    • Huston Street earned his 10th save of the year Saturday as the Padres beat the Nationals 2-1.
Advice: He struck out a batter but walked two in the scoreless frame. Street was one day removed from being the losing pitcher after giving up a game-winning home run to Chad Tracy. Street is 0-3, going 10-for-11 in save conversions and posting a 4.42 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.

    • Huston Street earned his ninth save of the year Tuesday as the Padres beat the Orioles 3-2.
Advice: The Padres were trailing 2-1 heading into the top of the ninth inning but managed a rare two-run rally against Orioles closer Jim Johnson. Street then shut the O's down in the bottom of the ninth. He owns a weak 4.60 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 15 2/3 innings this season but still carries very good job security.

    • Tyler Chatwood enjoyed a successful return to the majors Saturday night, holding the Giants to one run over 5 1/3 innings.
Advice: Chatwood was making a spot start that allowed Colorado to give Juan Nicasio an extra day of rest. In his first start since April 29, Chatwood struck out four, walked four and gave up seven hits. Chatwood has a 2.55 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 12 strikeouts over three starts in the majors. He may just have forced his way into another turn in Colorado's rotation.

    • Rockies recalled RHP Tyler Chatwood from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Advice: Chatwood will make a spot start on Saturday night against the Giants. He has posted decent numbers this year at the Triple-A level but is not a great fantasy bet.

    • Tyler Chatwood will be recalled from Triple-A Colorado to start against the Giants on Saturday.
Advice: Originally, Chatwood was expected to be recalled to start on Sunday in place of the injured Jeff Francis. Instead, the Rockies have opted to give Juan Nicasio an extra day of rest and use Chatwood on Saturday. Chatwood has fared decently in his first two starts with the Rockies this season, and has posted a 3.14 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings at Triple-A. He could be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.

    • Tyler Chatwood is expected to be recalled to start Sunday against the Giants in place of the injured Jeff Francis (groin).
Advice: Chatwood tossed six shutout innings in his second start with the Rockies late last month, so it's not a surprise that he's getting the call. He's also had a great year at Triple-A Colorado Springs, posting a 3.14 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings. The righty could stick around for at least a couple starts.

    • Eric Stults held the Nationals to one run over eight innings to pick up a win Saturday and move to 4-3 on the season.
Advice: Stults has been great over his last four starts, lowering his ERA from 5.67 to 4.05. On Saturday, he struck out five, walked two and scattered four hits. Stults gets the Diamondbacks on Friday night.

    • Grant Balfour converted his eighth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning in Saturday's win over the Royals.
Advice: Balfour walked a batter but was otherwise unburdened. He entered this weekend with six saves but has picked up a pair in consecutive 2-1 wins against the Royals. The typically reliable Balfour is eight-for-eight in save conversions and holds a 1.56 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.

    • Tommy Milone earned his first win since April 15 by pinning the Royals to one run over six innings Saturday.
Advice: He scattered five hits, striking out four and walking three. Milone won his first three starts and lost his next five. It wasn't all his fault -- Oakland's offense failed to show up for any of those games, averaging a little over a run per nine innings. Milone carries a 3.47 ERA and 1.19 WHIP into a tasty matchup against the Astros next week.

    • Ervin Santana notched another quality start on Saturday but took the loss in Kansas City's 2-1 setback in Oakland.
Advice: Santana spun seven innings of two-run ball, striking out five and allowing four hits and three walks. He didn't surrender a home run, which has been perhaps the biggest reason he's turned around his career in Kansas City. After leading the league in long-balls allowed in 2012 with 39, Santana has given up just six thus far; and three of those were in his season debut. The resurgent right-hander is 3-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over eight starts.

    • Wilton Lopez tossed 1 1/3 perfect relief innings in Saturday's 10-2 drubbing of the Giants.
Advice: Lopez held a 12.46 ERA on April 12 and has been working since to minimize the toll his early-season woes wrought on his earned run average. He finished his first month in Colorado with a 6.17 ERA, but has been the reliever the Rockies believed they were acquiring over the winter since, posting a 2.08 ERA over 8 2/3 innings. Interestingly, Lopez had a superb 8/0 K/BB rate during his awful April and has notched a sub-mediocre 3/3 K/BB rate in May.

    • Jordan Zimmermann took a tough-luck loss Saturday, giving up two runs -- one earned -- over eight innings against the Padres.
Advice: Zimmermann was as good as anticipated in PETCO, striking out six, walking none and scattering seven hits. One of the most underrated pitchers in the majors, Zimmermann is 7-2 with a 1.62 ERA and 45/9 K/BB rate in nine starts over 66 2/3 innings.

  • Tue, May 14
    • Jordan Zimmermann spun 7 2/3 innings of two-run ball in the Nationals' victory over the Dodgers on Monday.
Advice: He gave up nine hits but no walks, striking out five. A second-round pick of the Nats in 2007, Zimmerman owns a sparkling 7-1 record and 1.69 ERA. The must-start mixed leaguer will put both on the line Saturday in San Diego. Although a level of regression is certain going forward, we like his chances to continue dominating this weekend.

    • Tim Lincecum's trip to Coors Field went sour Saturday night, as he allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings in a 10-2 loss.
Advice: Lincecum struck out four, walked two and surrendered a two-run homer to Wilin Rosario. The veteran has been all over the place this season, making him impossible to trust in fantasy. He's allowed no runs in three of his nine starts, but four or more in five of them. The inconsistency bears out in his numbers: Lincecum is 3-3 with a 4.70 ERA and 1.42 WHIP.

    • Steve Cishek worked a perfect ninth inning in a non-save situation against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Advice: Cishek took the loss against the Reds his last time out, so it was good to see him back and pitching well. The Marlins don't have any better options and Cishek is actually pretty good for the most part, so there's little doubt he will continue to be the closer going forward.
      (Rotoworld.com)
  • Thu, May 16
    • Steve Cishek took his fourth loss after giving up three runs in 1 2/3 innings against the Reds on Thursday.
Advice: Cishek pitched a scoreless ninth with the Marlins down 2-1 and then was asked to stay in to pitch the 10th after the Marlins tied it. It's the second time this year he's been asked to get more than three outs, and both times he's taken losses. Cishek had been pitching better of late, so he should be safe in the closer's role. He's 5-for-6 in his save chances this year, blowing only his first opportunity on April 7.

    • Jorge De La Rosa was tagged for five runs in five innings Friday in a win over the Giants.
Advice: De La Rosa gave up nine hits and one walk and only registered one strikeout. It was quite a contrast for the southpaw, as he entered Friday's outing with a 14-inning scoreless streak and 12 scoreless frames at Coors Field this season. Still, the Rockies' offense powered him to the victory. De La Rosa is 5-3 with a 3.58 ERA through nine starts this season, but he needs more strikeouts to be interesting again in fantasy leagues.

Advice: Arrieta was scheduled to start for the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate, but will instead be called up as a reliever for Saturday's game. It's possible Arrieta could make a spot start next week for Freddy Garca or Miguel Gonzalez. The 27-year-old has a 6.63 ERA over 12 innings (four starts) at the major league level this season.

    • Reds optioned LHP Tony Cingrani to Triple-A Louisville.
Advice: The Reds needed to clear a rotation spot with Johnny Cueto returning from the disabled list Monday, so Cingrani was officially sent down. He was mostly excellent over his first six major league starts, posting a 3.27 ERA, nine walks and 41 strikeouts in 33 innings. Neftali Soto has been called up to replace Cingrani on the active roster, and Mike Leake will remain Cincinnati's fifth starter.
      (Rotoworld.com)
  • Fri, May 17
    • Tony Cingrani yielded three runs in five innings Friday in a no-decision against the Phillies.
Advice: Following his recent bout of shoulder soreness, Cingrani needed 100 pitches to complete the five frames. After posting a 1.50 ERA over his first three starts in the majors, the southpaw has allowed nine runs in 15 innings over his last three starts and has served up five homers in the process. We still like Cingrani for the long-term, but he could be headed back to the minors next week when Johnny Cueto (lat) returns from the disabled list.
      (Rotoworld.com)
  • Tue, May 14
    • Tony Cingrani's next start has been pushed back due to a sore pitching shoulder.
Advice: The soreness is said to be minor, but with Monday's off day, the Reds want to play it safe. It's possible they could skip over his turn entirely, depending on how he recovers. This certainly won't help Cingrani's case to remain in the rotation after Johnny Cueto returns.

Advice: Good news. Johnson hasn't pitched since April 21 due to right triceps inflammation, but he hasn't had any issues during his throwing program. The Blue Jays have yet to announce where he'll pitch initially and it's unclear how many starts he'll need before he's activated. Still, he's making progress.

Advice: Johnson is expected to throw one more long-toss session before getting back on a mound. Advice: Lynn struggled with his command, throwing only 56 of his 89 pitches for strikes while yielding eight hits and two walks. • Matt Garza (lat) will return from the disabled list to start Tuesday's game against the Pirates.
Advice: Garza threw six scoreless innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Iowa earlier this week, so he shouldn't be on a strict pitch count in his season debut and will provide an immediate upgrade to the Cubs' rotation. His return means Carlos Villanueva will be relegated to a bullpen role.

    • The Cubs will wait to see how Matt Garza (lat) feels and how his bullpen session goes Saturday before they make a decision about activating him.
Advice: Garza declared himself ready to rejoin the Cubs' rotation after six scoreless innings during Thursday's rehab start. It's probably just a formality at this point before the team announces that he'll rejoin the rotation next week. Carlos Villanueva is the likeliest candidate to be demoted to the bullpen.
