      Paul Skenes improved to 3-0 after allowing three runs in five innings and striking out eight Wednesday against the Dodgers.

      Advice: Skenes surrendered homers to Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages, matching his total of two allowed in his first four starts, but he once against received ample run support from a Pirates offense that has often scuffled for, well, going on 30 years now. The team has scored 10, nine, six, 10 and nine runs in Skenes’ five starts. That’s 11 more runs in five games than the 33 runs totaled in Jared Jones’ 12 starts this season.     • Andy Pages hits sixth homer against Pirates
      Andy Pages went 2-for-4 and hit his sixth homer against the Pirates on Wednesday.

      Advice: Pages seems to have gotten it back together lately, which is huge for him. James Outman has been tearing it up in Triple-A and is the better defensive center fielder, so Pages might have been due to head back to the minors if not for him going 11-for-22 in his last seven games. As is, the Dodgers will likely stick with the status quo for a little while longer. It’s easy to imagine Outman overtaking Pages at some point, though. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:59 pm
       
    • Isaac Paredes plates three runs to lead Rays
      Isaac Paredes went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI on Wednesday night, propelling the Rays to a 5-3 victory over the Marlins.

      Advice: Paredes opened the scoring in the contest with a two-run single off of Braxton Garrett in the opening inning and then scored on an RBI double off the bat of Josh Lowe. He also plated Brandon Lowe with an RBI double in the third inning that extended the Rays’ lead to 5-2. The 25-year-old is having a terrific season in the middle of the Rays’ lineup — slashing .298/.383/.498 with 10 homers and 37 RBI. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:04 pm

    • Jordan Hicks lasts just 3 2/3 frames vs. D-backs
      Jordan Hicks gave up two runs over 3 2/3 inefficient frames on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Hicks was all over the place in this one as he authored one of the more bizarre pitching lines of the season to date with seven strikeouts and four walks, while needing a staggering 92 pitches (51 strikes) to work into the fourth inning. The 27-year-old righty has exceeded expectations in his transition back to a traditional starting role, despite not working too deep into contests so far, posting a stellar 2.82 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 59/23 K/BB ratio across 67 innings (13 starts).     • Jordan Montgomery’s struggles continue vs. Giants
      Jordan Montgomery was torched for six runs over two innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Giants.

      Advice: Montgomery kicked off the contest with a pair of scoreless frames before coming completely unraveled in a calamitous third inning when San Francisco struck for six runs on six hits, including a pair of homers. He finished with two strikeouts and also issued one walk. The 31-year-old lefty has been hit extremely hard in his Arizona debut so far, allowing six earned runs in back-to-back outings and three of his nine starts so far since April 19. He’ll bring a bloated 6.80 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 29/18 K/BB ratio across 46 1/3 innings (nine starts). He’s going to improve at some point, but it’s difficult for fantasy managers to trust him at the moment until he shows some signs that he’s turning things around. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:12 pm
       
    • Hit hard in Wednesday's loss
      Montgomery (3-4) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up six runs on seven hits and three walks over two-plus innings as Arizona fell 9-3 to San Francisco. He struck out one.

      Advice: The southpaw held the Giants off the board for two innings, but things fell apart quickly in the third, highlighted by Wilmer Flores' grand slam -- the first slam Montgomery has ever served up in his career. The 31-year-old has been tagged for 14 runs in only six innings over his last two starts, and he'll carry a 6.80 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 29:18 K:BB through 46.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Angels.       Hicks came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Diamondbacks, giving up two runs on six hits and four walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: The right-hander did rack up some Ks, but Hicks needed 92 pitches (51 strikes) to record just 11 outs and got the hook before he could quality for a win. He's failed to complete six innings in seven straight trips to the mound, posting a 4.09 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 32:13 K:BB over 33 innings during that stretch.       Jack Flaherty (back) told reporters on Wednesday that he’s confident he’ll make his next scheduled start on Tuesday against the Nationals.

      Advice: While most players express optimism in all injury situations, it’s at least encouraging that he hasn’t been placed on the injured list as of yet. The 28-year-old hurler was pulled from Tuesday’s outing against the Rangers after just 60 pitches due to tightness in his back. Flaherty did say that he still felt some stiffness in his back on Wednesday, but that it’s improved from where he was on Tuesday.     • Falls to St. Louis
      Blanco (5-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: Blanco held St. Louis to one run through his first four frames before surrendering three runs between the fifth and sixth innings. After starting the year 5-0, Blanco's now dropped back-to-back starts while allowing eight runs across 9.1 innings in that span. The 30-year-old right-hander still sports a solid 2.78 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP and 59:27 K:BB across 11 starts (64.2 innings) this year.
