• Christian Encarnacion-Strand day-to-day with illness
Christian Encarnacion-Strand is day-to-day due to illness.

Advice: Encarnacion-Strand wasn’t feeling well, which led to him sitting out Wednesday’s series finale against the Mariners. The 24-year-old slugger figures to be ready to return to Cincinnati’s lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Angels. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago
  • Back from IL
The Cubs activated Wisdom (back) from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Wisdom went to the injured list just before Opening Day and was able to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on April 6. During the assignment, the 32-year-old appeared in nine games and went 11-for-27 with three home runs across 36 plate appearances. Miles Mastrobuoni was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago

  • Cubs activate Patrick Wisdom for Friday return
Cubs activated INF Patrick Wisdom from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Wisdom rejoins Chicago’s crowded infield mix ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Marlins after missing the first three weeks of the season recovering from a back strain that he suffered during spring training. He figures to split time at the hot corner with Christopher Morel since Michael Busch has gotten off to such a strong start over at first base. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Brandon Drury (hamstring) pinch-hits on Thursday
Brandon Drury (hamstring) grounded out as a pinch-hitter on Thursday in the Angels’ loss to the Rays.

Advice: Drury was held out of the lineup for the third consecutive contest due to ongoing left hamstring tightness, but was able to come off the bench in the ninth inning of this one. The 31-year-old infielder remains day-to-day for now and should be a full-go in a couple days, if not sooner. Rotoworld Today, 1:51 pm

  • Stands out in Wednesday's win
Nevin went 3-for-4 with an RBI single, a double and a run in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Advice: Nevin drew the start in right field and delivered once again, pushing his average to .303 across 37 plate appearances. Nevin has now reached safely in five consecutive games, but Wednesday's two-bagger was his first extra-base hit of the campaign. Rotowire.com Today, 11:54 am

  • Smacks homer Wednesday
Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 4-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Renfroe went 0-for-3 with one RBI in the nightcap as well. The veteran outfielder is still holding onto a starting role in right field, but he's struggling at the plate in 2024. Renfroe is batting .176 with two homers, eight RBI, six runs scored and two doubles over 56 plate appearances. Nelson Velazquez has occasionally moved from designated hitter to right when Renfroe rests, and Adam Frazier could be an option there as well once Michael Massey (back) is activated from the injured list. • Hits go-ahead homer in Game 1
Perez (groin) went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 4-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Perez returned from a Grade 1 left groin strain Wednesday and delivered the key hit in the Royals' matinee win. He also went 0-for-2 with two walks in the nightcap while serving as the designated hitter. He appears good to go moving forward after the injury scare. The veteran catcher is off to a hot start with five homers, 17 RBI, nine runs scored and two doubles while slashing .324/.370/.574 over 18 contests this season. Rotowire.com Today, 10:27 am
  • Goes deep Wednesday
Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Twins.

Advice: Santander has gone 3-for-18 over his last five contests. That's not a great stretch, but so far, he's in little danger of losing playing time as manager Brandon Hyde gets creative to keep Colton Cowser in the lineup. Santander is batting .203 with four homers, 15 RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and no stolen bases through 74 plate appearances as the Orioles' primary right fielder. Rotowire.com Today, 10:17 am
  • May not return this weekend
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Lowe will need "about 30 [at-bats], could be more" during his minor-league rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day injured list, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: After kicking off his rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco last Friday, Lowe looked as though he could be ready to rejoin the Rangers by the weekend. However, Bochy's comments suggest that the Rangers are planning for Lowe to have a more extended stay in the minors to get his timing back at the plate before reinstalling him as their everyday first baseman. Lowe has since shifted his assignment to Triple-A Round Rock and has gotten in 16 at-bats over five total minor-league games, recording just one hit (a home run) while drawing two walks. If Bochy sticks to his estimate of Lowe needing about 30 at-bats before being activated, the 28-year-old seems poised to remain with Round Rock through the weekend before rejoining the Rangers for the start of their homestand next Tuesday.
