    • Jose Altuve goes deep in Astros’ loss to Cubs
Jose Altuve belted a solo homer on Wednesday in the Astros’ loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Altuve took former teammate Héctor Neris deep in the ninth inning for his sixth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s left the yard since a two-homer outburst back on April 14. The veteran second baseman has been one of the most impactful five-category contributors in the entire fantasy landscape this season, batting .350 (36-for-103) with 17 runs scored, six homers, eight RBI and three steals through 25 games. • Héctor Neris collects save for Cubs on Wednesday
Héctor Neris allowed one run in the ninth inning on Wednesday against the Astros, but still managed to hang on for his second save of the season.

Advice: It’s notable that Neris got the call once again to guard a two-run lead in the final frame after Adbert Alzolay pitched in the sixth inning and Mark Leiter Jr. worked a scoreless eighth inning. He gave up a leadoff homer to former teammate Jose Altuve, but managed to set down Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker to preserve the victory. The 34-year-old veteran righty has plenty of closing experience, but he hasn’t been a full-time stopper since the 2019 campaign when he notched 28 saves for the Phillies. He looks like the add for fantasy managers at the moment in Chicago, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Leiter vulture the occasional save. Rotoworld Today, 7:51 pm

    • Allows run but secures save
Neris allowed a solo home run but still managed to secure the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Astros. He struck out one.

Advice: Neris started the frame by allowing a home run to Jose Altuve, but he rebounded to retire the next three batters and earn his second save of the season. With Adbert Alzolay out of the closer's role following four blown saves, Neris figures to see plenty of end-game opportunities in the near future for the 15-9 Cubs. And if the veteran pitches well, he could hold onto the job for the rest of the season, which would certainly boost his fantasy value. Rotowire.com Today, 7:49 pm

    • Craig Kimbrel gets save against Angels
Despite allowing an unearned run in the ninth, Craig Kimbrel picked up his seventh save Wednesday against the Orioles.

Advice: Kimbrel could have saved himself some trouble by handling Ehire Adrianza’s soft grounder to start the inning, but he missed it and second baseman Jorge Mateo threw wildly after picking up the ball, resulting in a single and a two-base error. Adrianza then came around to score on a groundout. Jo Adell walked with two outs, only to then end the game on a caught stealing. Replay suggested that he was safe at second, but the call stood after a lengthy challenge. Rotoworld Today, 4:17 pm
    • Gets day off
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Carpenter's absence from the lineup is likely a result of the Rays' plan to deploy southpaw Tyler Alexander as their primary pitcher out of the bullpen. With Carpenter on the bench for the first time since April 9, Riley Greene and Wenceel Perez will occupy the corner-outfield spots while Mark Canha serves as Detroit's designated hitter. • Escapes with sixth save
Phillips gave up a hit and three walks in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his sixth save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Nationals. He struck out two.

Advice: The right-hander threw only 16 of 32 pitches for strikes in a shaky appearance, but Phillips got a bit lucky when Luis Garcia was caught in a rundown between third base and home plate rather than scoring on a CJ Abrams single. Phillips then erased a bases-loaded jam by fanning Jesse Winker to end the game. The Dodgers' closer had issued only one free pass in his first 8.2 innings this season, so the sudden control issues aren't a concern just yet. Phillips has yet to blow a save chance in 2024 while posting a 0.93 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB through 10 appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 6:45 am
    • Gives up eight hits
Wacha didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's win over Toronto, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four batters across 4.1 innings.

Advice: The Blue Jays reached base with consistency versus Wacha on Tuesday, but the 32-year-old was able to pitch himself out of jams more often than not. As a result, he required 96 pitches to get through 4.1 frames -- his shortest start of the season so far. He owns a 3.81 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 28.1 innings through his first five starts as a Royal and projects to pitch again Sunday in Detroit. Rotowire.com Today, 2:01 am
    • Evan Phillips records eventful save against Nats
Evan Phillips threw a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the Dodgers’ 4-1 win over the Nationals, collecting his sixth save of the season, despite allowing three walks and one hit.

Advice: Yes, Phillips allowed four baserunners and no runs. With runners on first and second, CJ Abrams laced a single to right field, but the Nationals third base coach put up a late stop sign that saw Luis Garcia Jr. get caught in a rundown between third and home. After Garcia was tagged out, Phillips walked Eddie Rosario to load the bases but struck out Jesse Winker to end the game. It took 32 pitches, but Phillips secured his sixth save of the year and lowered his ERA to 0.96. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:36 pm
    • Michael Wacha K’s four as Royals down Blue Jays
Michael Wacha allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings while striking out four in the Royals’ win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Advice: Wacha walked three batters through the first two innings but tight-roped out of danger despite his erratic command of the strike zone. In total, he would allow 11 men to reach base but surrendered just two earned runs, thanks in part to some timely strikeouts with men on. Sitting on a 3.81 ERA, Wacha hasn’t dazzled in any of his five outings on the young campaign but has limited opponents to three or fewer runs in all but one contest. He’s next scheduled to pitch on Sunday at Detroit. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:18 pm
