    • Justin Grimm won after allowing three runs and 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings versus the Mariners on Friday.
Advice: With some help from Jeff Nelson. Grimm intercepted an attempted 3-6-3 double-play relay in the second inning tonight while first baseman Mitch Moreland was still reaching for the ball. Nelson never realized that the pitcher, not the first baseman, caught the ball and gave the Rangers the out. It proved to be an especially big play when Brendan Ryan followed with a rare double. Were the call gotten right, it doesn't seem nearly so likely that Grimm would have pitched into the seventh inning tonight.

    • Jeff Baker went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer before being removed for a pinch-hitter Friday against the Mariners.
Advice: Baker is only playing against left-handers, so manager Ron Washington made the switch back to David Murphy when the Mariners brought in a righty. Baker has been terrific at his job so far, hitting .354 with five homers in 48 at-bats. Still, his fantasy value is quite limited while he plays on average twice a week.

    • Michael Saunders turned in another hitless game from the leadoff spot Friday, dropping his average to .227.
Advice: Saunders is 3-for-27 with 13 strikeouts and no walks in his last eight games. It's not going to get him taken out of Seattle's lineup, but it might get him knocked down from the top of the order, at least for a bit. He's a No. 6 or 7 hitter on a decent offense.

    • John Danks was solid in his first start back from shoulder surgery Friday, giving up three runs in six-plus innings in a no-decision against the Marlins.
Advice: He reached the 90s a couple of times with his fastball, but mostly sat in the high 80s. Danks was pulled after giving up a leadoff double to Marcell Ozuna in the top of the seventh inning. Ozuna eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly, which cost Danks a chance at the victory. Still, it was an encouraging outing for the southpaw, as he gave up just four hits and walked nine while striking out five. He has another favorable matchup next week against the Cubs, but most mixed league owners can afford to wait and see for now.

    • White Sox activated LHP John Danks from the 15-day disabled list.
Advice: He'll make his season debut on Friday against the Marlins. Danks wound up posting a 3.18 during his four rehab starts, but he held a 15/13 K/BB ratio and his velocity isn't all the way back yet. Consider him only in AL-only formats for the time being.

    • John Danks (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list to make his season debut Friday against the Marlins.
Advice: White Sox manager Robin Ventura finally made the decision official on Wednesday night. Danks posted a 3.18 ERA during his four rehab starts, but he also had a 15/13 K/BB ratio and is still dealing with diminished velocity. Mixed leaguers should stay away for now.

    • John Danks (shoulder) went 4 2/3 innings Saturday in his third minor league rehab start.
Advice: If everything checks out with the left-hander early this week, he should be cleared to join the White Sox starting rotation on Friday night against the Marlins. Danks has been on the shelf all year and makes for a decent waiver stash right now in AL-only fantasy leagues. Since he's coming off shoulder surgery and still rebuilding his arm strength, it might not be wise to trust him right out of the gate in standard mixed formats. Even against Miami.

    • Joe Saunders fell to 3-5 after giving up six runs in five innings against the Rangers on Friday.
Advice: The Mariners had to know Saunders would give up more than his share of homers and hits after adding him to their rotation; the surprise is that he's already walked 22 batters in 57 2/3 innings. Last year, he walked a total of 39 in 174 2/3 innings. Saunders is at best a matchup guy in AL-only leagues. He'll be worth playing next week when he gets a road start in San Diego.

    • Jeff Keppinger delivered a walk-off RBI single in a 4-3 win over the Marlins in 11 innings on Friday.
Advice: Keppinger sneaked it through the left side of the infield with the bases loaded to win it. The veteran infielder went 2-for-5 with two RBI on the night and is hitting .343 (11-for-32) over his last nine games. The recent hot streak has only pulled his batting average up to .210 for the year, but we expect it to continue to rise in the days ahead.

    • Chris Davis went 3-for-4 with his major league-leading 16th homer in a win over the Blue Jays on Friday.
Advice: The home run was a solo shot. Davis cooled down a bit after his ridiculous start to the season, but now he's red-hot once again. The 27-year-old slugger has gone deep in three straight games and five out of his last seven. Meanwhile, his batting line sits at a ridiculous .337/.426/.723 through 47 games. We could be witness a true breakout here.

    • Chris Davis went 4-for-4 with his 14th home run Wednesday, and the Orioles beat the Yankees 6-3.
Advice: Davis continues to tear the cover off the baseball, now hitting .329/.420/.690 through 45 games this season. He is tied with Justin Upton for the league lead in home runs, and he trails only Miguel Cabrera in RBI. Davis is showing that his breakout 2012 was legit.

    • Chris Davis went 2-for-4 with a homer and a walk Monday against the Yankees.
Advice: Davis lost his share of the AL home run lead when Robinson Cano went deep in the first, only to move back into a tie by hitting his 13th homer an inning later. He has four homers in 10 games after slumping some in late April and early May.

    • Aaron Hicks, and the majority of the Twins' offense, went hitless against Anibal Sanchez in Friday's loss to the Tigers.
Advice: Even though he's picked up the pace offensively in recent weeks, Hicks is still hitting an incredibly disappointing .157/.242/.279 on the season with four homers, 16 RBI and four stolen bases. While he possesses exceptional talent and tools, he may be best served on benches in fantasy leagues until he can establish consistency at the plate.

    • Aaron Hicks went 3-for-4 and hit his fourth homer Wednesday against the Braves.
Advice: Hicks had fallen back into a 2-for-25 slump since his two-homer game on May 13. Today's homer off Cory Rasmus was his first off a righty. He was hitting just .119 in 101 at-bats against them.

    • Matt Joyce (hamstring) was 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in his return to action Friday.
Advice: Joyce left Tuesday's game with a tight hamstring and sat out Wednesday. The 28-year-old is batting .252/.336/.488 with eight home runs, 20 RBI and an .824 OPS through 40 games this season and should continue to be a useful option in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

    • Matt Joyce is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Blue Jays.
Advice: Joyce left Tuesday's game with right hamstring tightness, so it's not a surprise that he's not ready to play for the afternoon game. However, it's not known how much time he'll need to miss. Sean Rodriguez is playing right field Wednesday.

    • Jed Lowrie went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice-fly RBI in Saturday's victory against Kansas City.
Advice: Lowrie pounded the ball in April, batting .333 with a .938 OPS and 15 RBI in 102 plate appearances. The 29-year-old suffered a strained neck at the end of the month and hasn't been the same since, batting .232/.328/.286 with no homers, four RBI and one run scored over 56 May plate appearances. It's possible that the oft-injured infielder is trying to play through a malady that would be better treated by rest.

    • Justin Masterson had a rough night against his former team on Friday, serving up five runs on six hits over six innings of work in a losing effort against the Red Sox.
Advice: Masterson struck out five on the night while walking one. Mike Carp's three-run homer in the second inning was the biggest blow against him. This poor outing comes on the heels of two terrific starts where Masterson had tossed 16 scoreless innings. He'll carry a 7-3 record, 3.20 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into Wednesday's matchup against the Reds at home.

    • Justin Masterson struck out a season-high 11 batters while tossing seven scoreless frames in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Mariners.
Advice: Masterson permitted just three singles, walked a pair and hit a batter. The brilliant outing comes on the heels of a shutout of the Yankees, and he has now won seven games on the year. The big right-hander is looking much more like the 2011 version and in fact has been even better to this point. He'll bring a 2.83 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into Boston next weekend.

    • Brett Gardner smacked a two-run homer in Friday's 9-4 win over the Rays.
Advice: It was his fourth home run of the season and his first since April 26. The 29-year-old hasn't been as active on the basepaths as usual, as he only has nine stolen bases in 47 games, but he's currently on pace to reach new career-highs in home runs and RBI.

    • Gordon Beckham (hand) started at shortstop Monday in his third rehab game with Triple-A Charlotte.
Advice: Beckham played shortstop in college and as a prospect, but he has never done so in the majors. Of course, Alexei Ramirez is in the second year of a four-year, $32.5 million contract, so there would have to be an injury or a trade for him to get a look there with the big club. • Chris Tillman yielded three runs in five innings Friday in a win over the Blue Jays.
Advice: Tillman lived dangerously, as he allowed a season-high 10 hits and a pair of homers, but he was able to avoid disaster. He walked none and matched a season-high with seven strikeouts. Tillman has allowed 10 home runs in 58 2/3 innings this season, but still owns a fine 3.68 ERA on the year. He'll square off against the Nationals next week.

Advice: Tillman recorded four strikeouts. The right-hander put together his sixth straight quality start, but he was undone in this one by a pair of solo homers from Luke Scott and Matt Joyce. • The Indians are contemplating when to promote Carlos Carrasco.
Advice: Carrasco deserves another shot in the rotation, having posted a 1.36 ERA while striking out 41 over 39 2/3 Triple-A innings. The problem is that he has to serve a suspension, which will last eight games unless it's reduced following his appeal. "Once we have a sense of what the final suspension will be, maybe it's eight games, maybe it's less, we'll have an idea how to work around it," said general manager Chris Antonetti. It would be easiest to work around the suspension at the All-Star break, but it's possible the Tribe will call Carrasco up before then.

    • Twins optioned OF Oswaldo Arcia to Triple-A Rochester.
Advice: Despite an 0-for-3 effort on Friday, the 22-year-old rookie made a very strong impression during his short time with the Twins. Through his first 30 games, he hit .255/.318/.449 with four homers and 14 RBI. He was in complete command on the evening, at one point retiring 18 consecutive hitters. He was making a bid for his second career no-hitter, already having turned the feat against the Diamondbacks on September 6, 2006.
