    • Struggles in Independence Day loss
Stroman (7-4) took the loss against Cincinnati on Thursday, pitching five innings and allowing five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings.

Advice: Stroman struggled to keep the ball in the park Thursday -- of the five hits he allowed, three were long balls, and all five of the runs he yielded came on home runs. The right-hander hadn't been prone to the long ball coming in, as he hadn't given up a homer in three of his prior four stats. Stroman hasn't been pitching particularly well of late, though, as he has a 6.43 ERA across 21 frames covering his past four outings. The five earned runs he allowed against the Reds tied a season-high mark. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago
    • Lowe has three hits, home run in win over Royals
Brandon Lowe went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a home run and three runs scored against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: Lowe’s home run was his eighth of the season and third in his last four games. He took Will Smith deep for a solo shot in the sixth inning. It hasn’t been Lowe’s best season, but he’s showing signs of life lately. He’s hitting .229 with an .810 OPS and 25 RBI on the year. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago

    • Pops solo shot
Westburg went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Westburg has hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games, going 16-for-54 (.296) with three homers and seven RBI in that span. The infielder is up to 14 homers this season while adding 49 RBI, 42 runs scored, six stolen bases and a .280/.329/.508 slash line across 80 contests. He continues to split time between second base and third base, but he's firmly in the middle of the Orioles' lineup on a near-everyday basis, and he has the production to match that role. • Nearing throwing program
Yamamoto (shoulder) has been working with a plyo ball and could resume throwing soon, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Yamamoto has made progress in his rehab and was described as pain free Wednesday. Assuming that remains the case, he's expected to start playing catch again before the All-Star break, likely meaning he won't return before August. Rotowire.com Today, 4:34 pm

    • Marcus Stroman allows three homers in loss to Reds
Marcus Stroman gave up five runs while hurling five innings in a loss to the Reds on Thursday.

Advice: The long ball was a problem for Stroman, as he gave up three homers accounting for all five runs. He walked two and struck out six in a start that would have looked fine without the roundtrippers. That’s not how this works, unfortunately. Stroman will take a 3.58 ERA into his final start of the first half against the Rays on Wednesday. Rotoworld Today, 1:10 pm
    • Marcus Semien getting a day off on Thursday
Marcus Semien is not in the Rangers’ lineup on Thursday.

Advice: It’s a rare off day for Semien, who has played all 162 games in three of the last four non-COVID seasons and played 161 games in the other year. However, the day off might be needed as Semien has been struggling at the dish of late. Jonathan Ornelas still start at second and bat ninth. Rotoworld Today, 11:00 am

    • Idle Thursday
Rutschman isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Rutschman will get a day to regroup Thursday after being held hitless in 13 at-bats over his last four games. James McCann will instead get the nod to start at catcher while batting ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 10:12 am
    • Taking seat Thursday
Cronenworth is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Rangers.

Advice: It's a routine day of rest after Cronenworth started each of the previous 12 games for the Padres. Tyler Wade will receive a start at second base. Rotowire.com Today, 9:06 am

    • Moves up to No. 3 spot
Merrill will start in center field and bat third in Thursday's game versus the Rangers.

Advice: Merrill had one start out of the leadoff spot back in mid-April and batted fifth a couple times last month, but this will be his first-ever start from the third spot in the Padres' batting order. The rookie outfielder has earned the assignment by slashing a robust .352/.380/.727 with nine home runs, 21 RBI and two stolen bases over his last 23 games. Jake Cronenworth has typically hit third since Fernando Tatis (quad) went down and has a day off Thursday, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Merrill receive more opportunities from the middle of the San Diego batting order.
