    • Triston McKenzie pitching with torn elbow ligament
The Athletic’s Zack Meisel and Jason Lloyd report Triston McKenzie is pitching through a torn ligament in his right elbow.

Advice: McKenzie opted for the rest and rehabilitation route last year instead of undergoing Tommy John surgery, and insists that he isn’t feeling any pain this season. However, his on-field results have been utterly abysmal with a bloated 6.23 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 5/12 K/BB ratio across 13 innings (three starts). The biggest concerns for fantasy managers are that his fastball velocity (90.9 mph) is down nearly two miles-per-hour from two seasons ago (92.5 mph) when he was completely healthy and he’s walked nearly 20 percent of the batters he’s faced so far. Simply put, McKenzie’s early season performance has been alarming, but there appears to be a possible explanation. Fantasy managers should expect Cleveland to continue carefully managing his workload and hope that his stuff rebounds in the coming weeks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:01 pm

    • Andrés Giménez drives in pair in win over Boston
Andrés Giménez went 2-for-5 with two RBI to help the Guardians to a victory over the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Giménez had a pair of run-scoring singles Thursday, the first of which came in the third to tie the score at 1-1. His second RBI knock came in the fifth to extend Cleveland’s lead to 3-1, and it gives the 25-year-old 11 runs driven in over the first 19 games. He’s not showing much power, but Giménez has still slashed a solid .293/.360/.387 to open the 2024 campaign. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:20 pm

    • Set for bullpen session Saturday
Pivetta (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Pivetta will play catch from 120 feet Thursday, and if all goes well, he'll take a big step forward in his recovery from a right elbow strain by getting back on the mound this weekend. The right-hander will likely need to complete multiple bullpen sessions before he's cleared to face hitters in live batting practice. After that, Pivetta will likely require a brief minor-league rehab assignment to get stretched back out, so he could be hard pressed to make it back from the injured list in the minimum 15 days. A return in the first or second week of May could be realistic, provided Pivetta avoids any setbacks while ramping back up. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:11 am

    • Not on mound yet
Pivetta (elbow) continues to play catch but hasn't yet advanced to mound work, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Pivetta was placed on the 15-day injured list and is first eligible to return Sunday, but he's not yet ready to help a Red Sox rotation that has been hit by the injury bug of late, as Garrett Whitlock (oblique) joined him on the IL this week. It's likely Pivetta will need at least one rehab start before rejoining the club. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:15 am

    • Collects fifth save
Iglesias walked one in a scoreless 10th inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Astros.

Advice: After Atlanta grabbed the lead in the top of the 10th, Iglesias walked Kyle Tucker on five pitches to lead off the bottom of the frame and set up a double play, and the right-hander got one from Jeremy Pena to end the game. Iglesias is still looking for his peak velocity -- he topped out at 94.6 mph with his sinker Wednesday, below last season's 95.0 mph average -- and he has just a 3:1 K:BB through his first 6.1 innings. However, the 34-year-old is 5-for-5 in converting save chances and sports a 2.84 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. His job as Atlanta's closer remains secure. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:31 am
    • Raisel Iglesias gets save in 10th inning
Raisel Iglesias protected a one-run lead in the 10th for a save Wednesday against the Astros.

Advice: Iglesias walked Kyle Tucker to start the 10th, but he then got a flyout and a double play to strand the automatic runner and end the game. He has five saves and a 2.84 ERA in 6 1/3 innings. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:55 pm
    • Thairo Estrada doubles, knocks in run vs. Marlins
Thairo Estrada went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Wednesday’s matchup against the Giants.

Advice: Estrada got the Giants on the board with his double in the second inning. He also had a single in the seventh inning and scored the go-ahead run off a fielder’s choice double play with men on first and third. The 28-year-old has picked it up offensively with three multi-hit games in his past six games. Rotoworld Wednesday, 11:43 am

    • Another day off Wednesday
Walker is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Oakland.

Advice: Walker has now been on the bench for two of the last four games, and in the two contests he's started he's been down in the eighth spot in the lineup both times. The 21-year-old had an RBI in both of the first two games of the series, but he's managed just a .556 OPS so far in his first 16 contests this season. Lars Nootbaar will slide over to right field and Brendan Donovan will be in left field in Wednesday's series finale. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:06 am

    • Notches save in season debut
Romano gave up one run on one hit plus a hit by pitch in the ninth inning Tuesday to record his first save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Making his first appearance of 2024 after beginning the year on the IL due to elbow inflammation, Romano wasn't quite his usual dominant self, but his velocity was fine - he topped out at 97.6 mph with his fastball - and he was able to get the job done. The right-hander has produced 36 saves in each of the last two seasons, and he has a secure hold on the closer role in Toronto. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:59 am
