    • Clarke Schmidt lands on IL with right lat strain
Yankees placed RHP Clarke Schmidt on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 27, with a right lat strain.

Advice: Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Schmidt will be shut down from throwing for the next 4-6 weeks, which likely knocks him out until sometime after the All-Star break. Schmidt was slated to take the ball on Saturday against the Giants, so New York will have to dip into their organizational depth to fill the void. The 28-year-old righty will press pause on an impressive breakthrough campaign as he’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his 11 starts this season, recording a stellar 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67/20 K/BB ratio across 60 2/3 innings of work. It’s a significant loss for the Yankees, and fantasy managers as well. There should be a clearer timetable for his return once he’s cleared to resume throwing in a few weeks. • Allows one run in no-decision
Verlander did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out nine.

Advice: Verlander got off to a great start, hurling 1-2-3 innings in three of the first four frames before surrendering a solo homer to Dominic Canzone in the fifth. The veteran right-hander would only allow a walk from that point on and managed to go seven innings for the third time in his last six starts. Verlander also matched his season high with nine strikeouts, which he also recorded in his previous start against the Athletics. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:12 am

    • Hangs on for 16th save
Holmes picked up the save over the Angels on Wednesday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning while allowing one hit and one walk.

Advice: Holmes entered the contest with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and surrendered a single and a walk in the first two at-bats before getting Willie Calhoun to ground into a double play. The reliever was then able to retire Logan O'Hoppe on just two pitches to record his 16th save of the season, which ties him with Robert Suarez for third in the major leagues. Holmes has now allowed multiple baserunners in four of his last five appearances and hasn't recorded a strikeout in either of his last two outings. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:31 am

    • Justin Verlander strikes out nine in no-decision
Justin Verlander allowed one run with nine strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Verlander scattered three hits and one walk, striking out nine batters for the second consecutive start. The only run the Mariners would score on him came on a solo homer by Dominic Canzone in the fifth inning. The 41-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.26 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 44/15 K/BB ratio across 47 innings. He’ll take on the Cardinals in Houston on Monday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:24 pm

    • Clay Holmes locks down 16th save Wednesday
Clay Holmes pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record a save against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Holmes was called on in the ninth to close it out with a one-run lead over the Angels. He started the inning with a single and a walk before getting two outs on a ground ball double play. Holmes then got Logan O’Hoppe to ground out to end the game with his 16th save. • Limited workload Wednesday
Paxton came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 10-3 win over the Mets, giving up two hits over three scoreless innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Advice: The veteran lefty was pitching on just four days' rest, and per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register, was told prior to the outing that his workload would be limited. Paxton wound up tossing exactly 50 pitches (29 strikes), as the Dodgers effectively went with a bullpen day and used six relievers after he left the mound. Paxton will take a 3.29 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 31:28 K:BB through 52 innings into his next outing -- when he should see a more usual workload in a road start against the Pirates. • Big Maple spins three frames in abbreviated outing
James Paxton tallied three strikeouts over three shutout innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Mets.

Advice: It was an abbreviated outing for Paxton on Wednesday afternoon at Citi Field as the veteran lefty took the ball on four days rest for the first time this season and was lifted after just 50 pitches (29 strikes). The 35-year-old veteran southpaw will take the ball next Wednesday against the Pirates at PNC Park. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:27 pm

    • Dazzles in no-decision
Megill came away with a no-decision in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, allowing three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: The Mets wound up getting swept in the twin bill, but that was no fault of Megill's. The right-hander generated 32 called or swinging strikes among his 98 pitches in his best performance of the season, and he left the mound with the Mets ahead 2-0 only to watch the bullpen blow the lead and lose the game in 10 innings. Megill has an impressive 16:3 K:BB through 12 innings since returning from a shoulder strain, and he'll look for his first win of 2024 when he makes his next start, which is likely to come at home this weekend against the Diamondbacks. • Fans eight in quality start
Glasnow came away with a no-decision in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Mets, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: The right-hander produced his eighth quality start of the season while fanning at least eight batters for the sixth time in his last seven trips to the mound, but Glasnow exited the game in line for the loss before the Dodgers rallied late and eventually won it in the 10th inning. Glasnow will take a 3.04 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 95:21 K:BB through 74 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come early next week in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:29 am
