelined for at least two weeks, and quite likely longer. The veteran right-hander has been a pleasant surprise for the Nationals this season, collecting a 2.22 ERA in 11 starts. DJ Herz was called up from Triple-A Rochester and will start Tuesday in Williams' stead. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:10 am

    • Nats put Trevor Williams on IL with flexor strain
Nationals placed RHP Trevor Williams on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain.

Advice: Williams will be out for at least two weeks with the injury, but there’s no timetable for his return yet as the injury occurred sometime after his start against Atlanta on Thursday. Washington has recalled DJ Herz to make the start against the Mets on Tuesday in Williams’ place. There should be further updates on the 32-year-old’s status in the coming days. • Cleared for throwing
Gallen (hamstring) will begin a throwing progression Tuesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Gallen appears to have his sights set on returning from the injured list when first eligible after being diagnosed with a right hamstring strain Friday. This will be a strong first step toward meeting that goal, and he should be cleared to resume mound work quickly considering he last threw off a mound Thursday. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:26 pm
