    • Jack Flaherty tagged for three homers in loss
Jack Flaherty lost to the Angels after allowing five runs in 5 2/3 innings on Thursday.

Advice: Flaherty surrendered three homers, matching his total from his previous six starts combined. He struck out seven and walked just one, but there was no overcoming the longball in this one. It’s the first time since Apr. 24 that he’s allowed more than three runs. • Sale strikes out 11 in hard-luck loss to former team
Chris Sale struck out 11 over seven innings of one-run baseball, but picked up a loss Thursday as the White Sox beat Atlanta 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Advice: Sale was facing his former team in the White Sox, and while he gets credited for the loss, it was a dominant effort for the 35-year-old. The only blemish came when he gave up a solo homer to Luis Robert Jr. in the first, and he allowed just three more hits while missing plenty of bats. It’s the third time Sale has picked up double-digit strikeouts — the 11 are a season high — and he’s now the owner of a 2.79 ERA and 118/17 K/BB over 15 starts. He gets the Giants next. • Jordan Hicks strikes out seven, allows three vs. Cubs
Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff. In his first season with the Giants, Hicks had a 3.36 ERA, 76/33 K/BB and 1.28 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings in his 17 starts. Rotoworld Thursday, 4:51 pm

    • Kyle Harrison will throw a bullpen on Friday
According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Shayna Rubin, Kyle Harrison (ankle) will throw a bullpen on Friday.

Advice: Harrison was placed on the IL on July 16th, so the Giants could choose to activate him without needing a rehab assignment if the bullpen session goes well. We should find out more information later on Friday. Rotoworld Thursday, 11:30 am

    • Throwing bullpen session
Harrison (ankle) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Harrison resumed throwing on flat ground earlier this week and has now been cleared to try things from the bump. It's been more than two weeks since Harrison made a start, so it's likely he'll be asked to go out on a short rehab assignment once he's deemed ready. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:17 am

    • Yields homer in non-save spot
Hader allowed a solo home run and a walk with three strikeouts during Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Rockies.

Advice: Hader stepped into the game for the ninth inning despite not being eligible for the save and gave up his first home run since June 9 to Michael Toglia. After a shaky start to 2024, Hader owns a 2.25 ERA with 30 strikeouts and eight saves over his last 19 appearances. He's also walking batters at his lowest clip since 2019, with 2.4 BB/9 in 2024. • Yields five runs in loss
Gore (6-7) allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out one over five innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Padres.

Advice: Gore struggled against the team that drafted him, as the Padres put up multiple runs in the first and fifth innings. He may have been rattled by the two teams clearing the benches in the first inning after Keibert Ruiz and Jurickson Profar exchanged words -- Gore's next pitch hit Profar on the back foot, and the one after that was crushed by Manny Machado for a two-run homer. The southpaw has lost three of his five starts in June, giving up 18 runs (17 earned) over 26.1 innings. He's now at a 3.81 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 99:28 K:BB through 85 innings across 16 starts on the year. Gore is projected to make his next start at home versus the Mets. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:57 pm
    • MacKenzie Gore gives up five runs, loses to Padres
MacKenzie Gore surrendered five runs in five innings Tuesday in a loss to the Padres.

Advice: Gore was lucky not to be tossed at the beginning of this one, as he hit Jurickson Profar in the back leg with a pitch right after warnings were issued because of some thoroughly unnecessary jawing and a benches-clearing incident. Gore’s pitch, though, didn’t seem to be intentional. It did lead to an ejection anyway, as Padres manager Mike Shildt was ejected for taking issue with Gore not being tossed. Gore was a bit of a mess afterwards, walking three and striking out just one in the loss. Still, it’s probably not anything to worry about. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:13 pm
    • Runs up pitch count in no-decision
Peralta allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings in a no-decision against Texas on Monday.

Advice: Peralta pitched pretty well in the outing, but he could go only five frames as a result of throwing 104 pitches. That's been a theme for the right-hander of late, as he's completed six innings in only one of his past six starts despite allowing three or fewer earned runs in five of those outings. Peralta's 4.03 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the campaign are on pace for his worst marks since 2019, though he's been able to rack up 112 strikeouts (fifth-most in the majors) over 87 innings.
