    • Racks up 11 Ks in Opening Day win
Bieber (1-0) tossed six scoreless innings against Oakland on Thursday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out 11 batters and earning the win.

Advice: He wasn't exactly facing the stiffest competition, but Bieber was absolutely dominant Thursday, recording 18 swinging strikes en route to 11 punchouts. Per Mandy Bell of MLB.com, the double-digit strikeout effort was Bieber's third such performance on Opening Day, tying him for second in major-league history with four other hurlers behind Randy Johnson. Bieber is off to an outstanding start as he looks to bounce back from last year's injury-plagued campaign during which he posted a 3.80 ERA, his worst mark since his rookie 2018 season. • Homers in win
Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double while adding a walk in Pittsburgh's Opening Day 6-5 win over Miami in 12 innings.

Advice: Reynolds had been dealing with a back issue in the days leading up to Opening Day, but started in his customary left field and crushed a 2-1 pitch over the left-center field wall in the third inning to knot the game at two. Reynolds later doubled off Anthony Bender to earn the two-hit effort. Reynolds, an all-star in 2021, looks to be healthy as the Pirates were able to begin the season on a positive note. • Shane Bieber fans 11 in victory over Athletics
Shane Bieber whiffed 11 over six scoreless frames to help the Guardians to an 8-0 rout of the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Bieber scattered four hits while issuing just one free pass to go along with the aforementioned punchouts. It came against one of the worst lineups in baseball, but the former Cy Young candidate looked the part in the Opening Day victory, and it comes after the right-hander looked sensational for the majority of Cactus League play. Bieber will have a chance to take the mound again next week in Seattle against the Mariners. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:35 pm
    • Yankees put Gerrit Cole (elbow) on 60-day IL
Yankees placed RHP Gerrit Cole on the 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: Nothing has changed in terms of Cole’s prognosis as he’s expected to resume throwing at some point in April with the hope of ramping up his throwing progression afterwards. He’ll be sidelined until late May, at the earliest. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:14 pm

    • Mets put Kodai Senga (shoulder) on 15-day IL
Mets placed RHP Kodai Senga on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with a right shoulder strain.

Advice: Senga resumed throwing earlier this week and is expected to be ready to rejoin New York’s starting rotation mix at some point in mid-to-late May, barring any setbacks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:51 pm

    • Spencer Torkelson picks up two hits in win
Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-4 in a victory Thursday over the White Sox.

Advice: Torkelson was the only player for either team that picked up multiple hits. The former first-overall pick got off to a slow start in 2023, but was one of the better options at first base over the second-half of the campaign. It’s never been a question of talent with Torkelson, and based on what he’s shown as of late, he’s starting to apply that talent and then some. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:48 pm
    • Marlins place Eury Pérez (elbow) on 15-day IL
Marlins placed RHP Eury Pérez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: Pérez was able to resume throwing last weekend without any issues after additional testing on his right elbow didn’t reveal any structural damage. The dynamic 20-year-old righty is still pretty far off from returning to Miami’s starting rotation, but he’s managed to avoid a worst-case scenario outcome in this situation. • Stumbles early
Cortes didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over five innings in a 5-4 win over Houston. He struck out five.

Advice: The Astros got to Cortes early Thursday, scoring three runs in the opening inning before Jake Meyers led off the second with a solo homer. While it looked like the game could get out of hand, Cortes recovered to set down 12 of the final 13 batters he faced, ultimately winding up with a no-decision, as the Yankees scored five unanswered runs in a comeback win. New York is perhaps counting on a bounce-back campaign from Cortes after he made just 12 starts last year, going 5-2 with a 4.97 ERA. The left-hander is tentatively lined up for a road matchup with the Diamondbacks in his next outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:05 pm
    • Nestor Cortes overcomes rocky start in opener
Nestor Cortes surrendered four runs over five innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Astros.

Advice: Cortes got into trouble early on in this one, surrendering run-scoring singles to Chas McCormick and Yainer Diaz as part of a three-run opening frame. He managed to settle in afterwards, effectively saving New York’s bullpen from having to soak up a ton of innings in the process, and managed to get through five frames. He finished with five strikeouts and only issued a pair of walks. He’ll face the Diamondbacks on Tuesday out in Arizona in his next outing. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:41 pm
