    • Crushes first homer of season
Guerrero went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Rays on Opening Day.

Advice: The 25-year-old slugger demolished a Zach Eflin cutter in the sixth inning, sending it 450 feet over the batter's eye in center field. Guerrero has seen his numbers decline the last two seasons after a monster 2021 campaign in which he produced 48 homers, 111 RBI and a 1.002 OPS, and his ability to rebound to something closer to that level of performance will be crucial to the Blue Jays' fortunes in 2024. • Placed on IL
The Red Sox placed Grissom (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: The transaction is retroactive to Monday, but Grissom won't be ready to come off the IL once his 10 days are up since he still needs more time to build back up after missing extended time in spring training due to the right hamstring strain as well as a groin injury. According to MLB.com, manager Alex Cora said Sunday that Grissom is about 7-to-10 days away from seeing game action in any form, so the infielder could be ready to head out on a rehab assignment in the minors at some point next week. • Slated for simulated game Friday
Gray (hamstring) will throw a simulated game at the Cardinals' spring training complex Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: It's the next step as the right-hander continues to work his way back from a right hamstring strain. Among the hitters Gray will face in the sim game will be fellow rehabber Lars Nootbaar (ribs). Gray might be ready for a minor-league rehab game next week if things go well Friday, although that has not been confirmed. The hope remains that he could need only a minimum stay on the injured list, which would mean a return on April 9. Rotowire.com Today, 7:08 am

    • Cruises to Opening Day victory
Gallen (1-0) earned the win over Colorado on Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three batters over five innings.

Advice: Gallen notched just three punchouts in the win, though he did rack up a healthy 15 swinging strikes. He didn't face much stress in the outing, as Arizona put up 14 runs in the third frame to turn the contest into a laugher. The right-hander posted a career-high 17 wins last season for a Diamondbacks team that surprised by reaching the World Series, and he remains the team's ace despite the recent signing of Jordan Montgomery. If history is any indication, Gallen should see his strikeout numbers trend up as the season rolls along -- he's never posted a K/9 below 9.4 in any of his five MLB campaigns. • Clubs long ball on Opening Day
Haniger went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two total runs and two total RBI in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Haniger drilled a two-run homer to right field in the fourth inning for Seattle's first runs of the campaign. It was a promising start to the season for the 33-year-old, who is coming off a pair of injury-plagued campaigns. The last time Haniger made it through a full season mostly healthy was 2021, when he slugged 39 homers and notched 100 RBI over 157 games. That makes him a somewhat alluring option in fantasy, though the health concerns present a significant drawback. Rotowire.com Today, 12:04 am
    • Zac Gallen allows one over five in win over Rockies
Zac Gallen held the Rockies to one run over five innings to pick up a win Thursday.

Advice: He allowed three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. It was not a particularly efficient outing from Gallen, as he needed 90 pitches to get through the five frames and qualify for the victory. He could have been far less effective and still come away with the win, as the Diamondbacks shellacked the Colorado pitching staff for 16 runs in a complete obliteration. Gallen will have a chance for his second victory Tuesday when he and the Diamondbacks face off against the Yankees. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:35 pm

    • Goes six innings in opener
Eovaldi didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings versus the Cubs. He struck out three.

Advice: Eovaldi was efficient Thursday, needing just 88 pitches to get through six innings, recording a quality start in the season opener. The 34-year-old right-hander went 12-5 last season with a 3.63 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 132:47 K:BB across 25 starts. The Rangers will rely on Eovaldi to anchor their rotation with Max Scherzer (back) and Jacob DeGrom (elbow) both out until at least midseason. Eovaldi's tentatively lined up for a road start next week in Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:33 pm
    • Mitch Haniger homers in return to Seattle
Mitch Haniger hit a two-run homer while going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in a loss Thursday to the Red Sox.

Advice: Haniger got the Mariners back in the game with a two-run homer off Brayan Bello in the fifth inning. He also drew a walk in the ninth off Kenley Jansen, but he was left stranded to spoil his return to the Seattle lineup. Haniger struggled mightily in 2023 and has dealt with a plethora of injury issues throughout his career, but when he has been healthy, he’s been an effective offensive weapon. The question is whether or not he can stay upright for long enough to provide fantasy relevance. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:24 pm
    • Drives in four
Santander went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI on Thursday against the Angels.

Advice: Santander drove in Baltimore's first run of the season on a fielder's choice in the first inning. However, he did his biggest damage three frames later, when he took Jose Suarez yard for a two-run homer -- his first of the season. Santander has hit at least 28 home runs in each of the last two campaigns and should remain an excellent source of counting stats in 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:39 pm
