• Tigers option Keider Moreno back to Triple-A
Tigers optioned RHP Keider Moreno to Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Moreno heads back to the minors after surrendering five runs over 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Phillies. The 23-year-old righty has struggled at the highest level, but he’s flashed an ability to miss bats with his slider in the big leagues. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:56 pm

  • Struggles again in rehab start
Kremer (triceps) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in his third rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. He struck out five batters.

Advice: Kremer got his pitch count up to 75 and looks ready to return from the 15-day injured list from a workload standpoint, but it's unclear if Baltimore is keen on slotting him back into the rotation while he's largely struggled during the minor-league assignment. The right-hander has posted an 11.42 ERA and 9:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings across his three starts. He's been out since late May with a right triceps strain. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:52 am

  • Dean Kremer struggles in rehab start
Dean Kremer allowed four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

Advice: It’s another poor rehab start for Kremer, who now has an 11.42 ERA during his rehab assignment. He did strike out five while throwing 75 pitches, so it’s possible he could be up to 80-90 pitches in his next outing. Whether the Orioles decide that will come at Triple-A or in the majors is anybody’s guess right now. Rotoworld Thursday, 10:42 am

  • Shane Baz fans seven in latest start at Triple-A
Shane Baz delivered another strong start at Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, giving up two runs on six hits over his five innings of work.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the night while issuing two free passes. Baz got up to 93 pitches in the ballgame, throwing 59 of them for strikes. He’ll continue to dominate at the Triple-A level until the Rays have had enough of Aaron Civale, or until they gain another year of team control over him following the All-Star break. • Another rehab start Thursday
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that Kremer (tricep) will make another rehab start Thursday at Triple-A Norfolk, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Kremer struggled in his second rehab outing this past Saturday with Norfolk, allowing five runs while recording just two outs. He got his pitch count to 59 in his first rehab start but was pulled from the second outing after throwing just 39 pitches due to a stressful first inning. It's possible Kremer will be ready to return from the 15-day injured list next week, though that decision depends on how he looks Thursday and how much he can get stretched out. The righty has been out since late May with a right triceps strain. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:51 pm

  • Keider Montero hit hard by Phillies on Wednesday
Keider Montero was hit hard in a losing effort against the Phillies on Wednesday afternoon, giving up five runs on five hits over his 4 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 23-year-old hurler walked three while racking up six strikeouts on the afternoon. Brandon Marsh did most of the damage against him, crushing a two-run homer in the fourth inning and adding a two-run single in the fifth. It wasn’t all bat for Montero though, as he generated a whopping 18 swings and misses on 94 pitches on the afternoon — nine of those on his slider — while registering a CSW of 28 percent. It’s highly likely that Montero will head back to Triple-A Toledo following this spot start. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:42 pm

  • Drew Thorpe’s start pushed from Thursday to Friday
The White Sox will go with a bullpen day Thursday and push Drew Thorpe’s start back to Friday.

Advice: It’s good news for those rostering Thorpe, as he’ll now face the Rockies instead of the Braves. The downside is that it means he probably will miss out on a road start in Miami next week. Jonathan Cannon and Garrett Crochet are set to follow Thorpe this weekend, so it appears Mike Clevinger will make another rehab start. Rotoworld Wednesday, 10:30 am
  • Won't travel for start of road trip
Astros manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that Verlander (neck) hasn't resumed playing catch and won't accompany the team to New York for this weekend's three-game series versus the Mets, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Verlander isn't eligible to return from the 15-day injured list until Monday, but with the Astros continuing their trip in Toronto and then Minnesota next week, the right-hander's absence for the start of the road swing wouldn't seem to inspire much optimism about his chances of being ready to make a start against the Blue Jays, and perhaps even the Twins. The Astros will likely wait and see if Verlander is able to take any meaningful steps forward in his recovery from the neck issue over the next few days while he's back in Houston before determining his status for the Toronto series. • Tigers recall Keider Montero to pitch Wednesday
Tigers recalled RHP Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: The Tigers are bypassing him in favor of an opener, but Montero will make his second big-league appearance Wednesday against the Phillies. He gave up four runs over 4 1/3 innings against the Pirates in his debut four weeks ago. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:45 am
