• Throwing long toss
Maeda was seen throwing long toss Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Maeda was removed from his start Wednesday after just two pitches with right abdominal discomfort. McCosky also reports that Maeda reported mild soreness in hs abdomen during the session but the pain wasn't enough to prevent him from progressing toward his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday. • Shouldn't miss next start
Flaherty (back) said he expects "all systems go" for his next start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against Washington, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Flaherty was pulled after 60 pitches in his last start due to back tightness but it seems as though he's avoided any significant injury and is all but confirmed to face Washington. Considering back injuries can be touch-and-go, there remains a small risk that the issue will flare up again. Regardless, Flaherty is feeling good and is optimistic for Tuesday's start, where he'll look to extend his scoreless innings streak which stands at 11.2 innings. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

  • White Sox designate Woodford for assignment
White Sox designated RHP Jake Woodford for assignment.

Advice: Woodford was hit hard on Thursday as he allowed seven runs in four innings against the Red Sox. That’ll be his last appearance in Chicago for awhile. The club has seven days to trade Woodford or place him on waivers. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

  • Covers two innings in rehab start
Junis (shoulder/head) struck out three over two perfect innings in his rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: According to MLB.com, Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Junis reported no issues with his shoulder coming out of the rehab appearance, his first at any level since he was placed on the injured list April 6. The Brewers haven't yet decided on a role for Junis once he's ready to come off the 60-day IL, but with injuries beginning to pile up in the rotation, the right-hander could slot into a starting role once he gets fully stretched out in the minors. After throwing 21 pitches Tuesday, Junis is expected to increase his workload when he makes his second appearance for Nashville on Saturday. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago

  • White Sox recalled RHP Cannon from Triple-A
White Sox recalled RHP Jonathan Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: Cannon had a 7.24 ERA in three starts for the White Sox earlier this year. He has a 5.50 ERA in eight starts with Tripe-A this year. Cannon figures to pitch out of the bullpen with Chicago this time around. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
  • Brewers optioned Ashby to Triple-A
Brewers optioned LHP Aaron Ashby to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Ashby had a 6.23 ERA in two starts with the Brewers this year and didn’t appear in the majors last season. The 26-year-old left-hander also had a 6.80 ERA at Triple-A this year. He’s off the fantasy radar. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Brewers optioned Ashby to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Advice: The Brewers are down multiple starters due to injury, so this move seems to reflect their lack of faith in Ashby right now. The left-hander made a start Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing just two runs but walking five over five innings. He will join the rotation at Nashville. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago

  • Set to start Saturday
Peralta is scheduled to start Saturday against the Tigers, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

Advice: The right-hander initially lined up to start Friday's series opener, but Tobias Myers will instead take the ball for Milwaukee. Peralta has given up at least one homer in each of his past four starts, though he's still been effective in those past three outings with a 2.55 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 25:4 K:BB across 17.2 innings. • Back in big leagues
The White Sox recalled Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Cannon is absorbing the roster spot vacated by Jake Woodford and also seems likely to take Woodford's spot in the White Sox' rotation. The rookie right-hander has posted a 7.24 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB in 13.2 innings covering three starts at the major-league level this season. Rotowire.com 53 minutes ago
