    • Blows save Friday
Finnegan blew a save against the Cardinals on Friday, allowing two hits and one run in the ninth inning.

Advice: Finnegan was summoned to protect a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning but surrendered a solo home run to Willson Contreras. The closer had thrown five straight scoreless appearances but left a 2-2 fastball down the middle for his fourth blown save of the season. On the year, he has secured 23 saves with a 2.17 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB over 37.1 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 8:11 pm

    • Escapes with save
Doval allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning Friday, striking out one and earning a save over Cleveland.

Advice: Doval put the first two batters of the inning on base but escaped the jam to close out the 4-2 win. It was his third straight save conversion and he's now 17 for 20 in opportunities this season. Doval has not looked like his usual self; his current ERA and WHIP of 4.04 and 1.54, respectively, are both career highs. Rotowire.com Today, 7:58 pm
    • Kyle Finnegan blows save against Cardinals
Kyle Finnegan allowed one earned run on two hits in the ninth inning on Friday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Willson Contreras took Finnegan deep to tie this game in the ninth inning. He’s been remarkably consistent throughout the season, but the Nationals haven’t provided him with many save opportunities lately and he’s now blown two of his last four dating back to June 22nd. • Lands on IL with sore elbow
The Red Sox placed Martin on the 15-day injured list Friday with right elbow soreness, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Martin had given no indication of injury in his performance, having turned in five straight scoreless appearances. Manager Alex Cora said Friday that he doesn't believe Martin's injury is serious, although there's no timetable for the reliever's return at this juncture. Cam Booser will absorb Martin's spot in Boston's bullpen. Rotowire.com Today, 2:06 pm

    • Red Sox place Chris Martin (elbow) on 15-day IL
Red Sox placed RHP Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list with right elbow soreness.

Advice: The 38-year-old hurler has been effective when he has been able to take the mound this season, posting a 3.42 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 29/2 K/BB ratio over 26 1/3 innings in his 26 appearances. Elbow issues are never encouraging though and it’s not yet clear how long Martin is expected to be shelved for. Cam Booser was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to take his place in the Red Sox’ bullpen. Rotoworld Today, 2:01 pm

    • Homers in win
Suzuki went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 5-1 win over the Angels on Friday.

Advice: Suzuki got the scoring started Friday with a two-run home run off Griffin Canning in the first inning. The 29-year-old has now homered four times over his past 10 games with eight RBI and eight runs scored. He has been a solid contributor across the board in 2024, hitting .262 with 12 home runs, 36 RBI, 36 runs scored and eight steals over 275 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 1:59 pm

    • Remaining on rehab assignment
Nootbaar (oblique) will remain on his rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield for at least a couple more days to work on his timing at the plate, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The initial expectation was that Nootbaar would rejoin the Cardinals on the road for their weekend series against the Nationals, but he's evidently not satisfied with his swing and will work to fine-tune things for a bit longer. It now seems likely that Nootbaar will return July 9 when the Cardinals are back home. Rotowire.com Today, 1:41 pm

    • Stays hot in win
Moreno went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Moreno singled in his third trip to the plate before then swiping his first bag of the season. He added another single and a two-run double in his next two at-bats, giving the catcher his third multi-hit performance over his last four games. Moreno has also driven in two runs in three of his last four contests (dating back to June 21) and is riding a three-game hitting streak since returning from the injured list. • Reaches four times in win
Lowe went 3-for-5 in Thursday's win over the Royals with a double, a homer and three runs scored while also drawing a walk.

Advice: Lowe doubled in his second trip to the plate before coming around to score four batters later on a Jonny DeLuca single, extending Tampa Bay's lead to four runs. The second baseman then added a solo homer in the sixth and went on to reach four times in the contest - the first time he's done so this season. Lowe's three hits on the night also marked a season high, and he's now homered three of his last four games. Over that stretch he's batting .333 (5-for-15) with three RBI and six runs scored.
