• Fields grounders Tuesday
Gonzalez (wrist) fielded grounders Tuesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Gonzalez is working his way back from a left wrist sprain, so being able to take grounders with his injured hand would appear to be a good sign. He's eligible to return Sunday and the hope is that he could be back by then or shortly after. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

  • Astros recall Forrest Whitley to bolster pitching staff
Astros recalled RHP Forrest Whitley from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: The move is now official. Whitley was universally-regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball just a few years ago, but injuries and ineffectiveness have relegated him to afterthought status for fantasy managers. The 26-year-old righty will operate in a multi-inning relief role for Houston’s bullpen as they attempt to deal with their current pitching crisis. He’s unlikely to wind up making an impact for fantasy purposes, but it’s notable that he’s finally arrived in the big leagues after all these years. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago
  • Cleared for rehab assignment
Grandal (foot) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Grandal has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot since early March but is finally ready to test things out in a game setting. Henry Davis has struggled in the early going, so the Pirates seem likely to stick with their original plan of sharing catching duties between Davis and Grandal once the latter is ready. • Throws off slope of mound
Urquidy (forearm) threw off the front slope of the mound Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It's a big step as Urquidy continues to work his way back from a right forearm strain. He will progress to facing hitters and eventually go out on a rehab assignment, although it's not clear yet when that might happen. A Houston rotation that's been hit hard by injury could use Urquidy, but it won't rush the right-hander. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Braves summon David Fletcher to active roster
Braves selected the contract of INF David Fletcher from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Advice: Fletcher has been added to Atlanta’s infield mix with fantasy superstar Ozzie Albies landing on the 10-day injured list with a fractured toe. The 29-year-old infielder slashed .247/.302/.326 across 97 plate appearances with the Angels last season and was traded to the Braves in December. He won’t be able to replace Albies in fantasy lineups but he’ll be in a lineup filled with some of the best talent in baseball. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Joining big-league club
Atlanta selected Fletcher's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

Advice: The 29-year-old was unable to secure a place on Atlanta's Opening Day roster but will join the big club with Ozzie Albies headed to the injured list with a toe fracture. Fletcher could fill the small side of a platoon at second base with Luis Guillorme while Albies is sidelined. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

  • José Urquidy (forearm) throws bullpen on Tuesday
José Urquidy (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Advice: It’s a bit unclear how much time Urquidy will require to ramp up fully after being shut down for nearly a month due to right forearm inflammation, but he’s likely at least a few weeks away from being ready to assist Houston’s injury-plagued starting rotation. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

  • Josh Lowe starting rehab assignment on Thursday
Josh Lowe (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Lowe landed on the shelf back in mid-March with a right oblique strain and isn’t expected to need too much time at Triple-A Durham after getting into a pair of rehab contests this week already for Tampa Bay’s Rookie-Level Florida Complex League affiliate. The 26-year-old power/speed combo outfielder should be ready to return at some point later this week, if not sooner. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • Increasing throwing distance
Cole (elbow) is expected to throw from up to 75 feet Tuesday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Cole has been playing catch for about a week, throwing from 60 feet on flat ground. He didn't throw Monday but is slated to resume play catch Tuesday, moving out an additional 15 feet. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner appears to be making steady progress in his recovery from nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. He's eligible to come off the 60-day IL in late May.
