    • Logan Webb makes swift work of D-backs in win
Logan Webb fired seven shutout innings on Thursday in a win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Webb retired a career-high 19 consecutive batters following back-to-back singles from Ketel Marte and Corbin Carroll, respectively, to open the contest before issuing a one-out walk to Christian Walker in the seventh inning. The 27-year-old workhorse, who finished with five strikeouts and only issued one walk, completed seven frames for the third consecutive start in this one. He’ll bring a sparkling 2.93 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 22/6 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings (five starts) into another home outing on Tuesday against the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:57 pm
    • Short outing vs. Rangers
Maeda did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Rangers, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: It was a tough day for Maeda against a potent Texas offense -- the right-hander gave up five runs on three homers before departing in the third inning. Maeda's ERA is up to 7.64 while allowing a league-most seven home runs across his first four starts (17,2 innings). He'll look to get on track in his next outing, currently slated for early next week in Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:14 pm
    • Kenta Maeda allows three homers against Rangers
Kenta Maeda allowed six runs — five earned — over 2 2/3 innings of work while not factoring into the decision against the Rangers on Thursday.

Advice: The long-ball was the biggest issue for Maeda on Thursday, as he allowed three homers to the powerful Texas lineup before leaving. The right-hander also walked two with three strikeouts in a start that can best be described as ineffective to be nice. Maeda will get a chance to rebound against the Rays on Tuesday. • Notches fourth steal
Witt went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in a 4-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Witt also went 1-for-4 in the nightcap. He's hit safely in five of the last seven games, batting .333 (10-for-30) in that span. The shortstop is off to another strong start in 2024 with a .321/.369/.628 slash line, four home runs, four steals, eight RBI, 18 runs scored, six doubles and three triples across 84 plate appearances. He's also striking out at a 22.6 percent clip, a bit higher than the 17.4 percent mark he had last year, but that's a fair trade-off for more contact. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:35 am
    • Set for bullpen session Saturday
Pivetta (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Pivetta will play catch from 120 feet Thursday, and if all goes well, he'll take a big step forward in his recovery from a right elbow strain by getting back on the mound this weekend. The right-hander will likely need to complete multiple bullpen sessions before he's cleared to face hitters in live batting practice. After that, Pivetta will likely require a brief minor-league rehab assignment to get stretched back out, so he could be hard pressed to make it back from the injured list in the minimum 15 days. A return in the first or second week of May could be realistic, provided Pivetta avoids any setbacks while ramping back up. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:11 am

    • Not on mound yet
Pivetta (elbow) continues to play catch but hasn't yet advanced to mound work, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Pivetta was placed on the 15-day injured list and is first eligible to return Sunday, but he's not yet ready to help a Red Sox rotation that has been hit by the injury bug of late, as Garrett Whitlock (oblique) joined him on the IL this week. It's likely Pivetta will need at least one rehab start before rejoining the club. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:15 am

    • Sitting in second straight
Yoshida is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Guardians, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Yoshida now finds himself out of the lineup for the second day in a row, with both absences coming against right-handed pitchers. While the Red Sox haven't indicated that Yoshida is dealing with an injury, the consecutive absences as Boston has played shorthanded in Cleveland with both Tyler O'Neill (forehead) and Rafael Devers (knee) missing time suggests the 30-year-old might be banged up to some degree. Even if the Red Sox don't provide an update on Yoshida following Thursday's game, fantasy managers will still want to keep tabs on his status heading into this weekend's series in Pittsburgh. • Blows save, takes loss
Fairbanks (0-2) blew the save and took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over one inning against the Angels. He didn't generate a strikeout.

Advice: Fairbanks entered the ninth frame with a one-run advantage but was unable to come away with his fourth save of the campaign. Instead, he surrendered a pair of runs before ultimately stranding a pair of Angels in scoring position by getting Logan O'Hoppe to fly out and end the inning. Fairbanks has endured a shaky start to 2024, having given up a run in five of his eight appearances. However, Wednesday's outing marked his first blown save of the season. • Pete Fairbanks blows save, takes loss vs. Angels
Pete Fairbanks allowed two runs in the ninth inning to blow the save and take the loss against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Fairbanks was summoned in the ninth with a one-run lead to close it out. He allowed two runs to score on three base hits and two walks before getting out of the inning. The Angels would secure the win in the bottom of the frame, charging Fairbanks with his second loss of the season. The 30-year-old right-hander had converted all three of his previous save chances. He’ll have some work to do to lower his 9.00 ERA over seven innings of work. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:41 pm
