      Advice: Rodriguez never made a plate appearance Saturday, and it's not immediately apparent why he had to come out of the game, but the Blue Jays should offer some more clarity soon.       Julio Rodriguez was removed from Saturday’s ballgame against the Blue Jays in the first inning due to an apparent injury.

      Advice: No word yet on what exactly occurred, but Rodriguez was pinch-hit for by Ty France the first time that he strolled to the plate in the home half of the first inning.     • Gerrit Cole strikes out eight in no-decision Saturday
      Gerrit Cole allowed four runs with eight strikeouts across 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday.

      Advice: Cole worked through two scoreless innings, including a base-loaded jam in the second that he escaped with a strikeout. A double, walk, and three base hits would bring three runs in to score for Boston in the third. Cole struck out the side in the fourth inning before Rafael Devers took him deep for a solo shot in the fifth. That would be it for Cole at 90 pitches. He struck out a season-high eight batters. Through four starts, the 33-year-old right-hander holds a 6.75 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and a 19/8 K/BB ratio across 17 1/3 innings. He’ll take on the Orioles in Baltimore on Friday.       Naylor went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Giants.

      Advice: Naylor had some dry stretches in June, but he's turned it around by going 9-for-24 (.375) with six RBI over his last six games. The first baseman set a career high with his 21st homer of the year. He's added 64 RBI, 50 runs scored, three stolen bases, 16 doubles and a .246/.323/.505 slash line over 82 contests.       Merrill went 1-for-4 with a triple and three RBI in a 10-8 win against Arizona on Friday.

      Advice: Merrill knocked in San Diego's first run on a groundout in the second inning and added a two-run triple in the fourth. The outfielder also put an end to a streak of three games in which he had struck out multiple times. Despite that recent stretch, punchouts haven't been a problem for Merrill in the majors -- he has a very tolerable 17.0 percent strikeout rate through 323 plate appearances.       Houck came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning win over the Yankees, giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits and four walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out one.

      Advice: The right-hander was looking sharp early, but a 38-minute rain delay in the middle of the third inning caused Houck to lose his focus and he fell apart completely in the fourth. He's winless in his last four starts, stumbling to a 5.40 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB through 20 innings over that stretch, but he figures to bounce back in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against Oakland.       Steer went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers.

    • Alex Bregman hits three-run homer in Astros’ win
      Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and two walks Friday as the Astros edged the Twins 13-12.

      Advice: Bregman’s seemingly meaningless homer made it a 13-5 game in the ninth before the Twins almost came all of the way back in the bottom of the inning.       Smith went 3-for-3 with three solo home runs, two walks and four total runs scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers.

      Advice: Smith hit just two homers in June, so he's already off to a fantastic start in July. The catcher went to the opposite field for his first-inning blast before pulling his solo shots in the third and seventh innings.
