    • Breather Friday
Polanco is not in the starting lineup for Friday's contest with the Athletics, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Advice: Polanco will get a breather after going 2-for-18 with one run scored and seven strikeouts over Seattle's four-game series in Minnesota. Josh Rojas will slide over to second base while Luis Urias will enter the lineup at third base and bat ninth against Oakland. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

    • Won't need surgery
Yoshida got a third opinion on his left thumb and said Friday that the injury wouldn't require surgery, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida is battling a strained left thumb and, up until this point, surgery was not off the table. After seeing his third specialist, it's been decided that he'll be able to go straight into rehab without undergoing a procedure. Manager Alex Cora said it will be weeks until Yoshida can resume swinging a bat, per Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald, so he'll likely be sidelined for at least another month. • Belts eighth homer
Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and a double in a 4-3 victory versus the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Alvarez helped Houston get off to a quick start with his first-inning solo blast. He then knocked a double in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Jeremy Pena single. Alvarez had been mired in a bad slump coming into Thursday, going 3-for-32 over his previous nine games since hitting two homers against Colorado on April 27. His season slash line of .245/.325/.448 remains well below his career norm. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:20 pm

    • Takes loss Thursday
Stroman (2-2) took the loss against Houston on Thursday, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Stroman got off to a poor beginning Thursday, giving up three first-inning runs on homers by Yordan Alvarez and Jon Singleton. He rebounded to keep Houston off the scoreboard over the following three frames before being tagged for another run in the fifth. Stroman at least allowed New York to keep within striking range, but this was his second time giving up four runs over his past three starts. The veteran right-hander has been only moderately effective for the Yankees thus far, posting a 3.80 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 40:22 K:BB through 42.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:15 pm
    • Placed on injured list
Drury (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: Drury exited Wednesday's game after dealing with tightness in his hamstring, an issue he first dealt with in mid-April. He'll be sidelined for at least the next 10 days, leaving Luis Guillorme as the Angels' projected starting second baseman in the short term. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:36 pm

    • Angels put Brandon Drury (hamstring) on 10-day IL
Angels placed INF Brandon Drury on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

Advice: No word yet on the severity of the injury, which will determine how long Drury remains on the shelf. The 31-year-old suffered the injury during Wednesday’s contest against the Pirates and figures to miss at least a couple weeks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:30 pm

    • Yordan Alvarez goes deep in win over Yankees
Yordan Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer on Thursday, powering the Astros to a 4-3 victory over the Yankees.

Advice: Alvarez kicked off the scoring in the opening frame by taking Yankees starter Marcus Stroman deep for his eighth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s left the yard since a two-homer explosion back on April 27, snapping a nine-game homerless drought. The 26-year-old four-category fantasy superstar is batting .245/.325/.448 with 21 runs scored, eight homers and 19 RBI through 163 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:07 pm

    • Marcus Stroman serves up two homers in loss
Marcus Stroman was tagged for four runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Stroman coughed up a pair of first-inning homers and also served up a run-scoring single to Jeremy Peña in the fifth inning, which was enough to saddle him with a loss in a low-scoring affair at Yankee Stadium. He struck out five and also issued a pair of walks. He’ll bring a serviceable 3.80 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 40/22 K/BB ratio across 42 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a road matchup on Wednesday against the Twins. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:04 pm
    • A’s asking price ‘steep’ in Mason Miller talks
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Athletics’s asking price for flame-throwing closer Mason Miller is steep.

Advice: Rosenthal adds that a team source indicates no team has come close to meeting Oakland’s astronomical asking price. The 25-year-old starter-turned-closer has been phenomenal this season, with a microscopic 1.10 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 33/4 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (13 appearances). It’s entirely possible that no team will come close to coughing up enough prospect capital to make a deal happen, but Miller figures to be at the epicenter of rumors leading up to the trade deadline later this summer.
