    • David Peterson turns in quality start for Mets
      David Peterson threw 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball Monday in a no-decision against the Nationals.

      Advice: Peterson struck out just two and gave up seven hits, but since he’s quite good at keeping the ball on the ground, those hits produced just 10 total bases. He remained 3-0 with a 3.51 ERA through six starts. We don’t entirely trust him at this point, but he’s a valid option in deeper leagues. He’ll face the Pirates next. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago
       
    • MacKenzie Gore denied win after strong showing
      MacKenzie Gore allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings and struck out eight Monday against the Mets.

      Advice: Gore was at 104 pitches, so it’s kind or understandable that he was pulled in the sixth. Still, he seemed to be very much in control at that point. He’d given up just a soft single before rebounding to retire the next two batters in the sixth. The Nationals pulled him with a 2-0 lead in favor of Derek Law, and the Mets, aided by a CJ Abrams error, went on to score three runs in the frame. That Gore didn’t get a win will probably save the Nationals about $100,000 in arbitration this winter, so they have that going for them. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

      Gore did not factor into the decision in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Mets, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: The Washington southpaw created an incredible 21 whiffs to collect his eight punchouts. This was a bounce back performance for Gore as he struggled in five June starts with a 5.13 ERA across 26.1 innings. The 25-year-old's season ERA now stands at 3.47 with 107:29 K:BB over 90.2 innings. He is tentatively scheduled to make his next outing against the Cardinals at home this weekend.       Giants optioned RHP Landen Roupp to Triple-A Sacramento.

      Advice: Roupp spent just one day in the majors and gave up three runs over 2 2/3 innings in relief against the Dodgers. There hasn’t been any word on who is taking his roster spot.       Jared Koenig said an MRI on his sore forearm revealed no structural damage.

      Brown (6-5) earned the win Monday against Toronto, allowing two hits and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: The Houston right-hander continued his torrid hot streak, tossing an eighth consecutive quality start. Over those eight outings, Brown has gone 5-1 with a 1.29 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 53:14 K:BB across 49 innings. Despite sporting a 9.78 ERA after his first 23 innings, the 25-year-old has now lowered his overall ERA to 4.07 in 86.1 total innings.     • Hunter Brown goes six scoreless to defeat Jays
      Hunter Brown tossed six scoreless frames, allowing only two hits, Monday as the Astros defeated the Blue Jays 3-1.

      Advice: The Jays had a chance in the second, when Brown gave up a single and walked two to load the bases with one out, but Ernie Clement and Kevin Kiermaier failed to bring home any runners. Other than that, Brown kept the Toronto bats very quiet on Canada Day. He’s won five straight starts, allowing a total of one run in the process.     • Yariel Rodríguez holds Astros to one run in loss
      Yariel Rodríguez limited the Astros to one run and two hits over 6 2/3 innings in a tough loss Monday.

      Advice: Apart from one bad curveball deposited into the stands by Jeremy Peña, Rodríguez was exceptional today, generating 13 missed swings and six strikeouts while needed just 83 pitches to get 20 outs. We’d still suggest shying away from Rodríguez in shallow leagues, especially in light of his workload concerns, but he could be a sleeper next year when he’s presumably under fewer restrictions.
