    • Slugs go-ahead homer in extras
Martinez went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two walks in Monday's 9-7 win against the Nationals.

Advice: The New York designated hitter blasted a titanic 420-foot homer off Hunter Harvey in the 10th inning to break the tie. The round tripper was a welcome sight for Martinez, as he entered this contest on a bit of a cold spell, slashing .211/.333/.342 across 47 plate appearances in his previous 10 games with just one homer. The veteran power hitter now sports a .278 with 10 home runs, 37 RBI and 22 runs scored in 209 at-bats overall. Rotowire.com Today, 8:07 pm

    • J.D. Martinez homers in 10th to propel Mets
J.D. Martinez hit a three-run homer in the 10th and walked twice Monday as the Mets bested the Nationals 9-7.

Advice: This was a 3-3 game through nine, but Martinez broke the game open with his homer off Hunter Harvey in the 10th. The Mets went on to score three more times in the frame, which proved important after the Nationals came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Martinez’s homer was his 10th in 239 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 7:32 pm

    • Late entrant into lineup
Clement will start at third base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Clement wasn't in the Blue Jays' initial lineup, but he'll get his third straight start after he was a late addition in place of Vladimir Guerrero (finger), who was scratched. Guerrero is considered day-to-day, and once he's able to rejoin the lineup, Clement will likely return to his usual bench role. Rotowire.com Today, 10:19 am

    • Records 17th steal Sunday
Rodriguez went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in a loss to the Twins on Sunday.

Advice: Rodriguez's hit was only his second in the last 31 plate appearances, a seven-game span where the talented outfielder has generated an anemic .069 average and .198 OPS. The multi-game skid has temporarily erased a lot of the progress Rodriguez had made after a slow start to the season, as his slash line has dropped to a middling .247/.297/.327. However, there are underlying metrics that suggest Rodriguez is running into some tough luck as well -- he owns an expected batting average and slugging percentage of .272 and .434, respectively, and he's also boasting a career-best 21.7 percent line-drive rate. • Shohei Ohtani goes 0-for-5 in loss to Giants
Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts on Sunday in the Dodgers’ blowout loss to the Giants.

Advice: We’re fairly confident he’s going to be just fine moving forward. There will be days like this, even for generational superstar like Ohtani, who launched his 26th round-tripper of the season during Saturday’s extra-inning win over the division-rival Giants. The 29-year-old slugger has gone deep nine times over his last 15 contests. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:37 pm

    • Struggles in defeat
Allen (8-4) took the loss Sunday against the Royals, allowing three earned runs on six hits and zero walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Allen never found his footing, surrendering runs in the first two frames before exiting in the fifth inning. This comes off the back of a brutal outing during which he allowed three home runs and was pulled after just three innings. The 25-year-old has been an adequate source of wins thanks to the Cleveland offense, but he sports an ugly 5.75 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP and a 67:31 K:BB across 83 innings this season. The southpaw will look to bounce back in his next start, currently scheduled for next weekend against the Giants. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:48 pm

    • Allen gives up three runs in loss to Royals Sunday
Logan Allen allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Royals on Sunday.

Advice: Allen gave up six hits, walked none and struck out three. His ERA was 5.83 at the end of May before winning two of his first three starts in June, but now his last two starts have his ERA back up to 5.75 on the year. Allen has won eight games for the Guardians, but you have to wonder how much longer he’s going to last in this rotation. The 27-year-old left-hander is set to face the Giants at home next weekend.

    • Guardians demote McKenzie, activate Williams
Guardians optioned RHP Triston McKenzie to Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: McKenzie gets the boot with the Guardians bringing Gavin Williams (elbow) off the 60-day injured list to make his season debut this week. McKenzie has been awful on the mound as of late while allowing 12 earned runs and walking 11 over his last three starts. There’s still plenty of reason for long-term optimism as a 26-year-old who has had as much success as he’s had, but fantasy managers should look elsewhere for help in their rotation at this point. • Demoted to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned McKenzie to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Through the first three months of the 2024 season, the historically injury prone McKenzie has enjoyed a clean bill of health, but he's performed well below expectations for both the Guardians and fantasy managers alike. After failing to escape the third inning while giving up five earned runs in his most recent start Friday in Kansas City, McKenzie now holds a 5.11 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 75.2 innings on the season. The Guardians will send the right-hander to the minors with the hope that he'll be able to return to form and eventually slot back into the big-league rotation. Gavin Williams (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and will fill McKenzie's spot in the rotation during the upcoming week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:52 am
