• Recalled to majors
The Marlins recalled Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Advice: Pereda has slashed .275/.398/.406 across 83 plate appearances in the minors this season, and he will now come up from Triple-A to give the Marlins additional depth behind the plate while Christian Bethancourt (bereavement) is out. Pereda went 0-for-5 in three games during his first stint in the majors in April. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago
  • Luis Robert Jr. goes 0-for-5 on Friday at Triple-A
Luis Robert Jr. (hip) went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts on Friday in a minor league rehab contest for Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: Robert has gone 1-for-12 with a home run in three games for Triple-A Charlotte on his rehab assignment. There’s optimism that he’ll be ready to return early next week, but he’s going to get a couple more minor-league games under his belt this weekend to continue knocking off the rust. • Edouard Julien goes 0-for-2, gets lifted
Edouard Julien was lifted for a pinch-hitter after going 0-for-2 against the Astros on Friday.

Advice: A demotion to Triple-A for Julien is very much a possibility as the countermove for when Royce Lewis rejoins the Twins. He’s still very likely Minnesota’s long-term second baseman, but he’s not currently getting the job done while hitting .205/.305/.367. Willi Castro could slide to second in his place. • Chas McCormick strikes out three times
Chas McCormick fanned all three times he was up Friday versus the Twins.

Advice: The Astros have decided that José Abreu’s pre-2023 track record matters more than McCormick’s impressive 2023 output and have thus started McCormick just twice in the last six games. We think that’s probably the wrong call, but at the same time, McCormick has not, in any way, resembled the threat he was last year. We still think the Astros should give him a few weeks of regular playing time to see if he can bounce back, but we’re not especially optimistic that he would take advantage of said opportunity. • Set for surgery Tuesday
Lee (shoulder) will undergo surgery Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: The procedure will address the torn labrum in Lee's left shoulder, which he sustained May 12 against the Reds. Before the injury, Lee was slashing .262/.310/.331 with two home runs and eight RBI over 145 plate appearances. He should be ready to go for the start of the 2025 season. • Luis Robert Jr. (hip) expected to return next week
Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun Times believes that Luis Robert Jr. (hip) will return to the White Sox’ lineup on Tuesday.

Advice: The 26-year-old superstar is currently on a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte, where he received a planned day off on Thursday. He’ll remain there through the weekend, and if all goes well, he’ll join the White Sox in Chicago for their battle against the Cubs starting on Tuesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:23 pm

  • Absence continuing Friday
Westburg (hand) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: The 24-year-old will miss a second straight game after being hit by a pitch on the right hand Tuesday against the Red Sox. Westburg had X-rays come back negative and should be considered day-to-day. Ramon Urias is starting at the hot corner Friday for Baltimore. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:52 pm

  • Westburg out of lineup for second straight game
Jordan Westburg (hand) is out of the Orioles’ lineup for Friday’s game against the Rays.

Advice: Westburg is out of the lineup for the second straight game. He was hit on the right hand by a pitch on Tuesday, missed Wednesday’s game and the Orioles were idle on Thursday. Westburg is yet to be placed on the injured list and X-Rays on his hand came back negative. His next chance to get in the starting lineup will come on Saturday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:47 pm

  • Sitting Thursday
McCormick isn't in the Astros' lineup for Thursday's game against Seattle, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: McCormick had sat out three games in a row before returning to Houston's lineup Wednesday, but an 0-for-4 performance will put him back on the bench for Thursday's series finale. Yordan Alvarez, Jake Meyers and Mauricio Dubon will start across the outfield while McCormick sits. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:37 am
