      Clarke Schmidt (lat) began playing catch on Monday as he continues to work his way back from a right lat strain.

      Advice: He’s still a long way away from being ready for game action, but it’s nice to see the 28-year-old hurler take a small step in the right direction after being shut down from throwing altogether for nearly a month.     • Forced to IL with blister issue
      The Reds placed Lodolo on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left finger blister.

      Advice: Lodolo battled the blister issue during his start this past Sunday against the Red Sox, and the Reds have opted to give the left-hander some down time in order to let the finger heal. He had been slated to start Friday in St. Louis, but the Reds will now need a substitute. Graham Ashcraft has pitched well in two starts since being demoted to Triple-A Louisville, so he's a candidate to take Lodolo's spot. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:39 am

    • Reds place Nick Lodolo on IL with finger blister
      Reds placed LHP Nick Lodolo on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 24, with a left finger blister.

      Advice: Lodolo was ineffective against the Red Sox on Sunday, and it’s possible the blister had something to do with the issue. He’ll be out of action for a couple of weeks, and it seems likely that Graham Ashcraft will take his spot in the rotation. In the meantime, Yosver Zulueta is up to take Lodolo’s spot on the roster.     • Blows second save
      Munoz was charged with a blown save Monday against Tampa Bay, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout in one-third of an inning.

      Advice: Munoz entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and runners on second and third. He walked Jose Caballero before allowing a two-run single to Yandy Diaz, giving the Rays a 4-3 lead. While Munoz blew the save, it is encouraging that he was called upon for the high-leverage situation over fellow closer Ryne Stanek, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning. The Mariners closer situation should still be considered a committee moving forward, with Munoz offering the most upside. Despite blowing the save, the 25-year-old has been dominant this season, compiling a 1.41 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and a 43:11 K:BB over 32 innings, converting 13-of-15 save opportunities with six holds.     • Throws eight shutout innings
      Lopez (7-6) allowed two hits and one walk while striking out 14 over eight shutout innings to earn the win Sunday over the Athletics.

      Advice: Lopez retired the first 17 batters he faced before Lawrence Butler's sixth-inning single. This was Lopez's first scoreless outing of the season as well as his longest start, and the 14 strikeouts were a season high. He'd given up 14 runs over 13 innings across his first three starts in June. Even with this gem, Lopez has a 5.11 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 101:19 K:BB through 88 innings across 16 starts this year. Considering he's posted a career-worst 1.6 HR/9, it's likely a fair amount of his struggles have come from bad luck with the long ball, as the rest of his underlying numbers are in line with his usual level of performance.     • Pablo López strikes out 14 in victory over A’s
      Pablo López delivered his finest start of the season on Sunday, racking up 14 strikeouts over eight innings of shutout baseball in a victory over the Athletics.

      Advice: López allowed just two hits — both of them singles — and one walk on the brilliant afternoon. The 28-year-old hurler bounced back in a huge way after being shelled by the Rays his last time out, looking like the star hurler that we saw dominating on a nightly basis for the Twins during the 2023 campaign. He piled up 19 swings and misses on 102 pitches in the contest — 10 of those on his fastball alone — while posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll see if he can build off of this start and further improve upon his 5.11 ERA and 1.17 WHIP when he takes the mound against the Mariners in Seattle on Saturday. Rotoworld Jun 23, 4:18 pm

      Nick Lodolo lost to the Red Sox after yielding four runs — three earned — in 4 2/3 innings Sunday.

      Advice: Lodolo hadn’t allowed more than two runs in winning five straight starts since returning from the IL, but he didn’t have quite the same stuff today. With his curveball a little off, he settled for seven missed swings in the 77-pitch outing. He also walked four.     • Limited by blister
      Lodolo was limited Sunday versus the Red Sox as a result of a blister on his left index finger, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

      Advice: Lodolo tossed 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out three batters against Boston. The left-hander was tagged with the loss, while the four free passes were a season high, which is likely the result of the blister on his throwing hand. Following the contest, Lodolo said that "the feeling for the ball was not the same," but that it's "not impacting him a ton," so it's possible he'll be ready to go for his next start.     • Aaron Civale allows one run in no-decision
      Aaron Civale held the Pirates to one run and three hits over five innings Sunday.

      Advice: The run came on a wind-aided homer from Bryan Reynolds. Civale allowed just three hard-hit balls, with the homer not actually being one of them. He didn’t factor into the decision, but the Rays managed to prevail in a Civale start for the first time since May 3; they had lost eight in a row.
