    • Elly has HR and SB in win over Phillies
Elly De La Cruz went 1-for-3 with a home run and a stolen base in an 8-1 win over the Phillies.

Advice: It’s been quite the beginning of the season for Elly, who is now slashing .295/.402/.641 with seven home runs and 12 steals. Honestly, the on-base percentage may be the most impressive number. After struggling with his plate discipline last year, the 22-year-old has made incredible strides in 2024 with 13 walks in 23 games. He will likely always run some high strikeout rates, but he is consistently putting himself in a position to do damage with better swing decisions and fantasy managers are reaping the benefits. If the plate discipline remains, there is no reason to think he’s not a first-round fantasy pick. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

    • Abbott can’t get through five innings vs PHI
Andrew Abbott allowed one run on two hits in 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Phillies.

Advice: Abbott was staked with an early four-run lead, but his command failed him, allowing four walks and being pulled from the game after throwing 79 pitches. The positive was that Abbott didn’t allow much hard contact, but he had just a 24 percent CSW and a zone percentage under 50 percent. He struggled to command his four-seamer and changeup and his 2.90 ERA on the season feels entirely flukey. He has just 20 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings and none of the ERA estimators believe he should have an ERA under 4.40. He is not a recommended start on Sunday against the Rangers. • Paul Sewald (oblique) fans two in rehab debut
Paul Sewald (oblique) allowed an unearned run and recorded two outs on Tuesday in his minor league rehab debut for Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Sewald notched a pair of strikeouts and threw 21 pitches (14 strikes) in his first rehab outing. The 33-year-old veteran stopper figures to rejoin Arizona’s injury-depleted bullpen in the coming days after missing the opening month of the season recovering from a Grade 2 left oblique strain. • Undergoes thumb operation
Alvarez (thumb) underwent surgery on his left thumb Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a torn UCL in his left thumb and he will now officially begin the road to recovery. The Mets said Tuesday that the catcher is expected to miss eight weeks of action while recovering from the surgery, likely sidelining Alvarez until late June. In the meantime, Omar Narvaez and Tomas Nido will continue to split the work behind the plate for New York. Rotowire.com Today, 4:48 pm
    • Francisco Alvarez out eight weeks after surgery
Francisco Alvarez will miss eight weeks after undergoing surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb.

Advice: The official timetable puts Alvarez’s potential return, barring any setbacks, at some point in mid-June. The 22-year-old backstop suffered the injury during last Friday’s contest when he slipped while rounding first base. It’ll be veteran Omar Narváez handling the catching duties for New York in his absence. Rotoworld Today, 4:34 pm
    • Reinstated, in lineup Tuesday
The Red Sox reinstated O'Neill (concussion) from the 7-day injured list, and he's batting third as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Guardians, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: The veteran outfielder will end up missing only the seven-day minimum after suffering a concussion in a collision with Rafael Devers (knee) last week. O'Neill has been one of the best hitters in baseball early in 2024 with seven homers and a 1.209 OPS in 61 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 12:03 pm

    • Red Sox activate Tyler O’Neill for Tuesday return
Red Sox activated OF Tyler O’Neill from the 7-day injured list.

Advice: Good news for the 28-year-old, who was targeting a Tuesday return and stayed on schedule. O’Neill should provide Boston an offensive spark in the middle of the lineup as he boasts a .313 batting average through 15 games played this season. Rotoworld Today, 11:59 am

    • Breaks slump with walk-off blast
Gorman hit a two-run, walk-off home run in his lone at-bat in Monday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Gorman was given Monday off, but ultimately entered the game as a defensive replacement. His lone at-bat ended the game, as he took Kyle Nelson deep in the ninth inning to complete the Cardinals' comeback win. Gorman has four homers, 10 RBI, six runs scored and three doubles over 84 plate appearances this season, but he's slashing just .179/.238/.372 and striking out at a 38.1 percent clip, so he's not out of the woods yet. Gorman should continue to play against most right-handers, but he'll rarely be in the lineup versus southpaws. Rotowire.com Today, 10:21 am

    • Homers in loss
Garcia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: Garcia is starting to come around at the plate, going 4-for-17 (.235) over his last four contests following a five-game slump. The third baseman has already matched his homer total from last season (four), which took him 123 games to accumulate in 2023. He's added four steals, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored and a .178/.224/.367 slash line over 98 plate appearances so far, but he remains intriguing in fantasy for his speed. Rotowire.com Today, 9:57 am
